I think you are overreacting guys. I agree that 9/11 was a terrifying thing, but the fact that we HAVE to abolish ANYTHING made about it, its going too far.

Yes, 9/11 was bad, but freaking out about a level in LBP will not help at all. I agree with you, however I would still a bit sensitive. I think you're not too sensitive about 9/11 because you weren't directly involved. I can only imagine the grief and suffering from the families directly involved with 9/11. Some loved ones died, others badly injured: Lives were changed forever as a result of 9/11. It's not something you're likely to forget anytime soon. Who're we to say to those family members: "it's been 7 years now, get over it" (I would not want to be the one to say that)

I know you're not trying to be a jerk, but these are things you just have to accept and take it in the ass for the good of those families directly involved with 9/11. For one thing, I remember seeing actual photos and videos of people jumping to their deaths, and someone makes a "Here's Superman!" joke out of it. Would you be laughing or angry? Consider that this happened about 5 years after 9/11. To be honest, I stopped caring about 9/11, but I'll still respect those that still care about 9/11. It was a tragic day for America.

This level is both distasteful and unbelievably outrageous, honestly the event and death toll affected the world so much. The views on national security, racism and immigration were greatly affected by this travesty, only to be recreated in a game where creativity is praised. I hope no praise goes to this. 2000 deaths is nothing to forget about. Two of one of the most symbolic buildings in America's economy collapsing is nothing to forget about. People just don't get over that.

In this case, I'll agree with Microsoft's view on player created content and implication in-game. I guess this is what they wanted to prevent. Only in this case though.

There is no doubt that this is in very poor taste and also one of the least impressive videos that has come out of the beta. However, when you start banning things for being in bad taste there comes the question of whose taste are we legislating for; don't you think that people who want GTA banned are just as horrified about that?

Don't ever ban things like this; once a line is drawn of what is acceptable (even amongst a small gaming community) then it becomes a question of where the line is drawn and who draws it. Use the community features to rate this low and hopefully ostracise it.

I wonder however, is it the 9/11 fact that has people so wound up or is it because you can crash the plane into the towers? Would this story have even been written if the same level had been called "city demolition" or "LBP Godzilla?"

Lots of people call for more games based around current affairs and social commentary; is it that someone could have fun while playing this level I wonder? Does that mean that a film such as United 93 should also not be in any way enjoyable as it detracts from the horror of the events portrayed?

In two sentences I have sufficiently pwned your argument. And I don't see why anyone would want this kind of thing in our games. It's tasteless and was only made to shock people. Isn't the problem of ratings always going to be that with an increasing reliance upon user innovation and user created content, ratings on boxes will become increasingly irrelevant and incapable of giving an accurate reflection of the suitability of a product for an individual. I just don't see how someone could see this as not being offensive, or deserving of a spot on LBPs servers. That is the premise for your entire argument. The fact is everyone knows this IS offensive, whether they are offended by it personally or not. I also don't see a 3 second LBP level that consists of jumping on a plane and flying it into exploding buildings as any way educational, but I guess our opinions differ in that respect as well. And it definitely doesn't say anything intelligent about the subject.

As for who's banning what, the community of LBP are the people responsible for the content. We report it and it gets sent for review. Something like this would most definitley be banned by whoever reviews the content, while other things may not be. Reporting things that aren't worthy of being banned cause that user to loose influence in the community. In this way everyone is involved in keeping the LBP worlds clean. There is an obvious larger power in Media Molecule approving what goes on, but I'm fine with that. It's basically a small democratic government, and people need small amounts of control and boundaries because people are stupid. Videos like this just prove that.

I know different things offend different people, but this level is clearly offensive, and in no way contributes to LBP or its community. There is no reason this should be represented as any form of art when its really just an easy way for the moron that made it to get attention.

Also, I don't necessarily endorse censorship. I have no problem with games like Postal or anything like that. You can choose to play games like that or not. I just think there needs to be boundaries for a game like this, which appeals to everyone. I can see why you might disagree, but I'd rather not have kids making/playing levels based on genitalia (for example), and especially not terrorism. I'd also like LBP not to be corrupted in that way. It can be fun without being offensive.

I also believe games can be art (like Ico or SotC), and hope this game achieves that type of status. People can make art in LBP, I just don't think levels like this qualify.

Yes, 9/11 sucked hard. However, the concept of banning things that we feel are objectionable is just not a way to run anything that is supposed to use a democratic system. The mods of Media Molecule are like the government, who defines what kind of extremes are unacceptable for levels. Those extremes are not all black and white, so MM shows how the masses can accept and reject all of the levels that are the in the grey area.

By letting the masses rate and give support for these levels, the system remains democratic and free for the people to choose what to burn and what to keep. Most of the people disfavor 9/11, so don't expect levels like this to survive long in the game. Complaining about these things will only bring attention to the money-hungry media. If the media sees that the general public is outraged, you can expect this game to be crucified.

@Da Truth - I don't think something like this would fall into that category. For example, you can't make a game about terrorists blowing stuff up, slap cartoony graphics on it, and rate it E. Stuff like that would be rated M for "Violent References" etc. LBP obviously falls under E, but if it was a game about making things like this (which it isn't) it would have received a different rating.

I can't really tell how you feel from the comment, but I think that MMs method of weeding out the offensive/copyright infringing levels will work. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they handle it fairly.

But if somebody made a level that has nothing to do with WW2 and had people in gas chambers nobody would care. I think the problem is that we as a society are just used to the "lil" ones. We're used to watching the news and hearing about shootings and soldiers dying at war. Most of us probably just change the channel without a slight care that a soldier has died in Iraq or a suicide bomber killed 50 people at a crowded restaurant. But we're not used to 4 planes being hijacked and 2 of them hitting the towers. We're not used to a plane being used to attack the Pentagon. But let us not forget that nations are made up of many but led by few. Bad governments may make bad nations but they don't make bad people. Innocent people died in the attacks on 9/11. Sure, there were likely some a-holes that were killed in this incident - whether they deserved to die in such a manner is a topic for another discussion - but I know for a fact that many, if not most, who died on that day were decent people. Just because people support a corrupt government does not make them bad people. A lot of people are simply ignorant, they don't understand what's truly going on behind the scenes. Other people realize the faults of their nation's leaders and don't necessarily look past them but try to have faith that changes can/will be made - I believe we call them optimists.

Please take note that I am not trying to excuse the brutal actions that certain nations take toward others, but rather that there ARE (without a doubt) good people in every nation - many of which died in 9/11 I'm sure. We CAN make a difference on an individual basis. Goodwill is infectious, but so is evil. Acts like 9/11 are a step in the wrong direction as is making lite of it.

As far as the game, this can't be blamed on Sony and the developers on LBP. The end of the day people died in WW2 and loads of developers made WW2 based games, Heck they've even made games where you go out to the middle east. People die all the time you could die walking across the street, maybe someone you know died walking across the street then GTA comes out allowing people to knock people down and run over them a hundred times. Do you complain about that? Don't think so. What about shooting or stabbing some one in GTA that kind of crap happens all the time and people still play it. I have to give this site some props though, some of the other sites I used to visit quite often would be full of people saying something like.. "KILL THIS MOFO DAWG".. At least here, most of the people that disagree simply state their position on the matter. And say its just appalling.
