The Bioshock port to the PS3 has reopened the can of worms that is developing on the PS3. GamerChip looks at the future of gaming on the console and sees that the problems are set to continue.

I knew all of those things. I'll add one that many dont know (if you are a hardware person you do). you CAN actually swap bluray drives between systems. The drives themselves are interchangeable but the board that interfaces is not. So anyone who has a dead optical drive can just get a replacement and swap the interface board and be back to reading discs in no time. I've had to do this myself on both a 20gb B01 as well as a 40gb L01 unit.
you can also replace the spinning hdd with an SSD for improved (not life changing) performance as well as quieter and cooler system reliability. The physical spinning drives draw more current and generate heat as a result. Using an SSD means no moving parts and thus will have less current draw and reduced fan noise from not having to spin as much as usual to offset any heat generated by the spinning hdd.
Still one of my favorite Playstations next to the Playstations that came before it and after it.
Backward compatibility works for many games on newer consoles, but titles such as The Simpsons: Hit and Run have been left out.
From base building to swinging willies, here are the best survival games around, which include a couple of less than obvious picks.
its only a rocky ride if you jump on.... while i want to play this i think it will be a renter until i see if they did well enough to justify buying a game thats over a year old and of better quality on a cheaper system.
Yeah. The developers will learn their lesson once they see the "rocky" sales.
Yeah, because the silky smooth frame rate of Wipeout HD really is rocky. :(
If the PS3 was the lead platform or if Bioshock was developed specifically for each platform then the issues with Bioshock on PS3 probably wouldn't be so much of an issue.
I think that the majority of 3rd party developers have come to grips with the PS3's hardware, because the most of the really bad ports were last year on the PS3 because developers were still getting used to the PS3's tech, but this year it's been mostly the opposite.
Plus, if there will be any issues with PS3 games in the future, more than likely it will be 3rd party games, and I don't buy many 3rd party games in the first place.
When it comes to 1st party PS3 games, or exclusives, the development of those games will be fine and for the most part there is no "Rocky Ride" when it comes to 1st party and 2nd party PS3 development because if Insomniac could push out Resistance 2 in just 2 years while releasing a new Rachet game last year, I think it's safe to say that development on the PS3 for them and most Sony 1st and 2nd party devs. is a breeze. The game development of PS3 exclusives is what really matters to me the most though.
Typical gamerchip article. Enjoy your hits.
