Earthlock Rereleasing As A New Version.

ThisGenGaming says:"It seems like more and more developers are looking at the game they’ve made and think: we could have done better. Snowcastle games has just announced that they will be relaunching Earthlock next year (Q1 2018).

The RPG game will rerelease as “Earthlock”, dropping the “Festival of Magic” subtitle. In all of the available e-stores, the game will be present as such from then on. People who already owned the game (both digital and physical) will be able to get the new version free of charge."

What do you think about games rereleasing? I personally appreciate it when the developers make the effort. Ori & the Blind Forest Definitive Edition really improved upon the Original and removed some frustrations...

Depends. I usually prefer devs to just move on to their next game.

You can have a dev team make a game, and then have another game 2-3 years later, or they could continue work on the first game and you don't get game #2 from them until 6 years after.

Well, in that time, they aren't keep making or creating any new content, and that bothers me with devs.

I'd rather devs leave a small team of people to patch things up here and there and the core team move on to a new game....especially when it's a game that only did ok and isn't amazing.

I do respect them fixing mistakes though.

Earthlock is a decent game. Not a master piece, and not a broken mess. They could, as you said and started on #2.

Taken feedback and fixed any sort of gameplay that didn't work. Or just removed it completely (the planting system for example).

But they've spent the past months/year fixing a game that didn't need fixing.

Fix the save games and it might be worthwhile.

bloodyspasm2329d ago

Where there many issues with the savefiles? Either way, I bet they'll have used the opportunity to fix all known bugs... Haven't gotten to play it myself yet, but won a signed copy of the game from the devs on Twitter 😁🎁

From memory it was more how you save. I played it once for about 4 hours and didn't realise you had to find save location points. So none of my progress was saved. I got the impression save points were infrequent. It should auto save as you progress.

Plus there were reported instances of saves being wiped clean.

Kosic2329d ago

Reading your reply below isn't a game fault. It's sadly a user fault. Classic RPGs have always used save crystals or world maps to save on.

I don't recall having a saving issue, but I also don't remember if they clearly pointed out the saving system in the game either.

Kosic2329d ago (Edited 2329d ago )

Earth lock was an alright game. But they had a planting system where you farm seeds of different elements and levels to deal that ability (fire lvl 2 etc).

I didn't need to use this planting system till later on. Till it was forced at a point in the story line. (Around 60% onwards)

The game was forgettable sadly. Even being excited after the kick starter pledge I made.
There are better RPGs out there. Will try it again after the released model.

bloodyspasm2329d ago

I think it possibly thrived more on Xbox One (I don't have stats, but I'll ask them) since that platform has fewer RPGs

That's where I first originally played this title. It was free with games with gold on release.

I’ve got it, never played it. Prey is a game I really wanted to like and it’s a game I really should have liked, everything about it is right up my street. But I just don’t know what it was but I just couldn’t stick with it.

How is it cool that a developer working in 2 projects were shut down?

Jingsing4h ago

He is being sarcastic because this is clearly another battle for N4G propaganda news article to try and filter out the bad Microsoft articles. It is ancient news.

@jingsing
Exactly mate I just wanted to be sarcastic.

We went over this month's ago. Great timing though considering all things going on these last few days.

Shts cute

This is the Microsoft defense force. They can't spin the current bad press in any coherent way, so all they can do is normalise the idea of studio shutdowns so that what Microsoft is doing seems completely normal as opposed to shambolic and a direct effect of bad decisions for the gaming industry. But hey, it's a cute attempt indeed.

Wake me up when Sony axes Housemarque after Returnal.

Then we'll talk.

Tacoboto2m ago

The industry is imploding and you people are obsessing over everything revolving around Microsoft.

Microsoft spent like 100bn on studios and all that proved is that the industry will *never* revolve around them.

Stop your obsession. Xbox is falling apart. EA is ushering in AI. Sony is restricting game sales to a few dozen countries. Square can't manage poop going down a clockwise toilet. Switch 2 is as close today as it was in 2020.

There are bigger things to worry about than "How can I spin this to be about Microsoft?" especially when now you're deflecting the first place platform maker's problems to still be related to those of a platform that hasn't been relevant in a positive light since 2021.

LOL! No comparison when it comes down to the big picture.

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

VenomUK5h ago

It was probably due to the half-hearted release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection v1.

Imagine the extra sales Konami could’ve made if it had put some effort into it.

SimpleDad7h ago

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.
