People don't buy high end parts just to play games unless they want high performance. The average user on Steam does not use the parts you claim to have.

This double talk of not worrying about performance and exclusives on the PC but to only focus on exclusives for consoles does not make much sense. You can't have it both ways and then express you are talking about other gamers needs.

Again I buy consoles for exclusives that I like and PC for all types of games. Nintendo and Sony has a few games that I like. As for Xbox I'm not saying I don't like their games but I can play those games on my PC and a lot more games on Steam and it's not just because of graphics. Maybe if Xbox had Xbox only exclusives then I'll purchase one. No reason for me to purchase one atm.

Where did I suggest you buy an Xbox One X? I said you cannot speak on behalf of others just because you spent money on your PC for performance. Which you did because nobody buys those PC parts and then tells others they don't care about performance when it's conveninent in a topic about the PS4 Pro versus the Xbox One X. There are a lot of gamers out there who don't want to invest in a powerful PC but want a powerful platform to play games on.

So do us all a favor and stop generalizig that your needs apply to everyone and the change those needs when it's convenient. The Xbox One X offers great power for far less to get that same performance on a PC and has lots of games to play. This topic isn't about what you think about exclusives and then throwing the PC in there for good measure. It is about the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Not the PS4 Pro plus a decent PC compared to the Xbox One X. Of course having two platforms versus one would be better. Is that really going to be your argument moving forward each time there are topics comparing the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X? If that's the case then Microsoft outdid themselves creating such a powerful console that it's critics say a PS4 Pro and a PC is a better option.

All of the PC gamers hype up our systems around here, didn't you know that? This is a problem I've noticed...if you are a PC gamer and have a above average PC you are automatically bragging about it and shoving it in console gamers faces that you're better than them. That's basically most of N4G's mentality.

Any comment I make where I even so mention that I have a 6700K/GTX 1080 PC (like as if it's some insane thing) I get instant downvotes because I'm bragging or showing off or "we get it you have a PC!". The PC envy around here is VERY strong. Especially now that console gamers are a little more educated about tech this generation and really know how much better PC is technologically and feature set.

You have to get the right equipment which you probably don't have, you'll need a 4K swim 3 lnb and the c61k clients which you probably don't have. New accounts are getting it installed for free now days. You just need to upgrade you equipment.

There actually isn't enough bandwidth in the broadcast TV(cable or over the air) spectrum to support it right now, and many spectrums of such delivery(like internet, TV, microwave, etc) are filling up fast.

4K has been around for a while, it just seems to have a very slow adoption and standardization period, the last three or so years were the years "4K is really going to take off this year". And yet, the prices are only becoming reasonable now, content is still lacking (4k Blu Ray seems to be the best bet so far and probably Netflix in the future) and features are still being standardized (e.g. Dolby Vision).

The phrase "console exclusive" to me is a weak excuse and both Sony and Microsoft should stop using it. Microsoft might as well just put on all their first party cover art. Not available on PS4 or Switch. Because that is all it means. Same with Nioh and Nier for PS4. Not available on Xbox or Switch.

Not quite, we can barely manage 4k as it is, maybe next gen it'll be more feasible, but I don't think it'll happen until after that one. At the moment you generally have to make compromises to reach 4K for it to be reasonably playable.

The mere fact that the One X includes a UHD player is a huge plus for them. This holiday season more and more people are going to be purchasing 4K sets as adoption rates are starting to take off now that these sets are more affordable. You could go out and spend a few hundred dollars on a UHD player (if you care about native 4k content vs compressed, streamed stuff (ie Netflix)) or you could spend marginally more and get a good games console in addition.

To me, that is a huge selling point.

The UHD is not a huge plus for them. It may be a huge plus for you, but movies in physical media form is a dying market, with sales dropping double digit percentages year over year. Sure, it'll be great for those who DO want it, but let's not pretend that it's more than a tiny minority. Furthermore, dedicated players are rapidly dropping in price anyway.

Still, the Xbox One X is made for people that do care about audiovisual fidelity, so you could say the UHD player is a huge plus in the context of a "4k debate".

I agree, but all the major new movies are releasing 4K versions each and every week. Even Disney just jumped on board with all the Marvel movies now releasing in 4K as well.

