Dragon Age 4 is real, it's 'story and character focused' and contains 'live' elements

It's official, a new Dragon Age game is coming, and regardless of whether it's officially called Dragon Age 4 or something else entirely, many are excited. Gossip of a new Dragon Age game have been circling for a while, and even though BioWare is busy with Anthem right now, it's nice to see EA actually confirm Dragon Age 4 is a thing. Mark Darrah, executive producer on the entire Dragon Age series, and Anthem too, tweeted out that a new Dragon Age game is in development.

oh great more MTs. the quality of dragon age has been on a slow decline.

PhoenixUp2242d ago

Slow decline?

The only reason Dragon Age 2 turned out the way it did was because the game's development was rushed in order to capitalize on the success of the previous installment.

Dragon Age: Inquisition on the other hand had a more lengthy development cycle and was awarded over 150 year-end accolades and nominated for more, including Game of the Year and Best Role-playing awards from several gaming publications. It has an 89 on Metacritic which is in the same aggregate score range as Dragon Age: Origins.

aarallen12242d ago

Totally agree, I actually liked all 3. Granted, 1 and 3 were the best of the series.

bluefox7552242d ago (Edited 2242d ago )

The first one was by far the best. 2 was worse, 3 was worst. The fact that metacritic says DA:O and DA:I are effectively equal is exactly why you shouldn't listen to metacritic.

fiveby92242d ago

DA:O was really good. And I liked DA:I just not quite as much. I never played DA:2 so I can really speak for that title.

gangsta_red2242d ago

Loved DA 1 and 3, not really sure where the decline comes in at unless it's the same team that did ME:A

PhantomS422241d ago

Dragon Age Inquisition was only well received because it was better than DA2...which isn't a high bar and the game is still pretty bad. In decline is a bit generous seeing as it's only had one great game.

_-EDMIX-_2241d ago

Agreed. They did a great job with Dragon Age Inquisition.

PhoenixUp2241d ago

@ blue

Sounds like you’re just hating on the game.

Metacritic doesn’t review games, it’s an aggregate site just like Gamerankings. It means that various critics hold the game in high regard.

@ Phantom

A game doesn’t get numerous awards for merely being slightly better than its divisive predecessor

mikeslemonade2241d ago

We don’t need another Dragon Age. That game has weak graphics.

Dragonscale2241d ago

Inquisition was meh along wth 2. The original was best and even that was pretty average tbh.

Last_Boss2241d ago

I loved Dragon Age 2. I recognize it's major flaws, bit the story was really good. Also Knight Commander Meredith and the Arishok were bat shit crazy.

Oh great more whining about MT's.
Here's a tip... If you don't like what EA's business practices with MT's, then don't buy their games or support them. But all the whining and bitching isn't going to change a thing as long as people keep supporting EA with their wallets.

chrisx2241d ago (Edited 2241d ago )

thanks for the tips Mr tipper. I don't support ea, I haven't done that in a long time so I put my money where my mouth is. go on whining and bitching about others whining and bitching. carry on sir 👍

thekhurg2241d ago

Except Inquisition was amazing, and won several GOTY awards.

HERP DERP!

maybelovehate2241d ago

Decline? Inquisition was by far the best in the series.

Dark_Knightmare22241d ago

Lol no just no dragon age origins is way better than inquisition.

I really hope it's a great single player game, with a fantastic story, characters, combat, etc.

Hope it has none of the EA microtransaction BS

LandoCalrissiano2241d ago

And if they have mt's how will that affect you, who, will not be buying them? Quality of life decline? Property value lower? First born dies? Screw off. If you don't buy them, it doesn't affect you. If it doesn't affect you, it's non of your concern. Stop flooding the internet with mt negativity.

No Way2241d ago

You're ignorant. Its been proven, numerous times, that MTs affect everyone who buys the game, whether you buy them or not. Most games have them now so your game catalog is gonna be lacking.

Bimkoblerutso2241d ago (Edited 2241d ago )

Microtransactions have almost completely altered the standard of quality in gaming, friend. Game developers have somehow managed to convince a bunch of gamers that they are simply monetizing content that does not affect the core game...but the "core" of a game is a myth. A game is the sum of all it's parts, and even taking out cosmetic features is a sure fire way of ensuring your 60 hour game is a boring 60 hour slog. I mean, sure, it's still 60 hours, but it's like the difference between a couple of hours at the DMV and a couple of hours at a movie theater.

...and that's just presupposing all they're taking out is cosmetic stuff. It's ridiculously naive at this point to assume that's all they're going to do.

LandoCalrissiano2240d ago

You're retarded. That's like saying that a movie is the sum of all its parts and we will not watch movies that go into theaters because they sell consessions.

Bimkoblerutso2239d ago (Edited 2239d ago )

It would be more like if they made parts of the movie black and white and made you pay extra for the color.

But whatever, dude. Gaming has been going downhill for a LONG time. Idiots like you aren't responsible for it. You just play into what's already been established by these asshole pubs and devs.

PhoenixUp2242d ago

I hope executive meddling doesn’t hinder a new Dragon Age game in any way like it did with DA2.

Hardiman2242d ago

Will wait and see with this one.

Lovable2242d ago

Sweet another RPG. Keep em coming and will buy this once it goes bargain bin which should be in 2 months after release.

PhantomS422241d ago

RPG is kinda generous when talking about modern day Bioware games....

Dragon Age: Inquisition Retro Review – A Nostalgic Leap Short Of Legendary

Dragon Age: Inquisition, developed by BioWare, is the third installment in the cherished Dragon Age series. It represents a major evolution from its predecessor, Dragon Age II, incorporating elements that were well-loved in the original Dragon Age: Origins but also introducing new features that stand on their own. While Inquisition improves upon Dragon Age II in many respects, it falls short of the exceptional standards set by Origins.
