Gran Turismo Sport is HDR's killer app

DigitalFoundry: "Gran Turismo Sport is due imminently! We took a look at this week's demo and were impressed with the improvements over prior betas. Performance is improved and the HDR implementation is so good, we decided to build a video around it."

PS3 graphics with HDR...so what?

2399d ago
AspiringProGenji2399d ago

You are complementing the PS3 more than you think with that comment

UCForce2399d ago

You can't blame Digital Foundry. Because the lighting effect in GT Sports is significant improve over GT 5 and GT 6. The car model is look premium model. The game looks more realistic this time around.

Xerneas2399d ago

"So what you are saying is that PS3 graphics looks better the forza7?"

I've never played F7, stop deflecting and stay on GTS.

"Dayum son, PD really are wizards. Just waiting for those sweet sweet sales figures of GTS compared to F7, so I can enjoy more tears of the likes of you."

Less than 50% of the amount of content than its predecessors, no proper career mode, no dynamic weather, always on DRM, cardboard audience...the issues are many. All your comment serves is the best proof yet that PD can just sell toilet gold and you guys will praise it without question, and cannot tolerate criticism.

AspiringProGenji2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

there's the way you see things, then there's the way things actually are. Now do something better for your life instead of hating this game

- No dynamic weather? There's still weather thought
- No proper career mode? There's still an actual career mode and there's campaign that teach you to have a successful...um... career!!
- Always on DRM? This is not a DRM game since you can play offline
- Less than 50% of the amount of content ? Who did the math? You? I hope not...

Are these issues? More like YOUR issue. Probably the cardboard audience is an issue but I haven't seen that myself yet

Eonjay2399d ago

You seem very invested in tearing down this game and the people who like playing it. If you are trying to understand what Digital Foundry is stating, just rematch it until you understand and do some research on how HDR can enhance visual presentations. The general consensus is that they focused on quality of quantity, and embraced a new model with FIA that faces are embracing and enjoying. Like you I am not a fan of always online, but having played it, I can vouch for its high production value, smooth races and amazing detail, polish and lighting. Its a real treat and nothing that you mentioned detracts from that. Its a net positive all the way around. I encourage you to try it.

2399d ago
UCForce2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Here the thing, GT Sports will get low reviews than Forza Motorsport 7 for lacking of those features. Do I think they deserve to get criticized ? Yes, but I don't think they are going to make GT 7. The only way to bring back a proper single player mode, that would be GT Sports 2.

Edit : GT Sports is not PS3 graphics. It is more than that. You do have criticism but way too much and unbalanced. Too much criticism turn into toxic. I rather prefer optimistic and criticism at the same time. Like I said before, too much skepticism will make you a toxic and too much optimism will make you blind.

Xerneas2399d ago

@Aspiring

"No dynamic weather? There's still weather thought"

"No proper career mode? There's still an actual career mode and there's campaign that teach you to have a successful...um... career!!"

At least it has something...anything... you're just reaching.

"Less than 50% of the amount of content ? Who did the math? You? I hope not... "

Did you forgot what GT5 and 6 were like? I hope not.

"there's the way you see things, then there's the way things actually are. Now do something better for your life instead of hating this game "

Oh, right, you just cannot tolerate criticism. Exactly.

"Like you I am not a fan of always online, but having played it, I can vouch for its high production value, smooth races and amazing detail, polish and lighting. Its a real treat and nothing that you mentioned detracts from that."

Amazing detail...polish...did you just upgrade to a PS4 yesterday? It looks worse than the average major PS4 game. Amazing detail...good freaking lord.

Xerneas2399d ago

"But your post history proves that you are nothing but an xbox fanboy posting filth about Sony and PS4. So stop posting utter crap like 'ps3 graphics' and people will start taking you more seriously. "

If you even read my post history you would see some positives. Particularly the driving controls, the lighting, the car exteriors, the UI, these the game got right. Of course there's more, but there are more issues than what I brought up here, like invisible freaking walls...

