Many of the decisions made has proven to be very divisive though. They completely removed the comic book like aesthetic and many longtime fan favorite characters, elements that have been with this franchise since its inception 23 years ago, in favor of trying to hard to appeal to the MCU crowd.

Plus there are pathetically so few newcomers in this game, an element that has always been this franchise's strength with its ability to pull new characters from various beloved franchises and ones that many people wouldn't be familiar with otherwise and put them into the spotlight for people to love them. So far every newcomer has been from a previously represented Capcom franchise in the series or someone who's heavily tied with the MCU.

I don't know how Capcom did it, but they've done too many polarizing things to this game that I don't feel prompted to get a Marvel vs Capcom game day one or even in the weeks after.

This series used to be king of crossover fighting games next to SSB, but this latest installment has so many controversial decisions put into its design.

The problem with MvC:I and what Capcom are trying to do is that while these systems in place are certainly great to ease newcomers in, you can't sell the game to them with these features. They need stuff to grab their attention first and that's why they've failed big time. The game looks so uninspired in it's presentation and doing away with the series more stylistic look for one of the blandest looking fighters I've seen. They also need to give people proper single player experiences, many players don't want to touch fighting games online because even with all the easier mechanics to get them started, it's still a lengthy endeavour, it literally takes months to get to a reasonable standard at fighting games.

NRS had the right idea with Injustice 2, they went and managed to successfully implement things like gear into the game and built it around a deep single player experience meaning whatever you want from a fighting game, it will have plenty to offer everyone.

They tried to reach all audiences and now they are having trouble trying to reach the most important audience, the MvC fan.

to be fair, there were three capcom vs snk titles. 1, Pro & 2 but only one SvC Chaos. If there is a capcom/SNK crossover that needs a new entry it is that one.

The article states Tekken 7 might be the best fighter currently available on Xbox, but leaves out important information that it never takes advantage of the Xbox hardware. It never got any kind of patch/boost/upgrade for the more powerful Xbox consoles, meaning it still runs at 720p I believe, resulting in a very blurry look.

Truly wish more devs would respect their products and customers enough to address issues such as these.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Deserved Better

What could've been an unbeatable addition to the Versus franchise ends up being a footnote in why publishers shouldn't leave a project hanging with a meager budget.

It had two-person teams instead of the fan-favored 3, and they charged for Venom as DLC instead of including him in the base game, even though Venom was the most-missed omission from MvC3.

Marvel vs Capcom deserved better than Infinite.

MvC3’s mechanics were too shallow, but at least they tried with the roster (THE most attractive part of the franchise).

If they were smart, they’d go back and do a semi-reboot of MvC2 with a hand-drawn style, and just include Marvel characters.

Avengers vs X-men would be infinitely cooler than anything watered down with old Capcom characters. I don’t need Ryu to fight Iron Man…. We wanna have Hulk fight Iron Man more.

I enjoyed 2v2 way better then 3 on a team. Also, the mechanics on mvci where easy better.

They couldn’t be easier than MVC3 and be better.

I thought the series went into hibernation. The property rights debacle was an understandable reason. It is a pain in the ass. Old games getting their soundtracks removed, games getting taken off of the store, etc. When they announced infinite I went berserk because I understood the trouble they went through to make that happen. They got hype to 100 and then took a giant dump on it. We didn’t deserve that, mvc didn’t deserve that.

I want a capcom versus game. They have enough characters to do it and the budget and properties aren’t an issue

VersusDMC874d ago

I more want a Bandai Namco or Square vs Capcom. Or a Project X Zone situation where it's characters from several different publishers.

sourOG874d ago

I don’t really play snk games like that so that doesn’t hype me. I haven’t played the other vs games. I want a straight up 3v3 capcom characters fighter. No guests, no contracts for right holder liberties and chains to someone else’s characters.

That development freedom could be boring for some with just capcom characters but I don’t think it would. I think it would be capcom unleashed and I also believe they have a solid roster with their own properties. In a time when everyone is making their own “rumble verse” with their properties I think it’s time for classic capcom to show them how it’s done.

Terry_B874d ago

Yeah..both Capcom and Disney ruined the series with this one.

Gaming4Life1981874d ago

I like infinite but the roster is terrible. Capcom needs to remake mvsc2 asap
