GTA V Was Released 4 Years Ago Today

On the 17th of September 2013, Grand Theft Auto V, the latest installment in Rockstar's popular franchise, was released following years of rumors and months of hype. The game was predicted to be a massive success but blew away all expectations immediately. Now on it's fourth anniversary, let's look back at some of the most momentous events that have happened since then.

Look I'm not a huge GTA fan (I prefer RDR anytime) but lets give credit where credit is due, GTA 5 was one of the best games evere made.

you can be like me or skinox and dislike the game.
i dislike GTA series as a whole..i join him on this one it is bland and boring.
never finished one game, played all of them out of hype. i dont like the freedom in it and everything is scripted with uninteresting characters and lame quests.. drive there, pick this up, clear up the place, pick the loot, lose the police...
sorry but people are allowed not to like this and not be called names because they are a minority.

Well duhh, if you didn't like GTA to begin with you're not going to like GTA5 are you? I don't like certain games, and if a sequel comes out the chances are I won't like that one either. Doesn't mean those games aren't good, it's just not my thing.

EDIT:I'd also like to say that the term 'overrated' is used way too much by people. If you don't like something, but a huge majority do like something, it doesn't mean it's 'overrated' - it just means your opinion is in the minority. Your opinion means less in the grand scheme of things.

the only thing i did hate about gta v was there is nothing at all to do after you finished all the missions, minus online, but that's toxic most the time

The guy/girl above me can say overrated and to me it isn't as memorable as GTA3-SA (I even loved 4 despite what some people think of it), but to this day it is the highest technical achievement in open world gaming. You may be able to argue The Witcher 3, but content has been coming out for GTA5 since release. There is so much content that is unbelievable.

My only grip is that I am a huge single player gamer and seeing this as the only Rockstar release in 4 years depresses me a bit. I never cared about Agent, Midnight Club, or LA Noire, but games like Bully, Manhunt, State of Emergency (I know), Warriors, Red Dead, Max Payne, and even Smugglers seem to have gone with the restructuring of Rockstar.

Please make original games alongside GTA. There are 10 Rockstar studios...

Agree but I've enjoyed every game Rockstar has put out since state of decay.

I'm mainly a single player campaign type gamer so this money machine that GTA online has turned into sucks IMO

GTA SA to me is still the best GTA game ever made, the story was 10x better than either 4 or 5.

The gap between GTA4 and 5 seemed like an eternity, but it was only 5 years in the end. The funny thing is we haven't really had a true GTA for this generation of consoles yet. GTA5 came right at the end of the previous generation. It was still a game from that generation and essentially on PS4/Xbox One it is just a port.

I hope GTA6 will come before too long, but with RDR2 pushed back then the time schedule is likely to be pretty extended at this point. Maybe we'll get a GTA6 reveal next summer, after RDR2 has arrived.

it was 5 1/2 years to be exact (same as breath of the wild). Thats a pretty long time for game developement.. but definitely worth it in the end

it will come t the end of the generation and we'll get a port of it on the next gen consoles at 4k/60 (assuming the x and pro could run it at 4k/30 ish)

Funny enough it's been 5 years between GTA 4 and GTA v and 5 years between GTA 4 and sa .

This would make the next GTA game unless it miraculously launched in the next 12 months the longest wait between sequels in GTA history

And is still in the top ten to this day, absolutely mind boggling to me. From a technical achievement standpoint this game is untouchable, but I personally thought the campaign was insanely overrated and I don't play online so this one just wasn't for me.

You can say what you want about GTA but it is a Excellent series Rockstar know how to make a game. I might be alone here but i hate the online portion ( TOO MANY LITTLE KIDS AND CRY BABY'S ONLINE ) but love the single player. Rockstar along with Naughty Dog are devs that i would buy their games without knowing anything about them that's how much i trust in them to make a excellent game.

I still dont get why everyone loves GTA 5, Vice City, GTA 2 and San Andreas were all better games that stood out from the crowd. GTA 5 is a game played by mostly 12 year olds at this time.

It is overrated, but it stands as a monumental achievement in gaming, and its success (both in sales and in concurrent gamers) is unparalleled for a $60 game. I loved my time with the single player and eagerly await Red Dead 2, but I have absolutely no love for the online microtransaction tomfoolery.

And ps3 and 360 could run it!I found it strange that the ps4 and x1 couldn't reach 60 on a gen 7 game my reason for not buying a gen 8 console untill ps4 pro came out