"Says the cheerleader of MTs, loot box galore forza. Hilarious. Funny I am not seeing any criticism of these pathetic practices in your post history."

Oh no im not buying the game new, just like I'm not buying Shadow of War new, and not buying Battlefront II at all. These are issues that seriously bother me, no matter what game it is. Not supporting predatory business inspired game designs.

Hope you're a little less agitated now that I said something negative about that God damn evil Xbox.

UCForce2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

The problem with you is not a troll. The problem is your skepticism is way too much. Do you really think I'm not aware ? Of course, I do. But this is N4G, you can't trust everyone, so you blame me and others. Watch Digital Foundry video again if you think GT Sports is a PS3 graphic. Everything have been significant improve over GT 5 and GT 6. The problem with GT 5 and GT 6 was performance issues, lack of lighting effect and more. Those are completely revamped and more polished. NXGamer will come next and he has positive things to say GT Sports.

S2Killinit2399d ago

@Xerneas
Dude it looks better than Forza 7. No Microtransactions, just beautiful racing all day. And no hats on your car.

2399d ago
Eonjay2399d ago

GT Sport doesn't have microtransactions so you should be good and I think this is more on the lines of something you would like to support for the industry. No worries.

KingTrash2399d ago

Exactly! I played it on the Pro last night and the HDR does look great. Nothing else does though. Forza 7 in 1080p dumps all over this game.

Xerneas2399d ago

@SaqlainMushtaq

I did...right here

http://n4g.com/news/2109870...

"Without any kind of criticism about MTs and loot crates. Guess we can all see how full of shit you actually are."

And I posted in that linked thread without any praise about Forza. Again I haven't played Forza 7, so when I do I will point out flaws. I got to know them first. It's your problem that you can't tolerate criticism against your beloved game.

AspiringProGenji2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

“PS3 graphics with HDR” is not criticisms and it is not true. I wouldn’t call anything you say as “criticisms” especially when you call out anyone who doesn’t agree with your “criticism.”

The game will do well and if that annoys you then you will have ro suck it up. Now proceed to call us out for buying the game too. I will wait for that while you droll over F7 graphics as your comments history shows

2399d ago
butchertroll2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Cardboard audience. Yes, on some tracks. But how about this one :

https://abload.de/img/gts2m...

I see live audience, not cardboard. LOL

Gran Turismo is NOT an always online title. Only "Sport" section is online, because, it so obvious, you racing online. Arcade, Campaign etc. is offline.

Quote :
"Less than 50% of the amount of content ?

GTS will have decent amount of free DLC in near future ( free of course ). Remember Driveclub. Game was bare bones at the beginning. Just month later ( who bought a season pass ) first DLC came. And support in next 1 year was sooooo great.

freshslicepizza2399d ago

Nice to see we quickly went from who needs a midcycle upgraded console, to it will be years before 4K becomes popular, to GT Sport being the killer HDR title.

Artemidorus2399d ago

Yet it still looks better than Forza 7 and more affordable, a clear winner.

Dark_Knightmare22399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Man you know if you're going to troll you have to make it somewhat believable. What you just did was try way too hard and in the process you looked like a real dumbass. You didn't make anyone mad or fall for your stupidity all you did was give people a laugh or eye roll as they downvoted you and moved on. Get better at it or give up because being a troll is pathetic enough but when you are as bad at it as you are it just makes it even worse

Resolution is just a number. HDR is an experience that must be seen to be appreciated. HDR is stunning in games like HZD, Gears 4, FM7 and now GTS. HDR will be the one to help move 4k screens more so than just 4k itself.

