Why You Should Play Mass Effect: Andromeda From Your Backlog

BacklogCritic: "Mass Effect: Andromeda was an unfairly criticized game at it’s release- a lot of people saw the awkward animations and jumped at the chance to rip into it. Hardly anyone talked about the good points, and there are a lot of them, especially now the game has been patched. If Andromeda is still in your backlog, it truly does deserve a second chance."

Its not April 1st anymore

porkChop2190d ago

The game was actually well worth playing, despite a bunch of issues.

SCW19822190d ago

Played the first 10 hours, that was enough of a slap in the face for me.

@scw

Yeah I managed to last about 2-3 hours before I turned it off and haven't touched it since, glad I got it on sale for like 5$

porkChop2190d ago

This same website put out an article just 2 months ago with the title, "Why You Should Not Play Mass Effect: Andromeda From Your Backlog. I guess these guys like to double dip just for the sake of having content.

Eonjay2190d ago

It like a Russia troll farm: Just play both sides of every issue and watch the world burn.

hardmankensington2190d ago

It's almost as if two different people can't have different opinions.

porkChop2190d ago

I never said they couldn't. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, these things are usually done in a single head-to-head article written by one or more persons.

techsquisite2190d ago

I see you, author. Just picked it up for $9.90 from this weeks Deals with Gold. Looking forward to giving it a go.

Lighter92190d ago

@pork

They need the clicks.

Chaosdreams2190d ago

There's enjoyment to be had in Andromeda, albeit with flaws. I'm sure if the series wasn't iced, we'd have grown to love the companions as we did in the trilogy before it.

rainslacker2189d ago

I dunno about that. Ryder was OK, but outside of Cora, none of them were interesting in the least.

They really dropped the ball in terms of character relationships, as the interpersonal interaction was pretty lame.

Chaosdreams2189d ago

Oh don't get me wrong, it sure wasn't perfect. I personally disliked the companions and only started to enjoy their actual presence in the later portions of the game. But I did sense something there that could've been/grown if it was given the chance.

rainslacker2188d ago

I ended up using Drack and Jaal the most. Cora was good in actual combat though. The interaction with Drack was worth the play through IMO, because he had some of the best lines in the game. I probably should have mentioned he had a pretty good story too, just the back drop for his story was lame. Jaal was cool, but again, the backdrop for his story was not very well done, and just seemed to suddenly exist to have some antagonism in the galaxy where the game took place.

Unfortunately, they didn't go enough into the antagonist and their motivations. Unlike Saren where he was the antagonist to introduce something more grand, the guy in ME:A just seemed to exist so you had someone to shoot at. Was a shame, because when they first showed him, he looked like he was sad at not being able to do what Ryder could, and I thought maybe they'd develop that into something more deep than just some crazy guy hell-bent on galactic domination.

UCForce2190d ago

I finished the game last year. It was good, but it’s not the best really. Most people agree that MEA is the weakest of Mass Effect series. And my god ! EA just made huge mistake for not letting Bioware supporting the game In long run. People were looking MEA Single Player DLC but cancelled by EA.

GamesMaster19822190d ago

I actually quite enjoyed this game, yes the story just left some things unfinished and there was bugs here and there ( name a game that has never had any ) which most have been patched out, loading was quite long too and while not as good as Shepards story it did improve on some thing's. The nomad driving was 1 million times better, the jetpacks made for some good fight's and movement. I think these days people just bitch and moan for the sake of it. I found this game to be like Dragon Age Inquesition ( of which i also enjoyed ) but in space. End of the day for the price this is now you can do a hell of a lot worse.

DerekTweed2189d ago

I came back to it recently after playing a little at launch. I played it on the X, although it doesn't have any enhancements, it did seem like the load times were much shorter than i remembered.

On the subject of bugs: the only thing I noticed was that after a conversation dialogue, cut-scene or nor, a team member would just levitate upwards through the roof. They appeared again shortly after but otherwise there I had no other bugs.

I missed the Drive cores in the vaults so I still have that task in my list and can never clear it. 99% complete for ever.

The launch games were all right, but look at how Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA compared to their re-releases.

Mass Effect Companions, Ranked from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "BioWare's Mass Effect franchise took gamers on a fascinating universal sci-fi journey that will never be forgotten. While fighting against the ever-looming threat of the Reapers was central to Mass Effect's storyline, what made the series so iconic was its vast and diverse cast of characters.

Not only do these companions accompany Commander Shepard as you make your way through hell and back, but, throughout your journey, you also get to learn who these characters were and are and what they think about what it is that you are doing. Some will even fall in love with you, and others will even become your enemy based on your decision."

sourOG1097d ago

When I looked at the list I thought they were saying Garrus was the worst lol. And tali being so far down the list was fighting words for me. But the numbered list is just the order they are shown so you are forgiven.

CYALTR1096d ago

I think they listed them from worst to best. Also keep in mind that this includes Andromeda characters that aren't part of the remastered trilogy. Interesting refresh on the characters though.

sourOG1096d ago

They did but I didn’t realize it until I started reading. That’s just the order they are shown.

Knightofelemia1097d ago (Edited 1097d ago )

I couldn't stand Miranda I could never like her as a character and I always skipped Jacob and James. I always liked Grunt, Jack, Legion, Tali, Garrus, Samara, Liara, Wrex, Edi, Zaeed, Kasumi I always use these characters. Using Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man just fits the character like using Keith David as Admiral Anderson was another good choice always feels like Goliath from Gargoyles is yelling at you which I like.

Rebel_Scum1096d ago

Kinda weird having a question mark at the end of that sentence?

Soy1096d ago

Garrus is best space bro.

Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021

Zahi AR. from Link Cable Gaming writes “Welcome back Link Cable Gaming fans, with me in andromeda. Specifically, Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021. With the recent announcement of Anthem shutting down its future plans, I wanted to look at another recent BioWare game. My switch to a PlayStation 5 destroyed my save file right while I was at the end. So, I decided to do a fresh start on the new console to see just how well (or not) it’s been since launch. How has the new generation of hardware treated the game that fell from grace? Should you play Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021? Let’s find out.”

Such a good game! It got a 4K X1X upgrade and it looks fantastic! Also like the story! Was playing it again before Series X dropped. Going to download it for the Series X, as soon as I have more room on my HD. Playing too many other games right now.

Instant resume is AMAZING! I can Switch between 5 games in seconds. Like 10 to 15 at the most! No closing a game and opening another one! Thank you Microsoft!

giovonni1162d ago

It’s was decent to me. I didn’t feel the magic I felt when I played two or even three. I don’t know. It was repetitive, and the worlds felt bland.

jeromeface1162d ago

There's a reason it reviewed so poorly in the first place... these reasons among others.

anast1162d ago

I had a lot of fun with this game, but I haven't played 2 or 3 yet.

giovonni1162d ago

2 was wonderful, three was just as good as two the ending though 🤦🏾‍♂️

Wintersun6161161d ago

I finally gave it a go last autumn and was amazed by how bad a game can be. And believe me my expectations were low. After 10ish hours I just had to give up.

giovonni1161d ago

I powered through it, myself. It was just repetitive, and the Land Rover Exploration wasn’t interesting at all. The story also we mahhhhhhh.
