Should Halo 6 be on Xbox One or the Next Xbox?

This is a bit of an odd place for the Xbox One and Microsoft as a whole as they seem to have lost a bit of momentum against their competitors. Both the Nintendo Switch and the PS4 are selling far better than its Microsoft counterpart and the lack of first-party titles makes it even more discouraging and a harder sell to consumers to invest their hard-earned funds on an Xbox One. With falling a bit behind, the Xbox One’s presence on the gaming market is taking a serious hit, but could their flagship franchise be able to turn the consoles fortune? Let us weigh in.

if Next Xbox is BC then it can be easily be released on Xone ...if not then only on Next Xbox-XoneX....Xone is on his (longtime now) downfall without any possible hope for return ....though Halo 6 being developped by lame 343 is like having a fail game even before release ...gold days of Halo CE cannot be redone imo

mcstorm2204d ago

Tbh halo 4 sp was very good mp not so good halo 5 sp was not the best but MP is one of th best shooting MP games this gen. If 343i can get a sp like halo 4 and no like halo 5 they are on for a winner.

halo 4 campaign was ok still a lot of flaws like having to read the books to get the full story of the didact and terrible cod style ending. halo 5 multiplayer was definitely a big step in the right direction but can definitely be improved like all the pointless and horrible armour variants. the story and characters in halo 5 were so bad I literally think it's close to impossible to fix the story now. I will settle for playing the whole game as master chief, being back on a halo ring and most importantly get rid of the annoying ai squad team mates in campaign

It should come out when it's ready...

DJStotty2203d ago

my money is on this year, announcement at E3

porkChop2205d ago

It should be on the Xbox One. Every console should go out with a bang with at least one big final game.

maybelovehate2203d ago

As long as it is on PC I don't care where else it is.

gangsta_red2204d ago

But aren't al the new Xbox's going to be forward and backwards from this point on?

So I really don't think this question matters anymore.

DemonChicken2204d ago

This +1

And if the next one, then releasing and making the Xbox One X was utterly pointless since there is limited first party games that showcase and make use of the console (ignoring third party efforts)

2pacalypsenow2204d ago

Right but it would be held back by the Xbox 1 hardware instead of taking advantage of next gen hardware.

gangsta_red2204d ago

@2pac

Not sure how Xbox 1 will hold it back considering all we might be seeing from this point on are upgrades in graphics and resolution.

Design wise games will be pretty much be all the same, unless some new way of interacting/controlling games becomes the standard that will make it impossible to be supported by Xbox 1.

TheCommentator2204d ago

@ Gangsta Red

One thing likely to change quite a bit by the next consoles' release is physics. AI has a lot of room to grow as well. It may also be possible that the next consoles will be able to get to "full raytracing" but, according to Epic in a recent interview, that's going to take about 25Tf in order to realize... so I'm not sure we'll be there by the time they launch.

I think it's safe to assume that the 1X will become the base platform for "Next Gen" at a minimum since MS doesn't do generations anymore. By the time that happens though you'll be able to experience next gen games in 1080p for a couple hundred bucks on the 1X. So if MS is making the next Halo for the next Xbox it probably won't play on an Xbox One, but to me it's more realistic to think that the next Halo will be out before 2020 on current systems instead.

DigitalRaptor2204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

"Not sure how Xbox 1 will hold it back considering all we might be seeing from this point on are upgrades in graphics and resolution."

In reality, how boring that would be? No, really what makes forward compatibility a non-starter is VR, which it's pretty clear that the next Xbox is going to support. The original XB1 is only powerful enough to deliver the most rudimentary of VR experiences at best. PS4 (as you know) has its own limitations for VR. Imagine just how held back VR would be on the next Xbox if forward compatibility becomes a thing. Heck, maybe they'll make an exception in forward compatibility for VR games, but my point still stands... if the only improvements next-gen are graphics and resolution and not enabling brand new gameplay experiences I figure that would be extremely disappointing to see.

