Sony Santa Monica has Successfully Changed Kratos’ Public Image

Kratos is still the same character, but with a much more dynamic range of emotions. In the new God of War, Kratos begins his journey by cremating his second wife Faye with the assistance their son Atreus. Which feelings he allows to come to the surface are minor and highly muted at first, but they show far more depth to his character than ever before.

I like Kratos in God Of War Trilogy, but this one make me feel for him deeply. A broken person who has been tricked by Ares and the gods didn’t make him a promise. So much pain and suffer that Kratos has enough and kill every Greek gods for betraying him and never make a promise. Until he realized that he destroyed the Greek world. In Norse world, he has a family. Kratos never change who he was, but his son can. Kratos is not looking for redemption or neither hero, but he will find small fraction of humanity inside him.

Kids have a way of changing a person.

dumahim2200d ago

Killing his kid certainly did.

KwietStorm_BLM2200d ago

Kratos already was changed when he killed his wife and daughter in the first place. And he found humanity and redemption in himself at the end of God of War III. This is just a new story and a different life he's living.

Maybe he'll run for president in the USA as time takes it's course?! Just a couple thousand more years to go...

capjacksparrow2200d ago

Technically he could just use the time travel device he used in God of War II and just teleport to the future. I would vote for him over Trump, we'd probably see less tweets.

They've changed gaming in general. This game will serve as a benchmark for future games.

UCForce2199d ago (Edited 2199d ago )

And it feel natura evolutionl to be honest.

Veneno2200d ago (Edited 2200d ago )

Ehhhhhhh no. This new game has some good moments but as a whole SSM really limited themselves in delivering a good narrative by doing the whole "one shot 📷 camera" thing. It left the story more to exposition rather than SHOWING us the story. It was a poor choice.

UCForce2200d ago

I think you didn’t understand fully. It’s focus on Kratos and his son character and development. I don’t think it was a poor choice. It’s paid off big time.

Veneno2199d ago

There were some touching moments but I think that Atreus was anachronistic in his character while every other character fit the world. He acts like a suburban kid and it really broke things up for me. And his character arc just wasn't believable. It swings back and forth on a dime.

UCForce2200d ago (Edited 2200d ago )

You know why people give the game a 10 and 9 scores ? You can say they are biased, but it more than bias. The game surpassed people expectations. The thing is, this God Of War is the new beginning for Kratos. I hope they will keep one shot camera in the sequel,

Veneno2199d ago

While this new game certainly does change the direction for the series, all they did was use the Last of us prototype and applied it to God of War then made some refinements. But in the end TLOU does it better. There fore God of War is just shy of getting all of the perfect scores. If you ask me, I think the majority of critics are too scared to not give it a 10 in fear of the fanboy shitstorm.

UCForce2199d ago (Edited 2199d ago )

@Veneno This game have been developed for 5 years and this not The Last of Us copy and paste. I’m sorry, but you kinda misunderstand here. See user scores on metacritics of GOW ? Sure, it isn’t important you think, but critics and consumer have been impressed. And again, you are misunderstanding here. It’s feel like The Last of Us, but it never play out like The Last of Us.

UCForce2199d ago

I really like him though. He is a kid who can make Kratos a better person. Kratos didn’t want Atreus to be a killer like he was. He want his son to better than him. It’s fit Atreus character arc.

Veneno2199d ago

Hmmmm kinda reminds me of 2 characters whose names may or may not rhyme with Goal and Smelly.

Hardiman2200d ago

I'm in awe if this story and it's amazing how far he has come as a man!

Might be in a minority here but I didn't enjoy any of the sections playing as Atreus or having companions at all. If I had my way it'd be Kratos on his lonesome from start to finish. Straightforward action gameplay without the endless boring chatter.
