A whopping 18 games are launching on Switch this week

This week is a crazy one for the Nintendo Switch, because a whopping 18 new games will be released for the system. That's by far the biggest release week in the history of the console.

A nice number and variety of third party games, gracing the legendary Nintendo Switch, in one week. This happens when a console is a smashing success. The legendary Nintendo Switch is indeed a smashing success. This is only the first year. The games lineup can only, and will only, get much better. The ability to play the same home system on the go, a proven game changer.

_-EDMIX-_2420d ago

I think it's an interesting concept but in no means do I believe it's "a game-changer" especially since this is not the first time you've been able to play a game on the go in any degree of quality.

If anything I would say this is a game-changer for Nintendo as a company individually, it would be their first time basically only selling a portable or their first time in a very long time only focusing on one device.

nitus102420d ago

All those games get a "yawn" from me since I am very picky but the proof of success (more support) or failure (dropped support) will be sales.

As for "gaming on the go" I normally drive and cops take a very dim view of people not paying attention on the road. Even commuting is problematic if you are on a crowded bus or train especially if you're traveling times are usually less than 30 minutes. Personally, I stick to a smartphone since they are much more versatile and are relatively small.

_-EDMIX-_2420d ago

@nit-well I respect your opinion and I'm glad to see that you're able to be level headed to understand that future success is going to be based on sales of software.

I'm not as much as a portable gamer as I was when I was younger but the switch (like the PSP before) gives me the opportunity to play on my television which I actually did with the PSP later and it's life for actually quite a long time.

I think overall it's going to depend on the software and people that still like playing their games on their phones I don't really believe are going to change.

I believe this is going to be extremely successful for Nintendo Gamers because this is a community over all that doesn't necessarily care about Graphics so being on a portable is not necessarily a terrible thing to that community, also having one device instead of splitting the door install base amongst to devices will be beneficial for all Nintendo gamers.

So I would say a lot of this benefits Nintendo Gamers as a community more than gaming in general.

This is not necessarily a first time in gaming but clearly a first time for Nintendo to do something like this.

As for third party games it remains to be seen and a lot of that future support, is going to be based on sales.

Jesus calm down lol enthusiasm is good but when it’s litteraly oozing off the page you can tone it down a bit

-Thanos2420d ago (Edited 2420d ago )

There can be too much enthusiasm, but never too much negativity or toxic. Gotcha.

Sirk7x2420d ago

Dude, I love my Switch (it really is a great console), but calling anything legendary is going to attract some negativity lol.

I hope this does mark the start of a trend.
The Switch's first year is turning out to be fantastic and is tracking above the Wii U.
If Nintendo keeps the momentum, they'll be set for next year as well.

_-EDMIX-_2420d ago

It all depends on how well a lot of these titles sell, if they sell well for their respective publishers you very much could see more games release but like I said all of that is clearly dependent on how well they actually sell.

We saw a lot of this on the Wii U so if the community doesn't actually actively start purchasing third party games you very well may see them just go elsewhere the same thing happened on Xbox with a lot of franchises.

Istolla2420d ago

Aren't you tired of being wrong? So far third party games on the Switch have sold very well even Street fighter on switch sold well (better than it had any right to). Mario + Rabbids, and indie games are selling on the Switch.

There is a reason the Switch is starting to see more support. It's because games are selling well on the system.

The 10th Rider2420d ago

US Switch software sales this year are on track to be the best year for Nitnendo since NPD tracking began.

_-EDMIX-_2420d ago (Edited 2420d ago )

@istolla-wrong about what? My statement I'm making is pretty obvious that it must be successful or for those that are successful must continue to be successful,no where am I saying that it won't be.

I'm simply saying that if some of these franchises that come out on the Nintendo switch do not perform profitably for Publishers they're going to stop support. (Once again I'm already telling you something that you already know I'm not actually saying that's going to happen or anything like that)

You saying that third-party so far as selling well is irrelevant because you don't know the sales of Doom Wolfenstein 2 or Skyrim or anything like that based on the sales of a Mario game or Street ..

That's like saying that games like zombie u or watch dogs are going to be great because of another successful Wii U game.

All games are not created equal and I'm shocked that anyone even needs to tell you this....

The switch is not receiving support because the actual software selling more it's most likely receiving support because there is a void of many genres, many Publishers are testing the waters to see if they could make money on the system as it's very hard to say something like Skyrim is releasing on the switch because of the game sales of other switch games when it was announced to come to the switch before any units were even sold to the public ....

