TSA writes: "Perhaps one of my biggest disappointments with PlayStation VR is the dearth of racing games for the platform. While the base PlayStation 4 can handle racing games at 1080p and 60fps – optimisation and scope not withstanding – that hasn’t translated to racing game developers pushing all their games onto PSVR, presumably lacking the necessary overhead to accommodate an increased demand."
On the day that Gran Turismo Sport’s online services are switched off for good, a reflection on how impactful the game was for the sim racing industry.
fantastic game
innovative match making with player ettiquite tasked into account
GT7 improves on it with:
all the same tracks + loads more tracks
all the same cars + loads more cars
improved / new physics
dualsense support + haptics for road bumps
improved lighting + weather changable mid race
much more vast one player races, challenges, leagues etc.
more of an iteration than a revelation, but what they improve, they have improved so drastically it is deffo worth getting.
GT Sport, like Gran Turismo 7, requires internet to save. But now that its servers are going dark, that requirement is being removed.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has delisted Gran Turismo Sport from the PlayStation Store as of January 1, 2024.
The great digital future. Where games vanish. The benefits of digital just aren't enough over physical to every buy in 100 percent. Especially when my Atari games still work and can be played to this day over 40 years later. Some of these digital games don't even last a whole generation.
Online based titles like this I wouldn't expect to last forever as the game has been updated iterations as in gt7
Same with if FIFA 20 was delisted as example there's update to game. If something like Uncharted collection was delisted then that's something that's bad
You pay stupid money for digital games and DLC, then it goes missing. Who's laughing?
"Of course, were Sony not so strict over there being no divide in features between PS4 and PS4 Pro, the more powerful console might be able to support more cars on track with its more powerful CPU."
PS4 Pro owners are now feeling the pressure of the regular PS4.
"However, getting the entirety of GT Sport to work with PlayStation VR has seemingly not been possible, to the extent that it almost feels like an unwanted obligation for it to be included and Kazunori Yamauchi sounds disappointed in what they’ve been able to achieve."
I think it's the same thing Sony did with Heavy Rain and used thast studio to try and push Move controls as an obligation. Project Cars 2 is also on the PS4 but no VR support. It's great Sony managed to create a more afgordable price entry for VR but the limitations are becoming more and more visible when they can't even get their top developers to do a proper VR mode. No online racing with it either.
It's very clear that PS4's hardware just isn't powerful enough to fully realize virtual reality and Gran Turismo. Now that Sony is publishing games on Steam, they should let Polyphony reach their full potential.
