Greene: PUBG to "Run at 30FPS Across All Xbox One Devices", Including Xbox One X

PUBG will run at 30fps across all Xbox One devices, creator Brendan Greene has clarified.

threefootwang2357d ago

So you're leveling the playing field on console, alright fine.

But how is that fair when there's going to be crossplay available with PC?

Platinum_Fan2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that that people are trying to say this is a parity issue and not an issue that X just isn't 60 FPS hardware.

Greene himself said this implying that they tried to get 60 FPS.

"We’re constantly refining the game & exploring options to increase FPS,"

And Phil himself has in the past said there wouldn't be parity of this type between the consoles.

People in the 60 FPS thread tried to point out that the game has trouble maintaining high FPS even on powerful PC's and that they were surprised that consoles would be able to maintain 60 FPS. Now it seems like that has become reality.

LP-Eleven2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

Definitely puts a dent in the "Xbox One X is as powerful as most rigs" talk. The talk of refinement is key, because it sounds like they tried and it just wasn't efficient. For that, you need a powerful PC. My rig, as powerful as it is, saw some key frame drops here and there (and I'm above 60fps already). So I knew both Xbox consoles were going to struggle with it.

Obscure_Observer2357d ago

@Platinum_Fan

Lmao. Try harder. It´s parity i told. No MP game will run better on the X because it would break balance between the two consoles, giving X owners like myself a clear advantage. The same is and will be valid on PS4 as well.

Platinum_Fan2357d ago

@Obscure_Observer

Microsoft confirms no parity between Xbox one and Scorpio.

SierraGuy2357d ago

Vanilla Xbox 15fps. Haha

ProjectVulcan2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

Even fairly feeble desktop quad core CPUs from the past 5 years are vastly superior to the CPU in the new Xbox One X.

Battlegrounds is a demanding game on the CPU as you might expect and unless they compromise settings and resolution immensely then apparently they aren't getting 60FPS. It might be possible to get 60FPS at 1080p on Xbox One X hardware but that might be beyond the console if there just isn't the CPU performance required.

yeahokwhatever2357d ago

On the current implementation of PUBG, there's no way the XB1X is going to hit 1080p and a locked 60fps. Its gotta either be optimized or corners are going to have to be cut. If playing PUBG on the XB1X is not great, the XB1 users shouldn't even consider getting the game. It'll be like playing Lego Worlds on the Switch. Don't do it unless you have no other choice. I doubt the OG XB1 can even maintain a solid 30 without a flexible resolution and extreme optimizing measures implemented. eeek

DrumBeat2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

4K is the push, whether we like it or not. Not 60 fps. People aren't buying 60 fps televisions, they're buying 4K televisions. They're the rage. The only crowd that cares about 60 fps is the gaming community. Xbox One X was never meant to be a '60fps-across-every-title machine. That was just fanboy hype. Normal fans know the deal. Still, 60 is possible depending on the title and dev choice. It's a powerful console, but not THAT powerful.

They're not "leveling" anything, it says so in the tweet. The X just isn't capable for running it at 60, sorry.

PFFT2357d ago

And you know this for a fact right??? cause you are part of the development team and have worked with an xbox One X?? And have developed a game or two for the X right??

morganfell2357d ago

"And you know this for a fact right??? "

No. Are you blind? The dev said they were trying to get more FPS. The fact they don't have it should tell you everything. Now I guess you are going to say the PUBG devs are lying. Not that I think they are beyond such measures but jeesh, pick a side.

Automatic792357d ago

I look forward to playing anybody bring it on. Can't wait till this launches on Xbox.

UltraNova2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

Oh, you look forward playing PC gamers that have been playing this for months, at 60fps while using a mouse, a keyboard, probably better resolution and draw distances? Hmm ok more easy kills for the PC guys I guess.

DarkZane2357d ago

There won't be crossplay, the console version will always be behind the PC version in term of updates and content.

notachance2357d ago

it's not even about leveling the playing field, the dev is just sh*tty at optimizing the game, even some PC which can run Witcher 3 flawlessy struggled to get it run at 60 fps.

That's part why it's still on early access after all this time, so many bugs and optimizing left to do. Brendan Greene has quite the fine game design, but he need to hire better programmers.

Zeref2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

We console gamers need to get over this. I don't see anyone complaining about this on PC, If you want higher FPS get an Xbox One X or git gud.

UCForce2357d ago

Did you not hear that PUGB will run 30FPS all across Xbox Platforms ? That mean PUGB Xbox One X version will also run 30FPS same as Xbox One.

so I paid 500 for enhanced multiplayer games console and they're given me this? this is blaspheme !!! I'm cancelling my preorder.

Amplitude2357d ago

Oh man I feel really bad for you

mark_parch2357d ago

while i am still happy with my xbox one x this news pisses me off. if i pay $500 for a console i want the developers to utilize the hardware. i'm pretty sure most of the downvotes and people moaning are anti xbox and just don't want the xbox one x to shine. seems very strange they would confirm 60 fps on x and 30-40fps on s then after backlash from anti xbox gamers they're suddenly both 30fps lol

AdsShotta7862357d ago

no its not if people payed for a 500 dollar product and if players are on xbox one the xbox one x players should get the advantage e.g more fps

FITgamer2357d ago

Well that was a quick change of events.

Godmars2902357d ago

Really? Was it really? Or was it just MS SOP.

