Nice. Frame rate > gameplay for me.

KaiPow2439d ago

Yeah, I love it when a console open world can get a 60fps mode.

Babadook72438d ago

If this is true PS4 pro will likely have that option too.

freshslicepizza2438d ago

@Babadook7
"If this is true PS4 pro will likely have that option too."

I doubt it.

Ricegum2438d ago

@Moldy

"I doubt it." = You hope not.

DARK_WOLF2438d ago

Ps4 pro should have the same mode but most likely be 720p/60 like nioh.

Ju2438d ago

Why would it be 720p?

dirkdady2437d ago

I think you'll find less and less devs taking the time to really optimize for the X. It's basic economics - why spend dev cycles to develop extras for a console that has very tiny footprint. It may change overtime if it starts selling more units than the base model.

Frame rate is better than gameplay? You know, if the Gameplay sucks... what's the point on playing that?

Name Last Name2438d ago

lol kids these days are too entitled. We used to enjoy a mess of pixels on the screen.

sloth33952438d ago (Edited 2438d ago )

I think you mean frame rate > graphics

Pantz2438d ago

nah who needs a good game when you can have awesome frame rate

sizeofyou2438d ago

Lol Pantz - today's chuckle covered off...

mark_parch2438d ago

60fps doesn't bother me as much in 3rd person games. i would still probably go with the 4k 30fps. but in 1st person games it makes a huge difference. i really hope they have a 1080p 60fps mode for far cry

gamer78042438d ago

Agreed unless it's a competitive or.simulation game id rather have 4K or some sort of better improved graphical effects.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2438d ago

You mean frame rate > Resolution*

DarXyde2438d ago

.... what?

Frame rate.... over gameplay?

Did you mean frame rate over graphics?

gamer78042438d ago

That makes no sense, without gameplay you have nothing. I'd rather 15 fps with gameplay than 120fps of watching the grass grow.

attilayavuzer2437d ago

But at 120 you could watch it in slow mo, really get your money's worth.

Jinger2438d ago

Gameplay? Did you mean resolution?

strifeblade2437d ago

Good option for those without 4k tvs

"Another noteworthy question is whether there will be a similar 1080P@60fps mode on Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro console since there isn’t much difference between the two consoles’ CPUs."

Except, you know, they are both custom chips so there really could be a lot of difference between them (dx12 baked into the chip for instance)

PrinceOfAnger2438d ago (Edited 2438d ago )

I'm not sure about PS4 pro version
But Ark evolved run at 1080p/60fps on XB1X and it run at 30 on pro it has been confirmed, is it going to be the same with Assassin's Creed Origins ?

Kribwalker2438d ago

Exactly. That's why I was saying this guys assumption that the Chips are the same is weingb

ocelot072438d ago

Ark did have an option for 720p 60 on the Pro. But they removed it. They didn't give a reason why they removed it. Other than it's a better experience for the users now.

freshslicepizza2438d ago

@ocelot07
"Ark did have an option for 720p 60 on the Pro. But they removed it. They didn't give a reason why they removed it. Other than it's a better experience for the users now."

Because according to Naughty Dog Sony has a policy that the PS4 regular system has to have the same parity if a game has any online mutiplayer in it.

If this is true it's nice to know they are unleashing the power of the XB1X and adds further questioning why Destiny 2 doesn't have this option on the XB1X.

ziggurcat2438d ago

@moldy:

"Because according to Naughty Dog Sony has a policy that the PS4 regular system has to have the same parity if a game has any online mutiplayer in it."

Oh? Can you cite this mythical statement from ND? because the only thing that's known is that only the frame rate has to be the same in MP for a game on the Pro as it is on the regular PS4 - it's got nothing to do with any of the single player portion of any game on the Pro. Stop twisting words.

"If this is true it's nice to know they are unleashing the power of the XB1X and adds further questioning why Destiny 2 doesn't have this option on the XB1X."

The devs at bungie have already, long-since explained why the game is what it is on Xbox One X. There's no "further questioning" on this.

arkard2438d ago

Ark is one of the most horribly optimized games in existence. I wouldn't use this for base of my comparison.