Sure players are getting cheaper, but the fact that for a few hundred dollars more you can get a dedicated games machine as well is a huge plus for those on the fence about buying a player anyways. I fully get that I am not the majority as plenty of people are perfectly fine with Netflix or Youtube in 4K and they feel that they are getting a good enough picture and sound.

I have invested too much money in my home theatre to use compressed videos when I am given the choice between the two.

UHD Blu-ray for Xbox One S did exactly what it says on the tin. The Xbox One S plays UHD Blu-rays.

It doesn't play them "against the ps4 slim", but that's obviously an abstract fanboy way of assessing the functionality.

Sorry, but I think UHD isn't as popular or as enticing as some people believe. The discs are expensive, and there really aren't that many of them. The stand alones are getting cheaper. There is more 4K content through streaming than through UHD.

In any case, 4K TV's are still a small part of the overall TV market. There isn't some current mass migration, and 4K isn't as much incentive as HD was back in the day.

Despite my comments above, I have some UHD discs. They're quite nice. I have a stand alone player I brought early in the year for $150(open box model). Works nice, and is actually better than the X1S from what I've seen.

But I'm willing to spend $25-30 on a movie that I know I'll watch more than once. I do enjoy the better picture, and will likely soon invest in an updated receiver for Atmos or better Dolby sounds....despite my other one being relatively new(stupid 4K standards).

I however think that physical movie sales are on the decline, and such extravagances aren't common among the consumer. I'm more of the kind of person who enjoys higher quality for movies, video, and audio when it comes to A/V entertainment (not as much in games ironically). I think the vast majority would be more willing to buy the Blu-Rays for $10-15 than the $25-30 UHD's though, and the Blu-Rays look really good on a decent 4K TV.

The only thing you need to upgrade for Atmos is the front high channel speakers if you have the rest which are decent or good....if you want the high channels that is. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother spending extra for a speaker just because they slap a logo on it. Same with THX, as it's the standard that is more important to follow, over spending extra for that licensed logo. You can actually get really good speakers and save a lot of money by just getting what sounds good to you, and a lot of the higher end speakers don't even bother with such licenses anymore. Many good speakers still fall within the standards of THX, and a lot of recievers nowadays handle the crossover aspects without much thought....or you can set it up to do so(mostly just the base cutoff for the front channels in this case).

Personally, when I get an Atmos enabled receiver, I'll have the front highs, but will likely use the side channels more because I find that to be more impressive for most media....particularly games in a 3D world as the surround channels are more defined.

For reference, I found the new Wonder Woman movie on UHD to be a fantastic way to show off your sound system. Lots of good highs and lows. Nice action scenes with good moderation of the bass. Lots of good little details to the background sound in the game which make it pretty immersive. And a very good attention to the audio track so it never gets washed out to the rest of the soundtrack....which is way to typical nowadays. As a plus, i think it's one of the better super-hero movies.

If you spend a little extra on the receiver You won't need to choose between side channels and height channels. Atmos works on pretty much any number of channels, you just need a receiver that supports them.

I have a Marantz SR6011 and I'm running 7.1.2 at the moment. I actually have 2 more Atmos speakers being delivered today, so I'll be testing out 7.1.4 this evening :)

The PS4 in general has been selling well but analysts are saying the one x specifically will outsell the PS4 pro specifically. Obviously no one can see the future but I own the pro and I’ve played the one x and the one x is definitely the superior machine and for people who want premium 4k products like myself, the one X is just better equipped. It runs silky smooth and the upp’d graphics are definitely noticeable. I truly believe the one x will get Xbox on a better track. It’s just hard not to get excited about the machine when you play it and devs really appreciate the power - look at the comparisons already. Graphics specifically don’t sell games but the hype and excitement from the devs is real and contagious and that was very present at e3 when I was there.

Couple that with all the game services that Xbox has now, along with backward compatibility for now 2 generations of games, some exclusives that were extremely well received plus 4k bluray and atmos. Literally the only thing the Pro has to to compete on are exclusives. Considering about one out of every 20 releases is an exclusive, you have to realize that those other 19 games will be better on the one x. And that’s assuming the one exclusive is amazing. Not every exclusive is a 10. In fact the last 2 PS4 exclusives are sitting in the 70s on MC while tons of multiplats are scoring better so that argument isn’t so cut and dry.