So like I said before it's going to receive more support if game sales for third party games become profitable, but it's going to lose that support just as quick as it got it if those sales are not profitable for third party.

Stop deliberately trying to argue

The statement I made can be applied to any platform for any publisher I've actually made that statement for multiple platforms by the way.

The support that comes in the future is going to be based on the sales of those Publishers games

I'm not sure what's trying to be debated here, it's common sense

@10-I don't disagree with you clearly they're doing really well with Zelda Mario Kart and Mario Rabbids.... Nintendo properties.

actually only further proves my point.

Thanks. You're not seeing much third party in that list.

That's going to need to change if they actually want to get more support. The fact that the best-selling third-party game needs to actually be a Nintendo intellectual property further goes to show the install base favoritism of Nintendo's games.

It might go to show that the only way third parties can be successful on their platform is by basically using Nintendo properties. Which isn't bad by the way I actually think that's a great idea as I've stated multiple times as well guys seem to exaggerate almost every Point anyone makes that's not praying to this company 😂😂😂

Yes, that means I believe it's a good idea that Ubisoft chose to do that because look at the results of using a Nintendo property. Fact that that must even be done just to sell a significant amount of units on this install base further shows the isolation of this install base in regards to other publishers.

That is going to need to change in order for more Publishers to come on board

Like I said stop arguing against Common Sense are you guys going to tell me that no sales whatsoever need to be received for Publishers to keep putting games on the system? Lol

@_-EDMIX-_,

Did you actually read what the guy said? Right now sales are driven by first party titles, which makes sense as there hasn't been many third party game released yet. However, "Now that third-party support seems to be gaining momentum regularly, we should start seeing more balanced contribution."

An analyst from a group that has been tracking sales for 22 years believes that third-party sales are starting to pick up on the Switch. Stop reading things selectively.

_-EDMIX-_2420d ago

@The10- thats nice.

Game sales must continue for them to keep getting 3rd party support or for support to stay. Not sure why are you triggered by that fact. Was not made to make you feel bad.

Nintentional2420d ago

Somebody’s salty over here 🙄😂

_-EDMIX-_2420d ago

Nintentional lol dat name doe!

😂😂😂

This is probably one of my favorite names on n4g right now.

Btw, no salt, other than a lot of your reactions. My comment actually applies to every platform and was never made as some negative shade. You guys simply find any comment to see it as a negative regardless of what it's trying to say.

It all depends on how well games sell but that applies to every single publisher in gaming sooooo yea.

wonderfulmonkeyman2420d ago (Edited 2420d ago )

The system itself wouldn't be tracking above the Wii U so much, to the point that Nintendo's having their best year since 1995, if there weren't plenty of titles aside from their own selling well, so your concern isn't that big a concern.
What matters is whether or not Nintendo can keep up the momentum by continuing to pull in indies while making more strides in their first party stuff.
The AAA third party names will come at their own pace with either new games or ports, slow as the buildup might be, but they'll come.

kevnb2420d ago

all we saw on wii u were ports of older games, not much else as far as third party goes.

Well above the Wii U, the software sales on the Switch in the US are the best that Nintendo has seen since 95: http://nintendoeverything.c...

Scatpants2420d ago

Wow normally they only release a few shovelware titles every week, but this week it's as if they're shoveling shovelware at us.

EddieNX 2420d ago

Hardly any shovel ware there just respected indie games and third party games. Shovel ware is stuff like Barbies pony ride etc.

The quality controlled on Switch is top drawer atm, unlike the Wii, DS which were flooded with shovel ware. 3DS and Wiiu were an improvement but the Switch has got it right.

Everything is just 1st party, 3rd party or respectable indie games.

gleepot2420d ago

Agreed, they are good games.

phoenixwing2420d ago

half of it is kind of shovelware but still that doesn't mean they're all bad either. Good week for nintendo

NotoriousWhiz2420d ago

I have a switch but they brought out the heavy shovels for this week. That said there are some good games in there too. I got Golf story and it seems pretty fun. I may get Fifa if there's ever a price drop. But really, there's gonna be so much good stuff between October and November, that it just won't be feasible to support every quality title on the Switch.

Outlawzz2420d ago

Great news and I wish I could support these games but I have my hands full with Xenoverse and pokenn probably till Mario releases