Eonjay2399d ago

This is true because it allows the artwork to really pop with realistic contrasts between shadows, blacks and natural lights. The only caveat is that developers haven't really standardized its use yet which produces different results on a similar TV. This is further complicated by TV manufacturers that don't have a standard implementation yet. The beauty of GT's implementation is the EV setting in the display setting that allows you to adjust the value for your TV. Its smart because it sidesteps the TV issue. And its future proof if you get a new set. We need more games to do this because I doubt we will get a true 'industry standard'

Gwiz2399d ago

Having an Acer predator 4K Gsync monitor for my PC AND a 4K HDR TV for my PS4Pro I know exactly what you're saying.
Sure the input lag on the monitor is sublimely low but the HDR on the TV is still the biggest difference between the two.

mainman6652399d ago

Forbesa Killer - FULL game for $60 with no moron magnet loot gambling horsesh*t and includes incredible racing, graphics (HDR beauty and 60fps), music variety, and ZERO gimmicks. A real racing game!

Polyphony setting the racing bar again! Such an awesome demo and that stadium race is just... I wanna pinch myself!

TankCrossing2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

But the "FULL game for $60" contains a fraction of the content of the $60 edition of Forza 7, which is also presented in "HDR beauty and 60fps", and renders in native 4k to boot. Last I checked it was also a real racing game.

My heart belongs to Project Cars 2, because I love my racing games in VR. For that reason I'd also take GT Sport over Forza 7. I'm also quite adamantly anti-loot box. I just think it is stupid not to recognise the qualities and failings that each game brings to the table.

showtimefolks2399d ago

tank/septics/moldy/pappy

this isn't GT7 with 800 cars this is a different entry into this series so we don't need 800 cars. I GT5/6 are any indications this will be supported for a long long time with a lot of free content yes free something the competetion needs to understand

and no micro transactions this alone should be celebrated and supported
best in class HDR with options to make adjustments

instead of hating why can't PD learn something from turn-10 and turn 10 can learn something from GT/PD

on a playstation article there are more xbox fanboys commentating man why don't y'all go play the better racer that sold worst than forza 6 and Half of sales of forza 3 . Instead of talking how about supporting some of the xbxo games. GT:S in one month will have more sales than

forza 6
horizon 3
forza 7

in their first month combined keep talking

TankCrossing2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Right, my comment was clearly full of hate. Well spotted.

I don't really think it matters if they call it GT Sport, GT 7, or a new IP altogether. The amount of content will still be compared with the direct competition, and rightly so. Same goes for every other aspect of the game, good or bad.

2399d ago
nix2399d ago

Tank, with that 60 dollars ppl can actually win FIA cup. A real official one. And a chance to become a real race driver.

I bought PC because it was crowd funded to some extent but damn the AI, they're all homicidal. Even PC 2's AI is still screwed up. Pump up the AI to 100 and try to play a true sim, the cars just piles up. I'm just done with PC bcoz I think it's game breaking deal for me.

TysinK2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Yup and when it scores a 72 on Meta the damage control here will be legendary, N4G will have an epic meltdown lol

@showtimefolks Yawn the sales card due to Gran Turdismo being a mediocre racer now and will score a 70 on Meta, and now the sales are drasitcally falling, I predict under 2 million sales, this will be the final GT as the Studio will close down after

mandingo2399d ago

Yet it doesn't even have a career mode. Some 60 dollar game right?

TankCrossing2398d ago

The FIA cup is a neat feature, though i can assure you I wouldn't not win it in a million years.

I didn't say GT Sport is all bad. I said it would be held up against the direct competition, good bits and bad, regardless of how they choose to name it. There are definitely good bits. We're commenting on an article all about the sublime HDR implementation and lighting for a start, and I've yet to hear anyone say a bad word about the handling of the cars. It also has no micro-transactions, and (crucially imo) includes VR support.

I'd take GT Sport over Forza 7. I just think you folk that can't acknowledge the pros AND cons of each game are morons.

Gazondaily2399d ago

There are many Sony fanatics on here that are pretty petty on the site. That's all

Liqu1d2398d ago (Edited 2398d ago )

Septic calling others petty lol. Check out the N4G club on Xbox and you'll see him posting links of N4G comments and insulting people behind their backs, then he cries and plays the victim when others insult him.