Most gaming console consumers are casuals & they could care less about souped up 4k graphics especially if they don't own a 4k tv which most folks don't & if they're buying for their kid there's no way their going to spend 500 dollars on a console.The XBOX is a nice upgrade but imo I see only the hardcore fanatics buying it only,there are still pre-orders at Gamestop.If XB had some great interesting XBO exclusives out now where the X could showcase those games they may possibly get a slew of new adopters that are tech savvy.PS4 has taken over this gen & I doubt if the X will change it.

MS has had their services for a while now, why would that make the X1X more appealing. If the services were important enough, wouldn't the regular X1 be selling better, and not be on a YOY decline?

PS4 sales are going up. By your reckoning, all it has to compete is more impressive exclusives. If that's all they have to compete, doesn't that indicate that maybe that's what's more important?

You seem to forget that Sony also has it's own services, and they don't get a major focus in the marketing. PSVue is by far their most advertised service, and it's marketed outside the regular PS as a gaming platform marketing. For those that want those services, they'll find a way to get them, and they'll always weigh price vs desire for said services.

Tons of multi-plats score or sell well, and Sony exclusives can score within a range of scores. Yet despite the score of mid-70's for GTS, it still seems to be quite popular, thus once again, the exclusives mean something, because likely, we'll see soon that that game drove console sales.

I genuinely feel sad and joy when I see a xbonex commercial. Sad this company thinks this brand is relevant, sad that they advertise 3rd party multiplatform games knowing they don't have their own and joy that it couldn't happen to a more disconnected company.

I think MS is well aware of what people are saying about them. It's obvious in the way they address the community, and they made it plenty apparent they know people think they're lacking exclusives this past E3.

To that end, I think they feel they can divert from this criticism through the use of misdirection which actually avoids talking about what is really holding them back this gen. They mostly talk about the positive, and make vague statements to address the crticisms they receive. Things like X1X seem more like a desperate attempt to get attention because their games weren't doing it. Obviously there was more to why they're doing it, but the marketing itself seems squarely focused on enticing people with things which aren't as important to the mass consumer as the extremist in their own fan base seem to believe it is.

To me, the resolution debate this gen, or even the power stuff, was nowhere near as big of a thing as it was made out to be, and I find both the mid-gens to be redundant with no real purpose to actually drive gaming forward in any way due to the legacy support mandate at a licensing level. MS seems way too focused on this aspect though, and to me that is why I feel the X1X isn't going to strike the chord with the mass market, and even the niche market, the way that many seem to think it will.

In some ways I wish Sony had one more strong exclusive to compete with this Holiday to make a comparison. Yes you can get COD:WW, Battlefront 2 and Assassin's Creed Origins on PS4 and Pro. But you can also get those on Xbox One X. And I don't think GTS was the answer to pull buyers in because there is also Forza. But if Sony had God of War, Days Gone, or Spiderman ready and bundled and avertised well then people will clearly see that unique title isn't on Xbox One at all. So that's why this is a huge test. Sony is resting on their lorals. The big hardware pieces are already out. I would hope the new VR headset is out before the holidays but we'll see. Price drop too maybe? Price drop, even temporary on PS4, and Pro and select games? We shall see. Microsoft has potential though.

I don't think exclusives are going to be a big selling point this holiday either way. I'm surprised Sony doesn't have more for the holiday due to the X1X release, and their biggest release is GT:S right now, and even a DLC, compared to some prior years.

But I think Sony does have more announced right now to look forward to over X1, which is going to help them a lot more in the long run. Having all those major marketing deals is going to be a help to them as well.

it's at a point where Sony is just marketing the games to sell the system, and the PS4P doesn't get near the marketing dollars, while MS is focusing most of it's marketing attention on this "more power" concept. It's going to be interesting to see which resonates more with the market.

What's funny is I've never once seen you address any sound logic to any counter-argument of yours.

As of yet, all of the X1X's "wins" have been untested in how they will actually affect the market, thus it's unknown how those will factor into the success of the system, particularly in comparison to another system.

Way too often I see so many singular things attributed to what will make a system successful, and these insular wins being the defining feature of why one thing will make it more popular than a competitor....usually when the competition lacks said feature....and to date, I believe that those assertions are usually wrong. There are multiple factors which play into a systems success or failure, but ultimately, appealing games is the best place to start.

