What would make 2018 not so great for the Big N?

Nintendo's going strong but I fear about the exclusives too a little.

eagle212331d ago

Why? They have so many potential huge games/franchises that it's not even funny...lol

MVGeneral2331d ago

I'm a harsh Nintendo critic, only because I was with Nintendo for most of my childhood. And they abandoned their loyal fans from that era by becoming gimmicky and money hungry for mass appeal.

The switch admittedly does a lot of things wrong but a lot of things right as well.

But I will bite the bullet and buy a switch if 3 things happen.
If they make an iteration:
1. With a larger storage room.
2. Mobile data support. (Like ipads have)
3. Better online then the app, Which will soon be paid service.

I don't care if they make it the "pro version" and price it a bit higher. But that's the only way I will buy a switch. Check my past messages I am very critical of Nintendo. But like I said they fix these 3 things I'm on board.

I would consider a hardware revision that:

1) Is smaller, lighter, and more portable.
2) As MVG says, more internal storage. 128GB.

Even then, wouldn't get one until 2019. My budget for 2018 is already fixed.

narsaku2330d ago

Why do you fear for them? They're on pace to become the most popular console in videogame history. Again.

MVGeneral2328d ago

Hahahahahaha.
They didn't even beat the ps4's first year sales.

guywazeldatatt2331d ago

Great article. They’ve been prone to these in the past so hopefully they can get past them of rather not fall into them

yea nintendo i think is gonna have a good year bad year from now on. 2017 was great, 2018 though won't have much i think (unless pokemon manages to scratch that late 2018 which will happen only if the game would be very similar to the 3ds ones and keep the same pokemon models for the previous pokemon) so their sales may become slower in 2018.

alexgibson2331d ago

I feel like 2018 is probably going to be Nintendo consolidating their third-party partnerships. I hope to see a few exclusives, but I bet the big news is that they get some sort of big third-party deal.

narsaku2330d ago

Nintendo is, "the", legend of gaming. They had 1 console not sell well and suddenly it's, "ouuuouououou watch out Nintendo, you might fai-"

Get real. Nobody is immune to messing up. Ask Sony or M$. One of those companies is on the doorstep of Mr and Mrs Bankruptcy.

How many times do these guys have to make the greatest game ever made, or sell the most consoles of a generation for them to get the respect they deserve?

Oh wait, they do. Just not here, in the land of blue.

@Narsaku

" Nintendo is, "the", legend of gaming. They had 1 console not sell well and suddenly it's, "ouuuouououou watch out Nintendo, you might fai-"

Might want to back yourself up with facts then. You're wrong. They had 3 systems fail. N64, Gamecube and Wii U all got destroyed in sales in their respective generations.

PS1 102 million vs N64 33 million
PS2 155 million vs Nintendo Gamecube 22 million
Wii U was also a critical failure as it did 14 million units

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...

" sell the most consoles of a generation for them to get the respect they deserve? "

Portable systems sure. Home Consoles they have been destroyed in sales other than the anomally that was the Wii. Respect is earned. They need to be worthy of it to get it.

"Oh wait, they do. Just not here, in the land of blue"

Well yeah the PS family of systems earned the respect they are garnered. They have 2 of the 3, 100+ million selling consoles. The PS4 is well on pace to be Sony's 3rd 100+ million seller as it is outpacing the PS2 which is the all time bestselling system ever. If everything shakes out as planned the top selling systems will be. If it pans out that will be 3 out of 4 generations with 100+ million system sales! If the PS3 wasn't discontinued it would have been 4 out of 4 generations.

#1 PS2
#2 PS4
#3 PS1
#4 Wii
#5 Switch

Also Sony changed the face of gaming and grew the industry as a whole and moved gaming to another level. They made it main stream.

michellelynn09762325d ago (Edited 2325d ago )

Sony failed with the Vita and VR. And PS2 numbers are inflated due to how many were returned. Also, 64 and GC did well.

michellelynn09762325d ago (Edited 2325d ago )

Just because you sell, doesn't mean you earn respect. Just rabid followers.

michellelynn09762325d ago

And it was Nintendo who helped devlop the ps1.

Knushwood Butt2330d ago

Thanks Chevalier. Logic and facts.

michellelynn09762325d ago

Lol only if he agrees with you, right?

Chevalier2323d ago

@Michelle
" Sony failed with the Vita and VR. And PS2 numbers are inflated due to how many were returned. Also, 64 and GC did well."

Sony VR is half the markets already in the year its been out. It overtook both the HTC Vive and Oculus which had year or 2 head start. I'd say thats pretty good.

PS2 returns? Prove it.

No the N64 and Gamecube did terribly. Learn some math please.

PS1 outsold the N64 by outselling it by 3x (102 million vs. 33 million)
PS2 outsold the Gamecube by a factor of 7x (155 million vs. 22 million)

So facts suggest you are wrong.

" And it was Nintendo who helped devlop the ps1."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...

No actually Nintendo didn't do anything of the sort. Sony produced all the prototypes of the hardware. The chip set for the system Sony designed themselves. Sony Music helped them publish PS1 games on CD.

Again get some facts. You literally are wrong.

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.
