Final Fantasy: 10 Best Plot Twists That Saved the Series (And 10 That Ruined It)

There is perhaps no game more associated with plot twists than Final Fantasy. Since the release of the franchise’s first installment in 1987, Final Fantasy has rolled out one surprise reveal after another, sometimes having even multiple within a single storyline. This has led to a sizable divide between supporters and critics of the franchise, who’ve spent years debating which twists work and which thoroughly undermine the narrative that built up to it.

Oh man, they should had 1 place for " massacred GG" in this article saved for what happened after ffX-2 , good list tho

Screen rant putting a top 10 article in a one page format? That’s a plot twist right there

Thing is the Ragnarok Squall and Rinoa find was talked about a bit before that moment so it’s not like it came out of thin air to save the day. Anyway I think that scene in space was beautiful

As for the orphanage thing again they did mention GFs cause memory loss at the start of the game, many people talk about it. A plot twist crazy and out of nowhere sure but it did have a bit of build up, it was just executed poorly

Oh and they’ve put a FFXIII thing as FFVIII

yeah when i saw #9 i was like wtf haha

"many people talk about it"
I only remember one or two people mentioning it in the beginning of the game (one saying that they should stop using GFs because of amnesia, and other saying that the amnesia-thing is a lie, if I remember correctly). Funny thing is that nobody can remember their freaking childhoods, but the couple of people who mention the GF-amnesia problem say like it's not confirmed.

My problem with the orphanage twist isn't that they don't remember. It's that they were all conveniently best friends at the orphanage, even though there are hundreds (thousands?) or orphaned kids in the FFVIII world. It's a funny coincidence that the five people who just so happen to get put together for a mission against Edea also grew up together.

Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster – Step Back in Time

Gary Green said: It’s interesting to revisit the roots of your favorite franchises to see first-hand what’s changed and what’s stuck around all these years, though perhaps ‘visit’ would be more accurate than ‘revisit’ since apparently, Europe wasn’t worthy of the original six Final Fantasy games the first time around. By the time we started getting ports of these iconic games, we’d already been through the PSOne JRPG golden age. So we’d already seen the best of what Final Fantasy had to offer, while these predecessors looked outdated, unrefined, and (dare I say it) ugly. We aren’t bitter about the delayed releases, honest…
