Alien: Isolation Is Still An Unmatched Horror Experience

Three years since its release, the survival horror game set in the Alien universe still stands as remarkable and haunting.

Well this is stupid, first Gamespot give the game a 6.0 score. Now there giving it a load of praise that it should have got in the first place in the review. Just re-review it, give it the score it deserves & admit you were wrong. Same goes for you IGN with your daft review score of 5.9.

freshslicepizza2411d ago

Someone got VR working on it too, another reason why the PC is such a vaulable platform for gaming.

naruga2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

its a very stressful experience ..i didnt like it...Surv Hor games need combat (and fight of the fear)in order to relieve player form stress otherwise the games are unappealing ........Alien Isol made perfect job to catch the atmosphere and feeling , though the unkillable adversary was a costant unnerving thing making it at the end not fun to play .....though is the best made in this category , leaving far behind other mediocrities like outlast and RE7

Concertoine2410d ago

@naruga

There is combat. You get guns in Isolation - several of them.

@naruga

There is gun combat, the game was perfectly balanced.

@MrFisher21

moldybread said nothing wrong. You're the one that seems to be suffering from monthly symptoms.

Anyway, Alien Isolation truly is an amazing experience. Almost too intense at times for my weakened adrenals, but very unique and well crafted.

AmUnRa2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

Why are you bringing in VR ?
Is it that The xboxOne and the xboxonex do not have it now and the PS4 and the PS4 Pro have actualy a lot of VR games?
O i get it you stealhtrolling and thats why you talking about PC VR... Got it🙄

Review sites are not hive minds. Just because they all work at the same place doesn't mean they all share the same opinion, that would be silly. A different person wrote this article, the original reviewer isn't even with gamespot anymore.

ThePope2410d ago

The game is a solid 8.5. I think a lot of the complaints center around the length, but I feel that its long mostly because people (reviewers) were to scared to move lol.

CloudStrife9002410d ago

No, Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame / Project Zero 1 and 2 (for me) stand as unmatched horror games.

Concertoine2410d ago

Am i weird for liking FF3 the most? Those crawl space scenes haunt me.

bigmalky2410d ago

Depends. They all have different styles and are unmatched in their sub-categories.

Resident Evil 2 is unmatched in the series. Same with Silent Hill 2. Until Dawn in the choose your own adventure category. Alien Isolation in 1st person survival sci-fi... It's all dependant on which styles you like, and I love most well done horror games.

Skankinruby2410d ago

This game was great don't get me wrong, but the atmosphere throughout the whole game was more Sci fi than horror with a few jump scares here and there. Nowhere close to outlast.

ThePope2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

Now you are 100% entitled to your opinion. But I have to ask did you play it? The game does indeed have a few jump scares, but sets such a stressful atmosphere that at times I would find myself sitting in an area for way more time than I should have. Again, by just saying "a few jump scares" gives me the impression that you didnt play it (or perhaps didn't beat it) and I could be wrong.

Skankinruby2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

I did, I finished it twice actually got the 'Ripley Signing Off' trophy. I like the game a lot I just don't understand why people think it's so scary. For jump scares I found the evil within, outlast, and even until dawn to be way more effective

ThePope2410d ago

I dont think the game has very many jump scares, I think it sets up an extremely tense atmosphere from beginning to end.

bigmalky2410d ago

It's not set up for jump scares as a main trope though. It's primarily a tension builder, with edge of the seat atmosphere. Unlike, say, Resident Evil, where you have short periods of tension and a jump scare, followed by a period of calm, Alien isolation was built with no safety areas past the introduction to the Xeno, keeping you on edge and firmly in a state of psychological terror for hours on end... If you could play that long without taking a break, that is.

ThePope2409d ago

Exactly! Thats why the game is so damn long. You can only play for 5 minutes at a time lol

ApexWolf222410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

Yes, this game is longer than usual for it's genre, but if you fully play through it you would understand why(it's a BIG ship), if you could simply run past everything it would likely be 1/4 of the length. Another problem is the puzzles, could they be any more vague? you could be going in circles for hours trying to find a simple keycode or switch to progress. However, my main complaint was the ending, like wtf? I won't ruin it, but damn I wanted a sequel, but given the lore it follows I doubt it'll ever happen.

NotAfanBoyy2410d ago

One of the most unique and best games I ever played. Play-style does take a bit of getting used to. Worth it.

tbh it doesn’t need a sequel. Fantastic game but not something to make into a long running series.

Good month imo. I'll play Gotham Knights and House of Ashes. I'm finishing up Disco E on Steam right now - that's a superb game.

cthulhucultist217d ago

House of Ashes was weird but one of the good weird ones! Really enjoyed it