He's getting disagrees because he has a reputation of being a troll. He has been hyping up 4K gaming on One X since it's announcement yet he doesn't have a 4K HDR TV. He won't be getting one to play GT Sport on either because he won't be buying the game just like he hasn't bought Forza 7 yet he hyped it up.

The people who get mass disagrees on every comment have a reputation.

Gran Turismo Sport Has Been Delisted From PS Store

Sony Interactive Entertainment has delisted Gran Turismo Sport from the PlayStation Store as of January 1, 2024.

ApocalypseShadow124d ago

The great digital future. Where games vanish. The benefits of digital just aren't enough over physical to every buy in 100 percent. Especially when my Atari games still work and can be played to this day over 40 years later. Some of these digital games don't even last a whole generation.

purple101124d ago

But in this case everyone who has it still has it

And they unlocked single player to be allowed to progress offline

ApocalypseShadow123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

But in the case of others, they can no longer can buy it or any delisted game. Just like online only games that get their servers turned off and there's no update for offline with bots.

If you like the idea of any digital game being delisted where it's no longer available at all, then you and others are fools. What's all that presentation bullshit guys like you spew?

There should be no reason any digital game should be removed. Ever.

Bathyj122d ago

Apocalypse no one likes it. But let's be clear here.

If you own the game, you still own it. All that's happening here is they are stopped selling it.

Why? I have no clue. But it's the exact same thing if your local best buy isn't stocking the disc anymore and Sony aren't making any more. Same thing, just in the digital realm.

If you want to complain about servers for an online game being shut down, go ahead. But that's a separate topic and can happen to any online game even with a physical disc.

fan_of_gaming122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

@Bathyj "But it's the exact same thing if your local best buy isn't stocking the disc anymore and Sony aren't making any more. Same thing, just in the digital realm."

It isn't the exact same thing at all. When a game gets a physical release, it is always available even if big-box retailers aren't selling it new anymore. For example, I can go on eBay today and buy a new & sealed copy of Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron for PS3, because it once had a physical release. However I cannot buy a copy of Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron for PS4 today, because it had a digital-only release and was delisted.

If Gran Turismo Sport had a digital-only release, it would be unavailable for anyone to buy ever again. But because it had a physical release, in 5 years someone that wants to play it can still acquire it.

Cacabunga122d ago

People should stand against digitalization

purple101122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

I have only brought one or two digital games in my life
Everything I buy is physical

Often from eBay in perfect condition.
Sometimes from a online shop in uk such as

365games
Shopto.net
Simplygames
Base.com

All, who will ship disk to your door on day of release, cheaper than buying from digital store.

Then I either keep, lend, or sell. My choice

No where, did I say I support digital. And yet someone even called me a fool,
Haha
Totally misunderstood, some would say, he’s the fool

With GtSport It ISNT being taken away from anyone who already owns it. So this has all got out of hand with people not even reading the article

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 122d ago
DigitallyAfflicted123d ago

Maybe this will make people realise the future of digital-only games

purple101123d ago

This one won’t though
Because it’s not de-listed and taken away from you
It’s just not on sale anymore and the multiplayer will be shut down soon I reckon. It released 2017 so it’s had a fair run of 5 years online multiplayer lobbies

DigitallyAfflicted123d ago

@Purple, but it could be taken away, like p.t. Demo was, as well is taken away from anyone who didn't purchase GTsport in a digital form and yes I know we can still buy disc version and it's not a big of a deal.

My point is that you can't own something if it's not physical, with digital-only content you pay for the right to download and use and possibly in the future there will be some laws regulating you rights to it…

blackblades123d ago

I mean y'all been whining about that since the ps3 era. To this day im still able to play all the games I payed for.

ApocalypseShadow123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

It won't. Fools like purple think that just because they can still download it now, that it's safe. I've bought multiple games on console and mobile that are no longer downloadable or function. Because the game was either delisted or since it was connected to the Internet, no longer works because the servers were shut down turning those games into coasters. With no update to be able to play some games offline with bots. They're gone.

