This could be really good... I like the concept of N letting third party devs, especially the more popular ones, make their games. They have amazing talent, and could breathe new life into old franchises. I'm sure N will be over their shoulders the entire time to ensure it still keeps the Nintendo feel.

guywazeldatatt2342d ago

Yeah it makes a 2018 release more likely

InTheZoneAC2341d ago

Really? As opposed to 2017, 2021, 2029?

guywazeldatatt2342d ago

For the record though I don’t buy it. This will make Sellars a superstar or infamous.

nintendoswitchfan2342d ago

Bamco does fighting games, why the hell would they be working on MP4, a first-person action/adventure game!? makes no sense. I call BS.

guywazeldatatt2342d ago

I don't disagree, but Bandai Namco is pretty decent. Regardless, if there's no reveal at the January Direct, no one will mention Sellars again.

The 10th Rider2341d ago (Edited 2341d ago )

They could always be helping with the grunt work while a Nintendo team handles most of the gameplay systems, etc . . .

Not necessarily saying that's what is happening, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

gangsta_red2341d ago

Namco has developed Nintendo games before as well as Capcom.

Namco, Capcom, Nintendo have a team known as the tri-force and they have each made games for Nintendo. Namco has also done the Mario Kart arcade edition so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

_-EDMIX-_2341d ago

Agreed

I was actually just going to say the same thing they actually have a pretty long history of working on Nintendo games, so I don't really see this as a surprise if true.

Tapani2341d ago

They also make RPGs, Action Adventures, Mech games and sports games. Miyazaki and From Software is cooking up something interesting and Bandai Namco publish their games every now and then, perhaps one of their projects is actually this?

About30Ninjas2341d ago

You here saying Bamco only does fighting games when they also made games like Dark Soul & The Witcher Series

iofhua2341d ago

From Software made Dark Souls
CD Project Red made The Witcher

_-EDMIX-_2341d ago

Namco Bandai help publish market and distribute The Witcher 3, they did not create it this is simply because CD projekt Red is a small independent developer they do not publish Market or distribute so they needed an assistance from a seasoned publisher in that area.

_-EDMIX-_2341d ago

Will you would have to understand that it would not be the first time they've worked with Nintendo to Outsource a game.

It might not make sense to you but it doesn't mean it's not true.

This again? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Nintendo confirm MP4 was being developed by a new in-house team? I could swear they said that right when they announced the game.

guywazeldatatt2341d ago (Edited 2341d ago )

it's in the article. Nintendo said that it was being developed led be the series producer and a brand new talented group of developers, but it never outright states that it's in-house. I'm not sure I believe this either but Sellars is intent on it and does know people. We'll really have to see. IMO if anything it would more be like they'd help out like Monolith helped out a little on Zelda; nothing to write home about. It would be huge IF there was a real trailer during the Direct in January though.

_-EDMIX-_2341d ago

I remember them mentioning a few key developers but I don't recall them ever confirming the team.

This would not be the first time that Nintendo has worked with Namco Bandai so it would not really be a shock if that's true.

Tazzy2341d ago

Hopefully it turns out to be good if its true Metroid Other M wasn't that good by Team Ninja.

Well that's an awesome and very surprising turnaround. Cheers to the new studio and what they'll build!

RaidenBlack9h ago

Likely to continue their FPS project

isarai7h ago

That's..... confusing, so shut down but just reformed and same employer 🤔 sounds like pretty much what happened to Japan Studio basically just being rebranded as Asobi

ocelot076h ago

It is odd one I don't know how business deals work or the law of that kind of stuff. But is it possible Sony reached out and said hey we want you apart of Sony but don't want to purchase you for what ever reason. How about use disband and we will open a studio and hire you guys type of thing. Is that even possible?

isarai6h ago

Maybe it's to void/bypass some contract? I have no clue

VersusDMC2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

I guess the deviation team fell apart and didn't deliver good progress on what they pitched (they overhyped themselves when the team was announced)so Sony shut them down. They regrouped with a new team and a new pitch so Sony is giving them another shot.

And this time they are keeping it quiet to keep pressure down on the team. So people aren't asking everyday what deviation(or whatever the new team is called) is doing.

Edit: Also Sony never owned them. They just ended their partnership with them. Deviation decided to close on their own.

outsider16241h ago

Good point. You know, i was thinking of Days Gone too. They pitch an idea to Sony for Days Gone 2 but Sony didnt like it do they scrapped the whole thing. Maybe if a good pitch came by...they'd reconsider it.

isarai59m ago

That makes a bit more sense

lodossrage25m ago

To be fair, Sony didn't shut them down. Devation was independent. Sony pulled funding on the project they were working on. As a result, they couldn't run so Devation decided to close on their own.

roboteye2h ago

If this was MS they'd be gone.

Goodguy011h ago

Maybe make a smaller game this time?

Elda1h ago

Good for them that they were able to work it out. Hopefully they're developing something interesting.

Rainbowcookie37m ago

I think Sony is thinking long term as a replacement for Call of Duty M$ edition.
