Well... At the time that Gears 1 released, the 360 already was hacked since March of that year. But still even with all those modded 360's out there Gears 1 sold 5 mln. within a half year or so to what max. 10 mln. users at that time. It has sold over 6 mln. in total now. YOU FAIL

Wrong again. Thats less than Gears 1 and it sold it in a longer period with a larger installed base. The PS3 now sold what, 15 mln. units? Compare that to the 10 mln. when Gears 1 sold 5 mln. within no time. MGS4 surely is no flop, but seen the development costs they can never get the investment back thats made. Thus the comment was correct. YOU FAIL

well if it doesn't sell faster then it does now and more in total, Konami needs to get their investment costs back in another way. Konami has shareholders, they want profits over made investments of their money. If the project gets a loss or just breaks even but no money is earned, they get no intrest on their invested money.

Thus bringing over MGS4 to the 360 in the end is the only thing they can get profits and get their total investments back. It will be the most logical thing to do with 22 mln. 360's out there and the gameconsole that will sell the most this Christmas at the current crazy prices.

I understand your logic @ konami's proffit margins and recouping costs. If you can provide links showing cost estimates and such (I can work the rest out for myself) I might just change my opinion. So far I don't think it's likely MGS4 will be ported, not cos of crap like "its not possible on 360", but because of Kojima. He is a perfectionist as we all may have heard, and it would be difficult for him to reproduce the same quality and feel of the story on multiple disks. I am of the opinion that Blu-ray does matter this gen, others are not. Thats cool. Anyway I don't think its likely. But hey, strange things are happening these days. Who knows?

Every game slows down selling after the initial months pretty much. Even MGS4 has slowed down a lot already and I bet it won't exceed Gears 1. For sure Gears 2 will cut the sales of MGS4 to pieces now with two times as much units out there at least compared when Gears 1 released.

Gears 1 to Gears 2 comparison is right dude... Gears 1 got pirated andd was out sooner then the disc was in shops... Plus: even if the disc is in someones possession: its not spread or leaked as pirated copy yet. Might not even happen untill release.

Even better... Sony have said it themselves:

So don't know if it did, but even if it sold 1 mln. units day one its still only break even, development costs recouped. Not even to gain big profits. Did it sold 1 mln. on day one? Anyone knows?

The exact development costs are not known. But seen the time MGS4 has been in production, the large number of people working on it being a project as big as Killzone 2 (which have 120 people working on that game for years) which is said to be costing 60 million Dollar.

Difficult doesn't mean impossible. Second, the 360 and PS3 can do about the same in visuals etc. the 360 is just easier to develop for. Multiple discs aren't a problem if needed because of the many cutscenes one has to watch. So the quality is nonsense, especially when the fall update is here with full installations of the games to the HDD on the 360. The only thing needed is a 120GB 360 HDD...

and @Lanoire you're comparing a 2 year old game that was released when the 360 was at a LOWER install base and a new game that's not even a year old for a larger install base. Gears 1 sales are pretty impressive because they sold to atleast half of the 360 owners that were out there. Has MGS4 done that?

There are such things as "Review Copies" sent out to certain people. The problem is, sometimes whoever gets a hold of it CAN pirate it. Just look at Fallout 3 for example. Over 3 weeks til release and the review copy is already pirated and downloaded.

Are you trying to say that Metal Gear Solid is more commonly found in the 'bargain bin' than the original Gears of War? The 2 disc special edition Gears of War retails for 39.99 so I can't imagine finding an older copy for more than 25 to 30 bucks. Metal Gear Solid? Not so much.

And for you Wikipedia quote, it seems as though everyone is forgetting to mention that Gears of War was also released on the PC and that of those 5 million units sold, some were from the PC. Obviously those 2 million or so units were sold on the 360 before the PC version even launched, but the PC game has now been out for about a year and I can't find a statistic that separates the two version's sales.

So 5 million = 360 sales + PC sales over 2 years.

So as of August (2 months ago) 3.94 million copies (I would wager it safe to assume that with bundled copies, which are not included in data, and with the 2 more months not included) 4.3 million = PS3 sales over 4 months.

Regardless of PC sales being included in that 5 million figure, I stand by the assumption that MGS4 has sold about 4.3 million copies to date, which is not by any stretch of the imagination, a lot less that Gears of War. Especially when comparing the time periods.

So what? It just proves most 360 fans are shooter fans. And Gears is everything they could have hoped for: huge space marines with a 'badass' attitude kicking alien butt in the goriest way possible. That just screams Xbox right there.

On the other hand, MGS has always been a niche gam. Add to that the fact that Playstation don't all enjoy the same type of game (like he 360 fans), and its much harder for a game to sell lots of units.

Just look at the PS2 and Gran Turismo or GTA. Those games sold over 10 million units (each installment) and that doesn't even represent 10% of the PS2 install base.

That said, which gamer gives a f#ck about how much a game sells?

Yeah but notice that fan - boys only hate on things that are Exclusive to the "other" console. Usually resulting from they cant play it, so the knee-jerk reaction is to bash it as much as possible to ease their pain of not being able to play it.

Perfect example is Gears 2 and MGS4. MGS4 is a masterpiece in my opinion, and Gears 2 will more than likely be one of the funnest shooters available come November.

I may be a playstation fanboy, but that doesn't mean i can't enjoy other games on other platforms - give it up you lot, what matters in a game? GAMEPLAY - gears of war has great gameplay and its the main reason people like it, just because the graphics may not be as good as you want them, they still are great.

gets to play his early. it's probably an original copy because i remember before Cod 4 came out a few people were bragging about how they got their copies early from their retailers which were small mom and pop owned business. Sometimes if you build enough trust with these store owners they will let you get any copy of any game earlier than most people.

Although a lot of people thinks that this game might be pirated that still won't stop this game from selling like hotcakes even if that is the case. A large majority of us will probably like to get on live and play with out friends without getting a fine on losing our live accounts over a pirated version. Peace out
