All 5 Donkey Kong Country Games, Ranked

All of the Donkey Kong Country games have been fantastic, in their own way - so trying to work out which of them is the king of swing is a daunting task. Glad Freeze has a chance to shine on a system more people own!

skcej2193d ago

Still unsure whether to pick up Freeze though!

BLAKHOODe2193d ago

Same. I love DKC back in the day, but I hardly ever play the Switch and I'm not sure I want to put anymore money into it.

Theknightofnights2192d ago

You hardly ever play the Switch, so you don't want to invest money into games that will help you play your Switch more often?

That doesn't really make sense...

BLAKHOODe2192d ago

I hardly ever play my Switch because better version of games are typically on PS or Xbox, so my money goes on those platforms. I've bought 2 games for the Switch - Mario Kart and Super Mario Odyssey. I played each for a couple of days. My Switch has collected dust sense. Sure, DKC might be a good reason to dust it off, but more as a rental than a full purchase. Other than that, there isn't any other game coming to Switch I'm interested in. And if I had to part with one of my consoles sometime soon, it'd easily be the Switch.

@Blakhood

That’s kind of his point. It sounds like you aren’t investing in games that would put your Switch to use. I bet if you bought more games for the console it’d get more play time.

A console is only as good as the games you buy for it.

@ BLAKHOODe

It's pretty easy to see you don't actually have a Switch, go away you troll.

I was also on the fence. I ended up buying it and I’m glad I did. It looks great in Docked mode and also Portable mode. The loading times are much better and it’s a locked 60fps.

deafdani2192d ago

If you haven't played it on the Wii U already, and loved the original DKC games, then yes, go for it. It's fantastic.

Tom_Hopkins2193d ago

Looking forward to finally getting the chance to play Tropical Freeze.

jamiethepayne2193d ago

Kiddy Kong always scared the hell out of me (especially in Japanese where his name is Dinky).

strayanalog2193d ago

Ah, yes. Twinfinite.

Here's their list:‎‎
5. DKC: R
4. DKC 3
3. DKC: TF
2. DKC
1. DKC 2

I haven't played Tropical Freeze (which I will today), so I hold my opinion till then.‎

Donkey Kong Country Returns: A triumphant return indeed

As the first game to be released in the DKC series in 11 years, fans of Donkey Kong were eager to see how the iconic ape’s adventures continued. And when it was finally released, the game proved well worth the wait. With incredible level design, difficult yet fun platforming gameplay, vibrant presentation and an amazing soundtrack, “Donkey Kong Country Returns” is an amazing side-scrolling platformer and an incredible comeback for one of Nintendo’s oldest mascots.

I'm glad they didn't. I heard he was asking for way too much money to reprise his role as a mascot. Which is ludicrous since everybody knows Rambi is the real star here. Enguarde is just a second stinger at best.

The audacity of this fish! SHAME!!!

It’s The Perfect Time For A New Donkey Kong Country

Screen Rant Writes "It's been almost a decade since players have seen a new Donkey Kong Country game, but with the opening of Super Nintendo World, now is the perfect time to release a new DKC game. The last entry was 2014's Tropical Freeze (a slightly enhanced version was re-released for the Switch in 2018), which received rave reviews and between its Wii U and Switch sales, performed very well. The original Donkey Kong Country also spotlighted environmental themes, which would prove to be just as salient if a new entry were to release in the coming years."

Super Mario Bros first please. Plus we still need a current gen Mario Kart.

Number1TailzFan479d ago

Mario Kart will probably be the same rehashed gameplay minus Mission Mode again.

We need a new Diddy Kong Racing.

Asplundh479d ago (Edited 479d ago )

I would love to see another Double Dash game.

It’s always the perfect time for DKC

RaiderNation479d ago (Edited 479d ago )

No its a perfect time for another 3D Donkey Kong. I dont want 2D anything.

Snookies12479d ago (Edited 479d ago )

I'm halfway agreeing with you on that, lol... 2D is still a fantastic route for Donkey Kong Country to go with. Yet, I still love Donkey Kong 64 to this day, and play it through every so often. I absolutely want a new 3D Donkey Kong game in a similar style. Loved going back through levels with different characters that had unique gameplay aspects. A sequel to DK64 would be the perfect announcement, in my opinion.

Chocoburger479d ago (Edited 479d ago )

I always think about a possible 3D Donkey Kong game, but nothing like DK64, more of a faster paced linear platforming game. Less focus on collectibles, and more focusing on fast platforming action. That'd be amazing for me.

-Foxtrot479d ago (Edited 479d ago )

We need more 3D stuff, the side scrollers start to all blend together eventually. The last Kirby game was great and refreshing because they moved to 3D.