Gazondaily2204d ago

As crazy as this sounds, I agree with Digitalraptor here. Just an upgrade in res and visuals would suck.

I dont think thats gonna work; with physics and AI improvements- just the base tasks on some next gen titles will be too tasking for current gen consoles. Its why I dont understand how forward compatibility will work at all unless its cloud streaming based?

Kaze242204d ago

Yep, they should make Halo 6 on Xone then have a patch ready for the next xbox, higher detail and 60+ Fps.

TheCommentator2204d ago

@ Digital Raptor

"...if the only improvements next-gen are graphics and resolution and not enabling brand new gameplay experiences I figure that would be extremely disappointing to see."

I agree, and you just described this generation to a tee. Same games as last gen, just prettier.

gangsta_red2204d ago

@DigitalRaptor and Septic
I don't see VR as being in the actual plans for the forward/backwards compatibility MS was stating for Xbox.

Instead I'm guessing it's for games that only use the console to play and not an added peripheral or games specifically made for VR.

If anything games made by MS would have a VR option but still be able to be played regularly.

"if the only improvements next-gen are graphics and resolution and not enabling brand new gameplay experiences I figure that would be extremely disappointing to see"

We have already seen it this gen though. There hasn't been anything new gameplay/design wise that we haven't experienced last gen. The only added gameplay design experiences we have had is a camera button, other than that it's the same layout, the same game play design and the only thing that has improved is graphics/resolution (and of course bigger worlds).

Worlds in games will continue to get bigger, graphics will get sharper, res will get crispier but expecting new experiences like VR to take over traditional gaming, I wouldn't count on that just now.

I think streaming games will be the norm sooner than VR will.

"Its why I dont understand how forward compatibility will work at all unless its cloud streaming based?"

This is exactly what MS is working towards. In recent and past Phil interviews this is what he was saying the cloud would be used for and if this happens then Xbox can truly achieve the fw/bc they keep talking about.

Obscure_Observer2203d ago

@DigitalRaptor

"No, really what makes forward compatibility a non-starter is VR, which it's pretty clear that the next Xbox is going to support."

The X was desinged to deliver current gen VR experiences with OCULUS and VIVE. Thing is, Microsoft thinks that VR need to mature and evolve to offer more than point and click (teleport) experiences. So there´s nothing preventing VR to be on X other than Microsoft themselves.

Well, 4-Infinite dropped the ball massively so don't worry.

Sgt_Slaughter89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Not really. 4, 5, MCC, and Infinite are only remembered for their shortcomings and failures when the franchise was purely known for being a system seller and an all-time great. There's a reason 1, 2, 3, and Reach are looked back on fondly, and it's not because of nostalgia.

FinalFantasyFanatic89d ago

I don't know of anyone that speaks fondly of the later Halo games, I would like to play 5, but I know it's not good, and I'm just waiting on Infinite to hit my strike price. I played MCC a lot later after it came out, so must of those bugs/issues were gone by the time I played it.

PhillyDonJawn89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

To say it dropped the massively is just not true. Many in the community hold H5 as the best mp mechanics in the entire series and say its what 4 should've been. Its campaign was trash but the MP is Fantastic and many faces of the community still play today and it only made 500mill in the matter of months but sure it dropped the ball massively. 4 was hated due to all the changes at once. And CoD like feature and rightful get hate but it's campaign story was liked by a majority of ppl. 343 hasn't nailed ot 100% but they get 1 thing perfect but F up in other places. Infinite had a good campaign and design but the story was a mess. The MP improves upon what Halo 3 was and is what many ppl wanted to go back to but it lacked content severely. So massively aint the word. Dropping the ball massively is when it's pure trash and unplay/unenjoyable. Most ppl blind by nostalgia so soon as 1 thing aint the same its hated cause Halo set the bar so high
FYI reach was not that good.
