Should RPGs Be More 'Realistic'?

Is this real life? Is this just fantasy?

Depends on the game really and what's it's setting out to do.

RPGs have their history intertwined with fantasy, dragons and valkyrie breasts but there's room for a lot of variation. Can't set a general rule on that.

I never understand these articles.

If a developer wants to make an RPG that's realistic I think that's really cool but I don't understand these bizarre generalizations like "should RPGs be realistic" I mean is the author not understanding that that is up to the interpretation and discretion of the designer and developer?

So should RPGs be more realistic? Well I don't know but that is up to the developer, is somebody seriously asking if I developers allowed to create something they want or?

So to be frank I believe RPGs should be whatever the developer wants it to be I think that maybe this article needs to word itself better or have a more specific thing it's asking as opposed to a very very strange generalization.

So there isn't a should or shouldn't because there is no right or wrong way you're talking about something that is subjective and varies by nature.

It depends on what you are trying to do with your game. Personally, I like high fantasy like Elder Scrolls, The Witcher or Final Fantasy.

For me RPG needs to have magic, monsters, tales etc that’s way the Witcher is so good. I don’t need more..

Is there a need for a blanket requirement one way or the other? Some will. Some won't. This is like asking "should FPSs focus more on laser guns". It's a subjective genre preference.

As for KC:D, I think it's fantastic. But not all RPGs need to be like this.

Yeah like if the best selling JRPG "Pokemon" is in anyway realistic, or most popular RPG as Final Fantsy is realstic, or the most favorable RPG this gen The Witcher 3 and Perosna 5 is realstic!!
Go find another genre to be realstic not RPG. The only realstic RPG I can think of now is HZD.

IMO, it really depends on what exactly you mean by «realism» and how fun that «realism» is/implemented within a game.

For instance, i would love to play RPG with «realistic» characters, meaning characters that interact with you and each other, act like human beings, have their own opinions, ideas, ideals, they can interact with each other, hate/love/help/screw with each other.

But i would not enjoy a game, where you must wake up, wash yourself, prepare food and slowly eat it, drive to work, perform said work, then take a pee break (or smoke break) and so on, each day, every day. I already have enough of such «realism».

OT: My personal opinion is that games are fantasy, so why not just add some fantasy in there.
I, myself wouldn't make a medieval game with magic, monsters, and maybe dragons.

Everyone has different opinions. I like all types of RPGs and personally I think it will get boring really fast if all RPGs were "realistic".
