May charts: God of War remains at No.1, Nintendo continues to go from strength to strength

I knew Detroit or demon souls remaster would drop god of war from the number one spot but damn to jump back up to the number one spot again in May is crazy for a god of war game. Congratulations again Cory Barlog and SSM. Well deserved and good to see Detroit still doing well at number 5 especially for the type of game it is.

It would be impressive if it was a good game. But the fact that it's selling so well even though it's not shouldn't be something to be impressed by. That just shows how desperate people are for any Xbox exclusives, good or bad.

Like the other side doesn't move the goalpost? The excuse for every Xbox "exclusive" that under performs is that "Microsoft no longer cares about sales, it's all about engagement".

Is SoD2 even selling well? Microsoft literally said the same thing about SoT. They said the same "2 million players" stat and said it was breaking multiple sales records. But in reality it sold 202k its first week. I'm interested to see if SoD2 can even outsell the 2 million sales of the original. Instead of vague engagement numbers it'd be nice to see some sales figures.

Traditional reviews are honestly becoming less and less relevant. People nowadays will watch gameplay on Twitch and YouTube and they'll rather listen to likeminded internet personalities than some random guy at IGN or Gamespot who barely plays games.

Seeing such an epic single player experience reap the financial rewards it deserves just makes me happy.
It’s pretty hard for me not to be a Sony fanboy when they just keep releasing the types of games I want to play, even when they generally go against market trends.
They don’t feel the need to cater to the sheep playing Battle Royale and online shooter type games.

People are just playing what they enjoy. If they didn't get actual enjoyment out of it they wouldn't be wasting their time, they would doing, or playing something else. They aren't playing them because that's what the crowd is playing. Hell, God of War is a perfect example. Clearly you don't deem people that play that to be sheep, even though it's quite obvious from the sales numbers that a very large amount of people are playing it.

Just because a large amount of people like certain games, enough people in fact that a lot of developers are trying to get their own version of the genre on the market, doesn't make them "sheep" anymore than the people that play the games YOU enjoy.

LOL. I have all the consoles, and I love God of War. To me, this just isn't any news. God of War games have always sold well and this one looks to be possibly the best in the series.

I don't care about the competition. The only two games that are remotely near God of War are Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. The Bayonetta series is really good and competes well but DMC really needs to improve to get to God of War quality. No denying God of War here. I just look at what has come out lately, and how long we have been since a good hack n slash on consoles and it is not at all surprising that the game is on top of the charts for sales.

Who cares? This is not a thread on Xbox, and my comment was not at all XB related.

My comments are saying, "How the heck is this news?". Frankly anyone thinking that one of the exclusive games like God of War which defines PS consoles just as much as Uncharted and GT would not lead sales for a significant time knows absolutely nothing about sales of games. Even ig God of War was in the low 80's it would be selling great.

Again, kudos to Sony for the game, I can't wait to play it soon. Will wait for it to go on sale around Xmas and pick it up! I love God of War games.

I think GOW has it on lock. Even multiplatform, Spider-man’s never sold like GOW 2018. Superhero movies are gold right now, but the videogames have been more miss than hit.

Rocksteady’s Arkhams, that’s the measuring stick for Insomniac’s Spidey. But they’ll need more than Negative man. Conroy and Hamil were a huge asset that Spidey ‘18 doesn’t have. Yet.

Marvel has never been as big as they are today, and no Spider Man game has ever had their backing. Combine Marvel’s huge presence in film and the fact that they’re going to be marketing this game, it’s a pretty safe bet that the game will be a massive seller. Let’s not forget that the gameplay video on Marvel’s channel alone has 32 million views. That’s no small number. If it can hold up on the review front, it will for sure be a massive hit on the sales front,

Also, I think it’s pretty silly to assume that Mr Negative will be the only villain, just because he’s the only one we’ve seen. I have zero doubts that there will be some characters there to surprise us.

I know they’ll have other villains. I’ve seen Oscorp and Kingpin namedropped. But from a marketing perspective, I can only comment on what I’ve seen. Not what I hope.

The buzz is there. More than any of its predecessors, no doubt. But topping GOW sales is next level stuff that will require next level effort.

First match Arkham’s antagonists, show me a NYC I haven’t played before. Then you’re in the hunt. I expect quality things from insomniac, but I don’t wanna put pressure on them to sell like a Spartan first time out.

To me it's just amazing that Switch software sales overtook Xbox software sales in May in the UK, which has traditionally been one of Nintendo's weakest markets, and one of Xbox's strongest.

That made me sit up and take notice as well. I think it's fair to say that MS strategy this gen has not been as successful as they had hoped. I don't know what they need to do to turn it around this gen. Unfortunately for them they still don't have the studios to take them into next gen. If they rely primarily on third party going into next gen, I fear they will make the same mistake again. Compare that with Sony who are already getting their first party studios primed, so they can come out the gate swinging.
