$60 for a 6 year old game? Why VR’s Biggest Critics will never Understand Skyrim VR

One of the year’s most highly anticipated VR titles is nearly upon us, but there’s still plenty of doubters.

crazyCoconuts2382d ago

I half-reluctantly pulled the trigger on my Amazon pre-order yesterday. I don't have the time to dive back into that world but I guess I'm doing it anyway. Goodbye wife and kids...

lmao facts, but i'm going to wait until black friday sales. i'll be picking up this, nfs, shadow of mordor

FullmetalRoyale2381d ago

Maybe they’ll be a Black Friday bundulu?
One can only hope.

Venoxn4g2381d ago

As far as I know..Skyrim VR got sold out

C-H-E-F2381d ago

i'm getting downvoted for waiting a week to buy the game? LMAO so because I want to save 25$ they disagree...

@venox, I live in Atlanta, GA there's so many walmarts, targets, gamestops etc. it won't be sold out everywhere nothing is ever completely sold out here, even during the PSVR low shipments you could find atleast 1 somewhere within 20 miles.

kowan2381d ago

There is a black friday deal but I think it's only for the PSVR bundle. But it's really cheap. $350 for the whole bundle which includes The PSVR headset, 2 move controllers, the camera and the game. You're pretty much getting the game for free.

Huge open world game, well received by the gaming community, some gamers asked for a VR version and Bethesda is delivering.

Gamers like me have never played it. Yes, the game is old but the VR is not. If $60 is too much, wait for a sale. I do and quite often. Black Friday or Christmas might see it lower in price for the holiday season by the likes of Amazon or GameStop.

But those that don't have or played in VR can't really understand the difference and immersion VR gives you.

The_KELRaTH2381d ago

I think the price is just basically down to supporting such a small market - unfortunately I won't be enjoying VR as I'm blind one eye.

Honestly, the 60 dollars should be for individuals that don't own the game already, while an update should be made available to those that do. The climate is too crowded to justify spending $60 on Skyrim when new experiences are available. They'll be dropping this one quick, Mark my words. I love VR, but like the Switch, I will not be made to pay over what a game is worth. VR has been added to several games at no cost mind you, so Bethesda can learn from those companies.

Mr_Writer852381d ago

Where those games huge open world games with graphics that match Skyrim VR?

Or even match the hundreds of hours of potential gameplay?

I doubt it. Skyrim is a massive game that no doubt needed lots of work to not only get it working in VR. But also on a PS4!

They have to make their money back at least, and if it's a success it will encourage them and others to do more AAA games for VR.

The price is high, but if we want VR to stay and improve there are some games that need to be supported.

Skyrim VR is one of them.

IamTylerDurden12381d ago

U simply don't understand the process it took to convert Skyrim into a fully playable VR title. The game has to be reworked entirely for VR and for a VR control scheme. Also, this is the first AAA open world rpg we have gotten in VR (PSVR). This is a big deal, a hundred hour open world fantasy rpg with real combat and movement 100% playable in VR. Ppl love Skyrim, but to actually step into the world is a whole new level of immersion. What other VR game can offer you what Skyrim can? I just don't understand why ppl are against Skyrim VR, it makes no sense. If it's not worth the price then don't buy it.

leeeroythe3rd2381d ago

No offense but full price for this game is stupid. Vr needs good software to attract market. Psvr is not a long term platform but will set stage for the next wave of more robust vr headsets. Failure to capture not only sales but consumer use is a must to a new market. Repackaging games that most have played with expectations to sell at greater than market value not only hurts software sales but reduces adoption of vr and consumer usage vs other platforms

Ittoittosai2381d ago

9 downvotes for a justified statement. Yep we are on N4G

generic-user-name2381d ago

Justified how? Looks to me like he said a lot of stupid things.

1. "Full price is stupid" No it's not.
2. "VR needs good software to attract market" Yeah, and those software creators need to make cash so they can continue to make good software.
3. "PSVR is not a long term platform" This one hurt my eyes.
4. "Failure to capture not only sales but consumer use is a must to a new market." Literally gibberish
5. "Repackaging games that most have played with expectations to sell at greater than market value..." Greater than market value? This guy is implying that no additional value was added by Bethesda transitioning this title for VR play. They even brought in a new studio to help them bring it to VR.

Overall his comment was trash and deserves more than 9 downvotes imo and so do you for calling it 'justified'.

Mr_Writer852381d ago

@generic

Now THAT is a justified statement.

VR needs games, it won't get games if they don't make money. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

IamTylerDurden12381d ago

Skyrim VR is very important for VR as a whole, we need AAA devs to bring their games to VR. Building full AAA games from the ground up is not reasonable for VR right now, the install base simply isn't big enough to support the budget. So the only way we are currently going to get full AAA games in VR is if a dev reworks their game for VR. It gives AAA devs valuable experience working with VR and gives VR owners a scale and production value they never would've got otherwise. It's a good thing.

WelkinCole2381d ago

Game everyone already played? How many copies it sold? 30 million? If so then there are way more people that have not played it.

Skankinruby2381d ago

All those millions of people gladly paid 60 dollars for GTA 5 twice and they got no flack for that and it was almost the exact same game. This is a full length game remade for vr they should definitely charge full price at launch.

BLAKHOODe2381d ago

Make GTA 5 in VR and I would happily pay full price a 3rd time.

Skankinruby2381d ago

Precisely the reason GTA 6 probably won't even come out this gen
