Red Faction Guerrilla Remaster Coming to PS4 and Xbox One

It looks like THQ Nordic are reviving another THQ franchise for PS4 as Gamestop listings appear for Red Faction: Guerrilla on PS4 and Xbox One.

Oh my god ! That game was my favorite and it’s also show the destruction environment before Crackdown 3 was a thing.

This game had amazing destruction and it was a great game, but this has nothing to do with Crackdown 3. No one claimed Crackdown 3 invented destruction, ever heard of Battlefield? Plenty of other games have it. What Crackdown 3 is supposedly innovating in (at least in their tech demos) is open world destruction down to minute details calculated by the cloud...also with multiplayer.

Well, destruction has always been one of the main features of the red faction series, even back in 2001 with the 1st game.

And teh scale in which Crackdown is doing destruction vs Red Faction- dont compare. Its embarrassing.

I think you are confusing in-engine destruction vs. cloud destruction. What MS claims Crackdown 3 is doing is not the same as this game. You are just looking at things crumbling and assuming it's the same thing. Cloud computation is actually innovative if true. It means you can have multiple instances of very detailed destruction in different areas of an open map, without multiplayer players interacting with it (unlike Red faction which is single player only).

They did not say they created destructible environments. You don't seem to know what you are talking about. What Red faction achieved is incredible but the difference with Crackdown 3 is only that there is a lot MORE destruction in a seamless multiplayer environment. We don't know if the actual game will succeed in doing this but I'm explaining their claims.

Remember this gen has worse CPUs than last gen. Better physics might not be possible.

PS4 CPU is comparable considering the amount of optimization that was needed for the Cell, and 360 CPU handled it just fine, so you're saying the 360 CPU is still better than the APU CPU in the PS4? Also, GPU computes physics..

I think Physics done on the gpu these days. It's a technique mark cerny discussed when ps4 was announced. Ubisoft did a huge presentation about it.

@Rare: I was wondering about that after my comment actually. But if the GPU is expected to pump out higher graphic fidelity how much room will be left for physics?

@Eidolon: If the PS3 and 360 CPUs are roughly equivalent to the PS4 Xbone CPUs how the hell is it going to pump out better physics and better graphics at the same time? The GPUs in the current gen consoles aren't beasts by any measure. There's a reason we haven't seen better physics and AI in current gen consoles as opposed to last gen; CPUs. APUs extra efficiency isn't enough to make up for the lack of power.

But the GPUs can now handle general processing, while in the gen7 consoles couldn't. I'm pretty sure PS4/XB1 can handle a remake with much better physics, the CPUs ARE better and and easier to optimize, but the Cell if fully optimized might actually do some pretty good physics, but that level of optimization never happen for physics(used for graphics or extra power mostly ignored), and GPGPU already blows it out of the water.

@Eidolon: I get the GPUs can process physics but if the PS4 GPU is being used for improved graphics and resolution, than it won't have a lot of room for physics. And if the CPU in the PS4 is roughly the same as the PS3 CPU where is the extra computing coming from?

Bro, the PS4 would only need to use 1/10 of it's optimized GPU FLOPS to handle the max a fully optmized PS3 Cell broadband engine could handle. The Jaguar CPU, however, is a bit weaker as far as FLOPs, but it is leagues better for general processing, including AI, especially since devs hardly took advantage of the the SPEs to it's full potential.

i could never finish it it has so many side/main quests it scared me LOL anytime i played i was just running around doing crazy stuff. I think THQ Nordic are taking the let's see what the reaction approach to some of the IP's they bought when THQ closed

first they tested it with darksiders 1-2 remaster and now we are getting a 3rd game in the series

I hope they bring back saints row but more like it was with saints row 1-2. After that the series just went nuts and lost a lot of it's appeal. SR 1-2 were perfect mixture of crazy with serious tone. If they were to remaster SR1-2 i would buy them

I'm actually glad they are though, because a lot of stuff I missed out on last gen. One of the few unknown games "The Raven Remastered" (aka The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief) is another getting the remastered treatment.

Need to try Darksiders, like you just mentioned.

DS2 is awesome while DS1 was good. If you like god of war, zelda and diablo you will like DS2. It has combat like GOW, dungeons like zelda and loot like diablo. It could have been a much much better game but the developers just made few decisions that didn't help the game

THQ Nordic doesn't owned Saint Row so they can't remake SR1-2. Deep Silver is going to let the franchise die off.

Oh, I never actually played Raven yet. I missed out on a lot of (digital only) titles during the PS3/360/Wii era. That is why I was happy to see it given another chance on current-gen.

THQ Nordic are testing to see, if people are still interested in the franchise. They conducted the test with Darksiders 1-2 which now they are working on Darksiders 3.

This is the "remaster" generation , add a few new art assets, up the frame rate...maybe....and lift the resolution, sell for full price...rinse , repeat.... creativity is dead or crushed underneath the big corporate push for higher dividends....

Both this, and Armageddon, were fantastic titles. Was a little let down when the latter opted out of the open world, but, it also ended up being one of the tightest, most entertaining 3rd person shooters I had played. Guerrilla, in turn, was one of the most entertaining open world games I had played. Repetitious? Sure. But going in, and wrecking the enemy's everything, time and again, was just so entertaining.
It really did feel like you were making resistance power plays throughout the entire experience.

You're the first person besides myself that I've witnessed praising Armageddon since it came out all those years ago. I think the destroy and rebuild mechanic was very fun and addictive. I also enjoyed the story and atmosphere as well. It was more like the first two games in that aspect which is why I was so surprised that it got shunned so much. Guerilla was nothing special and very boring to me.