Gardenia2357d ago

It was kind of obvious. You can't have different frame rates in multiplayer games on the same consoles. That would be unfair for most players

mark_parch2357d ago

whats unfair is paying $500 for a console and the developers and microsoft not taking advantage of the hardware

cd12357d ago

@mark

I don't believe its the Devs not taking advantage of the HW, its the fact Jaguar CPUs aren't particularly powerful. I know MS went on about the "custom CPU" in XB1X in the E3 conf but fundamentally its still just a higher clocked Jaguar.

I don't blame MS or Sony for using AMD Jaguar tech btw, at the time of design of this gen they didn't have the best of options really. They could have installed a much more powerful CPU and discrete GPU but obviously wanted to use an AMD APU to keep costs down, I believe 60FPS will become far more common in the console space with the introduction of Ryzen...lets hope so anyway.

Not criticizing consoles btw, just stating facts - love my PS4 Pro!

Wtf was that article about yesterday?

G20WLY2357d ago

Still live AND top story though... Nice work N4G 👍

nowitzki20042357d ago

@G20WLY Caught red handed lol

Eonjay2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

Actually Microsoft never said it was 60FPS. This time it was WCCftech.com that jumped the gun. They literally made a clickbait title that disregarded the information in the article itself. These shitty sites are shitty. STOP listening to them. Read quotes, not clickbait.

Edit: There is an issue with them making a statement about the framerate with only 12 days to go. They should KNOW by now. That is suspiciously misstated by them.

Sm00thNinja2357d ago

How does this have ANYTHING TO DO WITH MICROSOFT?!?!

yomfweeee2357d ago

Eonjay they quoted Greene literally saying it would be 60fps, so don't blame the site.

"Definitely on Xbox One X, 60FPS. On Xbox One, we’re not sure. We may have to limit it at 30FPS, maybe, but the last time I saw it, it was running at about 30 to 40. We’re still constantly improving it so, you know, the aim is to get to 60. That’s why we’re doing Game Preview, because I think the great thing about console is it’s a locked hardware system, so we can do really specific tweaks that tune it for those systems."

Player Unknown, not MS.

What's funny is in the paragraph WCCFTech quoted Player Unknown starts by saying "Definitely on Xbox One X, 60fps" but then finishes by basically saying it's a maybe, "So we're aiming for 60; not sure if we'll get there, but that is our aim". How could it definitely be 60fps if it wasn't finalised and merely a target?

Condemnedman2357d ago

stop your bullshit you petty person

yeahokwhatever2357d ago

i think the "definitely 60" part was them stating their lofty AF goals. they're definitely shooting for 60. It's not going to be locked at 60. not even close.

ZeroX98762357d ago

the game is just badly optimized. be it PC PS or Xbox, this game is a resource hog. I'm hoping performance gets better on every platform as the game gets a full release.

LP-Eleven2357d ago (Edited 2357d ago )

Not "badly" optimized. There's no such thing. It's UN-OPTIMIZED that you're looking for. :P

And really, it's combo of both that and the feature-set is demanding.

Jinger2357d ago

@LP-Eleven

No reason to be a dick. Un-optimized, poorly optimized is all the same shit.

The game shouldn't be that demanding at all, but when a decent rig has to play on low just to hit 60fps solidly then its definitely not hardware.

LP-Eleven2357d ago

@ Jinger: I made it clear that I was being light-hearted about it. Don't ironically call people names while trying to be the Internet police. It's not becoming.

VER1ON2357d ago

@Eonjay Actually, it was Greene who said that in a recent issue of GamesTM. "Definitely on Xbox One X, 60FPS", he said. Wccftech just covered that quote.

G20WLY2357d ago

Maybe that's what he was pressured to try to achieve by Microsoft, but he couldn't do it with the hardware?

Just a theory, I've heard nothing to suggest that's true.

Nintendo confirms its commitment to physical games

In an era dominated by digital downloads and streaming services, the importance of physical media in gaming remains a topic of discussion.

Of course, Nintendo has always preferred physical sales, especially since they skew to a younger audience, and kids want games for their birthdays and holidays. They go to the store and pick the game they want.

Since the Wii they have always been the last major publisher to support modern tech or concepts, and they will be the last to support physical if it ever goes away. Which I hope it doesn't.

darthv7219h ago

Nintendo just likes sales in general. If they can sell digital more, they would because the 2nd hand market they do not get a cut of. For me, i tend to buy more physical switch games than I do other platforms. I do have my fair share of digital deals from the eshop though. Especially if its something that i have a sealed physical copy of and dont want to reduce its value.

Cacabunga19h ago

Then I know for sure who I will be supporting

neutralgamer199220h ago

OK, but you need better format where these games could actually fit instead of half of the game being in physical form and all I have being on a digital code or have to download

Hofstaderman19h ago

The one caveat with cartridges. If the leaks are true the internal storage stands at 256gb plus SD card support too.

franwex16h ago

You could have a 256gb card and a 10gb card. Publishers will simply use the 10gb one and make you download the rest.

Inverno19h ago

There are cards that can fit all of a game but those cost more, and publishers are cheap. It's weird cause with how much the switch has sold and how long it's been on the market the costs to manufacture these cards should've been much lower by now. It's a publisher issue cause there has only been very few exceptions on PS and Xbox, rest of the industry would rather force a download despite Blu-ray being cheap.

shinoff218318h ago

Your right. It's definitely a publisher issue. From my time collecting that's what I've come across. Just always remember

Doesitplay.org

Tell you everything you need to know about releases.

Flakegriffin16h ago

Pretty sure most, if not all, of Nintendo first party titles are all on cartridge. It’s the third parties.

Neonridr11h ago

that's on devs who opt for cheaper sized cartridges to save on manufacturing costs.
