PS Blog: Linger in Shadows Coming Oct 9th, and New Details

Rusty Butcher @ PS Blog Writes:

Hi all, my name is Rusty Buchert and I am the Sr. Producer for Linger in Shadows. Some of you may have heard about it already from coverage here and there, but there are a lot of questions surrounding this unique title. It will be releasing on the PlayStation Network on October 9, so I wanted to explain today about what Linger is and what it isn't. I'll start with the easier side, and that is Linger in Shadows is NOT a game. It was never meant to be a game and it will never be a game. Yes it has trophies, but it still isn't a game and I'll explain why a little later on.

So then, what the heck is it? There are a few different answers to that question and I'm going to try and cover them here. So here is the short version and then I'll ramble on in more detail. Linger in Shadows was created by Plastic, from the demoscene. It is an experiment with the demoscene and it is an experiment in Interactive Digital Art.

is this a psn title or just a demo and what the f is the game about!!!... :/ im not really hype but the graphics are AMAZING !!!

Nitrowolf25685d ago

im not sure they said its not a game but more of an interactive scene thing. They are trying to get you to look what beyond in this game, i hope this isnt more then 10bucks then cause i thougnt it was a game where you could move around.

UNCyrus5685d ago

you can move around. It is a "experiential" title that focuses on the player "exploring the beautifully rendered environments". This makes me believe that you will have full control of some entity and be able to fly (possibly... from what I've seen of the gameplay videos) around the landscape.

kapedkrusader5685d ago (Edited 5685d ago )

...why don't you just read the blog? The first thing he says is, "this is not a game". Then he goes on to explain what it is. So before you start rambling with questions, do us all a favor an read the article. This reply is not just directed to you, but to everyone that jumps the gun with their b'tchin' and whinin' without even reading the first sentence of the article their criticizing.

Indie art games are the future... just not the future of games

BeefJack: "Personally, I think taking the game out of games has limited long-term appeal within our medium, although some are certainly immersive. As we explore more ways to interact with our games, we’re also finding more ways we can tell stories through game systems, and that can only be a good thing.

But gamers aren’t the only group of people to exist, and virtual worlds you can explore, infused with story and meaning, could still have a very important purpose. Art games are not the future of videogames. But they might just be the future of art."

Linger in shadows was really interesting, not sure what to call it, but I certainly enjoyed it.

As a game and an artist, it makes me very excited to see independent developers to gain success through an artistically beautiful game with innovative elements of gameplay. Linger in Shadows and Flower are great examples. In all honesty, I never particularly enjoyed "playing" either of those two games but I LOVED watching them. They truly are Art.

I enjoyed both interactive videos. Sony is the only console that brings these pieces of interactive art on the marktet. The small price I had to pay for Linger in Shadows was well worth it and Behind the Bullet is for free.

Thanks for the article! I enjoyed it.

i've only played flower and it was awesome especially after an intense session of Killzone2. will definately give some other PSN games a go.

sonarus5525d ago

hmmm surprised MK2 is still going. I wish they could have made the game playable on psp

unrealgamer585525d ago

but on topic good to see burnout paradise still on the list and mk 2 still getting love

table5525d ago

nobody has heard of it in the UK though and they seemed to have stopped showing it(used to be on the lesser watched channels). Shame because I love the program.

I wonder what the numbers are actually like; is it in the thousands (very likily), tens of thousands, or is spot number ten in the hundreds.

With sharing up to 5 different PS3s, how did that affect the sales, so on so forth
