Halo: Combat Evolved was a genre defining experience and is part of one of the greatest video game stories ever created. Even to this day the universe is rich, and it's effortless to return for another play through.

OFC FF7 being at 99 was intentional click-bait so people would argue and click, but if you're going to knock a game being in that list above FF7 maybe consider Tetris or League of Legends, Monkey Island, Simcity 2000, Dota 2, Rock

Halo in my opinion is easily in the top ten. It revolutionize shooters on consoles. FF7 is also a top 10 game imo. Not sure how it ended up at 99 but that’s why this list is just OPINIONS.

Why would you put Tetris on this list?.. Or League of Legends????? That game is as a mod turned F2P standalone. It's popular because it's free and it boomed, but it's NOT a greatest game ever made. It's a bare bones as fuck arcade custom map. That kind of shit beats FF7? Get lost. Total argue-bait.

Like, most influential?.. Most played by numbers? Games that made history for some reason? Genre creating/defining titles? Highest rated on steam? "Personal", favorite game of all time?

Though, I think any time a COMPANY publishes an article—and not a op-ed piece—about something like 'one hundred greatest games' it should be done so on an aggregate. Statistics such as sales, long-term cultural and industry impact, critic reception, immediate impact would do it, I would think.

Individual gamers or "dudebros" are more than welcome to offer their favorite games, just please don't pass it off as a credible list meant to convey any sense of weight or merit.

It doesn't take more than a momentary glance to look at the psychological tricks employed in F2P mobile & facebook games to show pure "enjoyment" isn't locked-in-the-hip to popularity.

But I already was being truthful. I find the mere suggestion of units sold/sales to be a contemptible part of your hypothetical measurement; in fact, I wonder how much influence THAT may have set in determining which titles made the list.

But your suggestion is grounded on the idea of marrying such disparate notions as data/facts and subjective bias already--even if we're considering it as a fraction (which you've been gradually minimizing with each response back). When there's other/better factors & arguments to be made when compiling these lists I just don't see why we should bother with that.

I kinda agree on Mario World considering its my favorite 2D Mario game that its essentially a perfect game. you can make the same case for Mario 3 as well.