Bigpappy2438d ago

Custom CPU means nothing to these guys. They can't wait until the tech guys get a real X1X to do a full teardown and evaluation. Instead they run of with their assumptions as facts.

MegaMohsi2438d ago

Kinda like you do all the time on these forums lmao.

DrumBeat2438d ago

It's the same thing every few years. "Direct X 12 support will change the Xbox One profoundly and make it amazing!" Nothing happens.

Then there was the 'cloud.' -sigh- Brother.

Ju2438d ago (Edited 2438d ago )

Drawcall optimizations won't help much on a PS4 anyhow, how much if anything this benefits is another question. Sonys libraries were always closer to the metal with better Drawcall performance. What's really left is the operated memory bandwidth and the additional (cache) ram. I doubt this depends much on the CPU. Pros 2.2GHz would be fast enough.

conanlifts2438d ago

The cpus are pretty old And outdated. Based on their drawbacks i think people are overlooking the important advantage that doubling the cpu cache has in the xbox x over the pro. It seems the only thing some people look at is the 10% increase in clock speed.

freshslicepizza2438d ago

Along with the extra 4GB of ram.

343_Guilty_Spark2438d ago

Where did this idea come from that frame rate is only tied to the CPU?

Death2438d ago

Fans that want to ignore the GPU disparity and choose focus on CPU's instead.

yomfweeee2438d ago

Consoles are already way more optimized than DX12. DX12 was a joke anyway.

RedDeadLB2438d ago

You can't bake DX12 into the chip since it's just a software layer for communicating with the hardware. DX12 doesn't depend on the CPU you use, but the GPU.

Sure, the Xbox One X has a much more powerful GPU than the PS4 Pro, but the fact that they both still use the same CPU, only slightly overclocked is the main flaw of the systems. And to be fair, they can't change the CPU. That would make it a completely new system and the development effort would double.

The question is whether the CPU can keep up with the GPU. The difference between the Pro and the X in terms of GPU power is enough for 1080p 60fps on the X, but the question is how stable it will be since framerate is also dependent on the CPU. Considering the quality of performance of almost every Ubisoft game when it comes to CPU utilization, I wouldn't expect much.

Ju2438d ago (Edited 2438d ago )

Not quite true. Number of drawcalls generate a significant overhead in Dx12. Every call (most likely) requires the CPU to synch with the gpu and thus creates stalls. MS hw draw call optimization basically takes this away. Whatever Sony does with its low level graphics libraries which requires carefully design call layouts MS does in hw with the benefit it's transparent to a Dx12 interface. If this is really faster than PS4s hand optimized lean interface, is another question. But it sure improves dx12

Very good news for 1080p TV owners.

yarbie10002438d ago

And 4K owners who prefer framerate over resolution

Bigpappy2438d ago

We shall see. I have a 4K TV, so I can compare both and see which works best form me. But this is great that they would give both options. 1080p guys could get more out of Scorpio and 4K guys who prefer 60fps can roll with that option too.

10 Video Game Sequels That Saved Their Franchise

Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.

Immagaiden368d ago

Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?

Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise

SullysCigar368d ago

Thought the same - very bizarre!

RE7 though... my God, what a shift over RE6! That franchise was definitely going in the wrong direction, so RE7 was a welcome return to form.

ModsDoBetter368d ago

Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.

DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.

AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.

I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.

Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?

TheEnigma313368d ago (Edited 368d ago )

I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.

HellspawnPR1981368d ago

"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.

Hofstaderman368d ago

In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.

Six Best Historically Accurate Games

GF365: "Out of the many historically accurate games out there, these are our picks for the six best games that are historically accurate. While these games aren't completely accurate, they depict the times and situations of history well. Plus, they're all a lot of fun to play, too."

Historically accurate from the past is tough to truly know and judge especially the farther you go back because history is written from the people in power and doesn’t mean it’s the truth just the narrative they wanted to tell.

I don’t care about historically accurate in most games because they are games not biographies or history books . Just make the game fun , good gameplay and such .

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t historically accurate in many things but I loved the game . Many examples like it .