He won't get it or care until it happens to him and some of his games are delisted and removed or don't work any more even if he "bought it "

EvertonFC123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

If you don't keep your old consoles, your physical disk will be useless too. Do you think console hardware or disk drives will be around in 20 years. Good luck with that.
I'm not saying it's right btw, just pointing out to the physical crowd that digital and physical are very alike when it comes to actually being able to play the games in the future like 20 years time.
When I'm in my care home, I don't expect to be able to play my old digital or physical collection as consoles won't be around or disk drives for playstation.
Unless your keeping the old consoles safe in the attic over time, nobody will be playing there old physical game collections.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 123d ago
EvertonFC123d ago

If you bought a physical launch day copy of GTS you still won't be able to download any of the updates in 20 years when servers are off.
Plus there will be no such thing as a disk drive or a hardware box for that matter in 20 years unless you keep your old consoles.
My point is sadly your physical or digital copy won't work.

Barlos122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

I see this as the digital equivalent of physical games going out of print. They don't continue to make copies forever, at some point they will stop making it, usually when sales dry up and I guess for GT sport that happened some time ago. Also, in the digital world, storage space is not infinite. If a game is no longer selling, why would they waste space on keeping it available?

For those that already own the digital version, they will still have access to it.

frostypants122d ago

I generally agree, but GT Sport is primarily an online game. They probably have some reluctance to deal with the blowback of selling an online-oriented game that may not have active servers much longer. Admittedly that's a whole other issue in itself.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 122d ago
Father__Merrin122d ago

Online based titles like this I wouldn't expect to last forever as the game has been updated iterations as in gt7

Same with if FIFA 20 was delisted as example there's update to game. If something like Uncharted collection was delisted then that's something that's bad

Time to get a PS5! New PS5 owners in the USA can currently claim a game for free, but GT7 is not part of this promotion.

purple101222d ago

GT sport was good. Gt7 is better.

For someone who was crap at racers (and still is) and only played kart racers with powerups, I can say GT sport and gt7 balance SIM/ arcade racing to perfection. Easy enough for anyone to play and not crash but with enough depth to master for years.

Totally different to need for speed / Forza handling where the cars feel 'floaty'.

The dualsense is just supreme with gt7 toi

badz149222d ago

So...will they enable offline saves now or what?

VariantAEC216d ago

From Gran-Turismo.com (the article liked above): "All existing cars and personalized Car Settings kept in Garage will be accessible. Gameplay progression required as normal to unlock additional cars and items."

So... yes, as far as I can tell you'll still be able to use all your collected and purchased cars and race on all the tracks in the game and unlock ones you might not already have access to. That's what I'm getting from the post, but time will tell if this actually comes to pass February 1st, 2024.

Agent75221d ago

After Turismo 4 on the PS2, the series was never the same. Although Turismo 4 wasn't a finished game and didn't play as good as Turismo 3. Turismo 5 on PS3 was a mess, Turismo 6 was Turismo 5 finished. Sport on PS4 was another mess, especially VR mode. Sort of back on track with Turismo 7, but so tiring as with the Forza series. Anyone remember the PSP version that had no championship mode? Turismo has always been average at best.

OmegaSoldati221d ago

Thats why i dont like online only games. Cant believe this, this game sold so well. You need to be a fanboy to keep supporting Sony after this. Bought this thinking that it would take 10 years for this. I'm lucky that there are enough classics and single players for a life time.

VariantAEC216d ago

Looks like PD has the potential to set the bar for closing out always online games.
Back when GT Sport launched you couldn't do anything when you couldn't access the servers, but it looks like GT Sport will retain access to SP race modes, custom races, VR, your full garage, and all tracks. This is much more than what was available at launch if offline.

We still will lose custom liveries and race suits, which is nonsense, but hey if you share them online now they will be in the cloud and available to you in GT7 if you're interested. Basically, we lose MP, but players keep everything we earned and whatever was paid for.
