Square Enix has announced today that Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope Remaster will release worlwide on November 28th. Developed in partnership with tri-Ace, STAR OCEAN: THE LAST HOPE takes place at the beginning of the STAR OCEAN series timeline. This remaster will feature 4K support and PC keyboard, mouse and controller support.
Star Ocean is one of those series that did, and still does, things that others don’t. Think of it as a JRPG for fans of series like Star Trek. The casts regularly involve people from more advanced civilizations getting involved with those who are still growing, even though there are various measures in place to allegedly stop that sort of interference. As a result, people get energy weapons, cyborgs, magic and people who can turn into cats. It is a lot to take in.
Let's see here. There was another classic JRPG series that started this SCI Fi. It was Phantasy Star by Sega. Before Star Ocean, there was Phantasy Star 1-4 on Sega consoles

Yeah, that plot twist didn't work for me. I wish SO3 isn't canon, but it is. Anyway, SE can just sweep SO3 under the rug perhaps by soft rebooting the franchise.
The first two were so great, among the top RPGs on 16 and 32-bit era. I wonder why it went downhill after that...
Play the PS1 game and then the PS2 game and then the rest probably aren't worth your time unless you're a superfan of the series. I think that's all you need to know.
Not all JRPG party members are created equal. In fact, some are downright useless. Lets take a look at some of the worst examples of the genre.

I would put Kimhari (FF X) in the list as everyone around him was great.
Totally, the way he started his sphere grid and his roadmap was all over the place at first, eventually everyone leveled out the same more or less, but at first he was one of the Lesser ones, even stranger when he should have been a physical power house on looks alone.
I already know Irvine being in this picture is click bait. Anyone who knows the glory of Pulse Ammo and his limit break knows better. Now I literally just finished platinuming FF7 and ohhh Cait Sith I still can’t believe that crappy character existed.
That impossible character existed.
Its that a remote controlled mascot, who is actually a spy that turns against his boss, while going around the world while apparently never leaving whatever enemy base he's at, that breaks any notion of narrative believe-ability, that made me realize that the FF franchise would only get worse telling stories, and it did.
(Though, actually it was FF8 - the whole party has F***ing amnesia! AND THEN THE GODDAMN TIME LOOP! USING MAGIC IN AN ANTI-MAGIC PRISON!! ***THAT THEY'RE FIGHTING A MAGIC USER BUT CAN GENERATE AN ANTI-MAGIC FIELD THE SIZE OF A PRISON!!!!*** )

Star Ocean series even if not so popular like Final Fantasy it still have many dedicated fans. Latest announcement of PS4 / PC HD and 4K remaster should make many of us happy. With very first gameplay trailer showing game running at the highest resolution we can also compare it to original powered by Xbox 360. How do you like the upgrade?
Square Enix cares not for porting this to Xbox One, which has an iterative console all about that 4K 😂
On another note I do not want to see the horror that is Lymle in any higher resolution. That girl's uncanny face is the stuff of nightmares.
The original Nier or Nier: Automata?
If it's the former it probably wouldn't happen for the same reason this remaster isn't on Xbox One.
If it's the latter, Square Enix already discussed why this wouldn't happen

This Star Ocean 4 remaster will cost the exact same as Star Ocean 3 does as a PS2 Classic on PS4.