As far as people not acknowledging facts, I can name several occasions where I've called you out on your lack of technical knowledge that you pass off as fact...often even saying it's fact...where you neither reply, or put your hands over their ears and say "lalalalala", so maybe curb the judgement of others for something you aren't guilty of doing yourself.

PlayStation will be on top because it caters to everyone and has many different experiences, from FPS to JRPG and everything inbetween. They have top notch 1st party studios 2nd and 3rd party and Japanese support. Hardware is only one part of the equation and PlayStations hardware is good for this gen , Xbox upgraded to early and gave up on Xb1 before it ever got going, they are just confusing people with their lack of direction and games. Because MS has a long history of being hated on PC. Sometimes deserved, other times just because it became a cultural thing to do so. Some people don't even know why they hate MS, but a lot of the reasons why people hate them, for those that know why at least, often are because of something MS did, or still does.

PC users use Windows because that's where all the software support is. That's due to their dominance in the market. It's fine to hate the company if there is real reason to do so, but most people actually want to be able to use their PC, and most of the alternatives for anyone who cares more than just the bare bones stuff, has no other choice. Some use other systems out of principal, but ultimately, they don't make up anywhere near enough users to actually affect MS dominance.

Xbox One X should outsell the Pro by a large margin. The jump from X1 to the X is just bigger and the console is more future proof. Heck, a lot of 360 owners still havent made the jump and beeing able to play 3 generations of Xbox on one Console plus the best versions of every game together with a 4k bluray is just a no brainer.

Currently, the PS4pro sells at 20% of all PS4 sales which are approximately 16 million since November 2016 to September 2017 so you are looking at approximately 3.2 million PS4pro's sold (give or take say -15% to +5%).

For the XB1x to outsell the PS4pro within a year it would have to be selling well over 50% of all XB1 sales and considering that the XB1 sales are half that of PS4 sales that is very unlikely especially since the XB1 will be anything from $200 to $250 USD cheaper than the XB1x. If anything the XB1slim is the XB1x's worst enemy.

Over the Christmass/Holiday period, I do think the XB1x will outsell the PS4pro although not by a huge margin.

To appreciate 4K visuals you really need a 4K TV and for the majority of people worldwide the uptake of 4K will be slow especially since 8K is out now and although expensive it will drop in price to the point where 4K is sidelined. I will give that 2 to 3 years.

Sure if you are a dedicated gamer or love watching UHD movies then 4K will have an appeal but the main TV (ie. standard TV shows) content today is usually in 720p and standard definition with some 1080p for some channels. There is no clear advantage of having a 4K TV when watching the majority of content available today although that is changing it will be sometime before that happens.

I'm sticking to the console that can play my favourite games. It doesn't matter to me how the new Ni no Kuni would look on the X, because it won't be on the X. PS4 will dominate this console gen but when it comes between PS4 pro vs. Xbox One X in power I will go with X1X but anyone who wants power this far in the gen if they are starting fresh would definitely choose PC. I think it's completely disingenuous to suggest you can divorce the mid gen consoles from the base models when discussing their potential.

The fact is, the Pro and the 1X will sell to existing fans for the most part. Existing Xbox fans will buy the XB1X so it doesn't really matter how successful it is as it is not growing MS's market share anyway.

I think it all depends on choice. The ps4 pro is a definitive upgrade over the ps4 og. it may not be the most powerful console out there after the x box one x comes out but I think its good. I would personally choose the ps4 pro over xbox one x just cause I grew up with playstation and it has the games I like. But it varies person to person. plus in terms of exclusive games xbox seems to be lacking. I'm not sure but I think the last exclusive xbox had was halo 5 excluding gears of war n forza cause u can get them on pc if u can.

After seeing those gorgeous screenys of games on the X it clearly is ahead and ritely so, not saying the ps4 pro is bad in anyway as it isn't.

While ps4 May of had the start it certainly is looking like ms could wrap the end of the generation with the icing on the cake and what is wrong with one bringing the cake ie Sony and then ms bring the iceing, absolutely nothing at all.

Well, without question the X will be able to do more games in 4k than the Pro. That will help drive sales especially for those who mostly play third party games... Now, "if" MS comes out with some new, high end AAA exclusives that will gain them even more market share. MS is in a good position with the X, they just have to keep making good decisions from here on out. Not much room for mistakes.
