IGN: Wii's Next Zelda Game

Miyamoto says the franchise needs some big new ideas. What might the successor to Twilight Princess play and look like?

That quote right there summed up my feeling about that. I don't mind a deeper story, but please no voice work. Link mustn't talk!

I agree, I'm just more concerned about Link! He is the silent hero, he barely talks period even with the text boxes. Voice acting could hurt, but when it comes to Link yes.

Voice acting brings you deeper into a story. The tone of someones voice change make dialogue more deep and gives it life and art. I will agree making Link a silent hero makes sense it fits his character but the NPCs need to have some kind of sound coming out of their mouth that makes them have emotion to it doesnt even have to be English it could be some made up language doesnt matter all that does matter is feeling like your actually interacting with real people which helps you become more connected to the story.

I want an older (young 30s?) Link that has married and has kids. At some point he might have to make the decision of Zelda or his family.

It can either be an original Link or a sequel to a child link.

I want Hyrule to be near destroyed, only to have Link rise out of the darkness.

I want the game to be difficult, complex and long. Not just for the sake of being these 3 I want it to mean something.

Final Fantasy went from no voice acting, to bad voice acting.

Final Fantasy XII had very good voice acting. I'd go so far as saying, the best voice acting I've heard in a video game.

well id bet it would feel weird to be if there was voice acting in a zelda game but at the same time because i played zelda games soo long i would wonder what kind of feeling id get from it

i mean he should talk but maybe only to the point where it feels right like for example if zelda falls off a cliff or something link would say ZELLLLLLLLDAAAAAA something like that would be okay and occasion talks during the game when its nessisary but when talking to town folks or something or at a shop they can cut the voice acting thats not needed in places like that.

Yeah 3D Zelda games are just as dope as the 2D versions.

Sonic on the other hand is just pure trash. I would recommend someone buy a sega genesis, and the the old sonic games(or the old school collection for PS2) before buying the 3D games.

I liked the original Sonic Adventure though. After that, things got gay...very gay.

I think the formula for Zelda is near perfect. I would imagine Nintendo having trouble with improving games that are almost perfect. My advice would be to increase the difficulty some, add motion plus, add most importantly make a more epic and mature story. Twilight Princess was in the right direction, but go further with it (Push that T rating to the limits). I think we need to see more characters involved in the Zelda universe. Make somebody worse than Ganondorf (lol I started think about the hands from SSBB). Have Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf join forces to take down a new villain.

I think gameplay and the story is the most important thing about a Zelda game. So if Nintendo can work on those 2 things then we'll have another great Zelda game.

to be honest if they do it right with voice acting, it could be okay. The reading of text can very well be time consuming. I feel actually hearing the voice acting would make the story more engaging/entertaining... and would help the game actually progress faster. But if they truely can't master each voice perfectly... they need to just settle with the text. I've absolutely loved/adored the Zelda series since the NES days as a kid (gold cartridge anyone? ha ha). If they can't master it, they shouldn't touch it, end of story. As far as gameplay, I have no doubt in my mind and feel confident that they could deliever yet another great gameplay expierence to the series!

It's much quicker to just read it over waiting on them to speak it. Every game I have ever had that had text with voice I was done reading before they were done speaking. I prefer no voices for that reason.

Maybe you're forgetting that the hero always falls in love with the princess he's saving... Link wouldn't have a family and have to choose between them and Zelda, because he loves Zelda. Now, maybe Zelda and Link could be married and then Ganon comes in and kidnaps Zelda. That would be more accurate.

I think voice acting would bring it up that extra level the story needs. As long as Link stays silent. I'm just worried about them making the motion controls to realistic. I play Zelda for hours at time. If they make too many things 1:1, I could get worn out.

Amazing article! =D Totally agree on everything, I don't really want voice acting, it could be done though, as in, everyone talks, but Link doesn't. Still, I don't think it's necessary to refresh the franchise. Zelda: TP was a bit of a disappointment to me, don't get me wrong, I still love it, but it could have been so much bigger, it could have had much more immersion. It was way too easy for my standards, I've played through Zelda: OoT - Master Quest. Trust me, that raises your standards significantly. Even a friend of mine who had never played a Zelda game before found that Zelda: TP was too easy. I mean, come on, where are the bosses that will totally kick your ass when you make even the tiniest mistake??? (Bongo-Bongo anyone?) It wasn't only the bosses, but also the temples I thought were too easy. EVEN the Lakebed Temple. The Water Temple is supposed to be crucifying. I still have nightmares from OoT's Water Temple. *shudders*
I'd love too see Wii MotionPlus, to be able to swing your sword with pinpoint accuracy, block incoming projectiles and fight in a way we have never done before in a Zelda game!
Well, we'll see, maybe next year's E3, LGC or TGS... =D
