Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice perma death feature isnt exactly what the fans and the gaming community had made it out to be

I have it and im playing it, this permadeath thing is story related and makes sense, honestly i welcome it with a open arms. And im playing it on hard. Btw you can play this game on easier difficulty or have it on auto which is a cool option.

Nacho_Z2472d ago

It's early and my brain is only functioning at 30% capacity so this might be a stupid question, what's auto mode something to do with difficulty level?

Ceaser98573612472d ago

nacho

Auto mode will automatically change your difficulty level depending on how you play....

Gazondaily2472d ago

I like the idea of permadeath tbh. As long as you don't get shafted because some silly autosave made death unavoidable I think it would really add tension to the proceedings.

I praise Ninja Theory for the move

CobraKai2472d ago

Fantastic idea to drive the player to succeed in relation to the story.

Summons752472d ago

Here come the apologists to defend another one of Ninja Theory's awful decisions.

Gazondaily2472d ago

Awful in your opinion. What happened to having a challenge?

Heck it reminds me of the good old days when you couldn't even save games and had finite number of lives

Summons752472d ago

It's nothing like those days as that was because of technical restraints and to get more money out of people in arcades. This is just trying to pad out their pathetically short walking simulator by throwing enemies you can't kill in front of you then unjustly punishing you. For a game that is supposed to be about mental illness, they sure are insinuating that people with mental illness just give up on everything if they fail enough which is insulting to them. Sorry, there is no excuse for shitty development choices.

Goldby2472d ago

And there seems to be no excuse for someone who doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.

Bathyj2472d ago

Well you seem to have given up already and you haven't even played it I'm guessing. Sorry about your illness.

littlezizu2472d ago

Actually game doesn't ve perma death it was marketing stunt to effect the players Psychology even before the play as the protagonist in the game deals with mental issues.
PC gamers tested it with over 50 death and no perma death.

rainslacker2471d ago

Well...nice that little psychological thing got spoiled by people acting like the dev failed in some way. Way to go internet.

Maybe they should patch it to make it random so maybe you can permadeath, and maybe you can't. At least keep the fear alive. Seems like the uncertainty and fear would fit the themes of the game.

UCForce2472d ago

For what ? You can angry about their decision. But the thing is that this is dev choice. I need to remind you this that Definition of gaming is everything. It's the freedom of choice. It's all used to be about gameplay and that's still fact today. But video game evolve each decade, it open the endless of possibilities. Every sites praise this game for gameplay mechanics and narrative, not because they are bias, but because they understand what it is. EuroGamers gave Hellblade a high praise because they understand what this game is. It's still your opinion and I won't judge that. But you failed to understand.

Dark_Knightmare22472d ago

So a playtime of 6 to 10 hours is pathetically short for a 30 dollar game gtho. How about you actually play the game before you criticize and don't you dare say you did after that asinine comment you made about "oh they are insinuating that people with mental illness just give up if they fail enough" which isn't what is happening. She gets infected with something called rot from hela so the permadeath ties into the story it's not just there to be there or as you put it to put people with mental illness down so gtho

Summons752472d ago

lol please continue the pathetic attempts to justify shitty decisions. I work with people with mental illness so I see every day the victories they can achieve not by giving up. I've read the reviews, a lot haven't been good. I'd rather buy a good game than shit crap any day. It's NT so you knew the crap you were paying for before you bought it.

Goldby2471d ago

@Summons

81 on Metacritic
Steam has 88% of the 1700 reviews as very positive.

cut the crap summons. for someone who apparently works with people with mental illnesses, you dont seem to know much about the actual illness.

this game is very accurate in its portrayal of psychosis. how do i know this, i deal with psychosis on a daily basis. you seem to just be negative.

rainslacker2471d ago

Summons

You have failed to fully explain why it's a shitty decision, so at this time, I feel the impetus is on you to make a strong case for why this is somehow worthy of consideration to criticize the developer over. If you want to avoid it, that's fine, but your acting like everyone should feel the same way. You can't go and say that it's just your opinion when you say anyone who disagrees is nothing more than an apologist.

So, go ahead....make a strong case why this is a bad decision.

2472d ago
OffRoadKing2472d ago

I have a easy solution for you, dont play it and then you dont have to worry about anyone apologizing for it.

Dark_Knightmare22471d ago

So an 81 metacritic score and 88 percent positive on steam are crap reviews lol just give it up

The_Sage2471d ago

So... What you're saying is that you suck at games and die often, Summons?

rainslacker2471d ago

Why is it an awful decision?

Don't we go on about how developers should be able to make the games they want?

Seems they made this feature in a way that relates to the actual game instead of just being some new way to implement an arbitrary lives system. To me, that's actually an innovation on an antiquated system, and deserves to be recognized. Was it because the game is short? Maybe. but the dev did it in a way that is built into the design of the game itself.

One can be against what they're doing, but to think that people who are OK with it, or don't care, are just apologist is just one acting like their opinion is the only one that matters.

The dev is under no obligation to appease people who feel they need an autosave feature so they can just not have to replay the whole game if they do poorly. So long as the game is balanced and plays well, then what's the problem? You, as a customer are under no obligation to buy the game if you think this will be a problem for you. But you not agreeing with what they choose does not make it a bad decision.

By all means, share the names of game companies that make perfect games with zero flaws.

It's only the 3D born players bitching about it.. 90% of these little snowflakes wouldn't be able to finish a single game in the 8 and 16bit era.

chris2352472d ago

harm already done. i am sure the devs are thrilled about today's blogger's approach to creating news ;-)

Waiting to see what the "Recommended" spec be like!

Skuletor13d ago

Waiting to see if "Minimum" spec targets 30fps 😂

PassNextquestion13d ago

It's my understanding that the frame rate is unlocked on the pc version

Skuletor13d ago

@PassNextquestion
I've seen Ubisoft have PC specs that have targeted 30fps before.

PassNextquestion13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Why the heck do you need Windows 11 to run the game? I remember there was a ssd feature locked to windows 11 not sure if that's still the case and if that's the reason.. direct storage I believe it is called

DivineHand12513d ago

If those are the minimum specs on PC then why can't the series x do more than 30 fps? Did they intentionally lock it to 30 fps when higher frame rates are possible?

PassNextquestion13d ago

Maybe they didn't want to compromise on the graphics

DarXyde13d ago

Very probable, but I can't really believe that when literally, the Series S ensures that they do.

I kind of think they just want to make it 30fps now to make an update later to keep people "on the hook" or give game pass subs something to look forward to with this game later on.

Personally, I think this game can push at least 45fps, but that's just my opinion. I don't really see a game this short being announced before TLOU2 launched, only to come out *now* and they haven't gotten those frames up.

RedDeadLB13d ago

Probably because they wanted better fidelity and that is probably too demanding for the XSX to push a stable 60fps on. Judging how most games are these days, the performance difference between low to high is sometimes not enough to target double the framerate. A locked, smooth 30fps i better than an unstable 60, even though it feels like picking between two turds.
