The return of Guitar Hero and Rock Band made a lot of fans nostalgic and remember a simpler time. One with big plastic accessories and cool soundtracks that they gathered with their friends to play. However, Guitar Hero Live was something that was very different from previous iterations of the franchise, and it was to set itself apart from the competition of Rock Band 4.
Now it looks like the time has come for Guitar Hero Live to be put out to pasture, as it has been announced that the online portion (GHTV) will be shutting down later this year.
Many video game franchises came and went during the 2010s, meeting ends ranging from sudden and surprising to drawn out and painful. Of them, these are 10 classic video game franchises that crumbled in the 2010s.
Metal gear was probably the worst way to end a franchise that was at one time the best out there, sad how that went down. Call of duty was good and it’s crapping out hard if u ask me. Uncharted ended right
Losing Dead Space and Silent Hill really sucks. Good horror games are hard to come by
I liked Killzone 2 and 3. KZ2 amazed me with the graphics. KZ3 refined the gameplay mechanics, although a small minority of fans thought the movement wasn't heavy enough like KZ2. I thought it was perfect
Some games force online-only measures onto people. It sucks! Especially when some titles, like these seven, 100% didn't need it.
With Rock Band 4 still chugging along and the actual teaching tool known as Rocksmith teaching guitar in a world where that music is a dying breed, there may not be another renaissance for the music gaming genre. Guitar Hero Live will likely be the last Guitar Hero game ever released.
This is a real shame but of course not entirely unexpected. It was one of those things where we knew it would happen, and it was only a matter of when.
I'm glad they're giving ample notice. I use Guitar Hero Live from time to time. It's such a fun game with plenty of great songs and I love the new controller layout. The issue is that most of my time was spent on this online portion... :( Offline-only would be... not so great. The soundtrack on the disc is okay but I couldn't see myself playing it more than a couple times, unlike Guitar Hero III and Rock Band 2 where I could play all those songs literally hundreds of times. Though "Bangarang" by Skrillex is one I've played a lot!
I will lament the shuttering of this service. At least this makes sense, unlike the shuttering of Miiverse. UGH. Sorry, I won't get on that tangent on here.
Game was trash. Wish they would just remaster the original trilogy in a bundle set...
I think the controls just didn't appeal like the previous game did the new guitar tried to make it more realistic but lost the fun feeling
Real shame the new guitar was so good but the online portion of this game was so slimy you had to buy tokens to play the songs u wanted or u could play the tv mode that just cycled through random songs
