Nioh is also my favorite along side with Horizon Zero Dawn.

XanderZane2487d ago

Both are great games indeed. The console market was revitalized last gen, so all it did was carry over to this gen. Total consoles sales are around 95+ million right now. It's obviously doing a bit better then last generation.

deafdani2487d ago

I think it's still a bit too soon to say that this generation is performing better than last.

Last gen, Nintendo sold 100 million consoles, and Sony and Microsoft around 85 million each (although we have to accound for some of these sales being due to the RROD and YLOD fiascos, but still, that's a lot of consoles sold).

270 million consoles last gen... vs. 110 million so far this gen (PS4 + Xbox One + Wii U). It got so bad, that Nintendo had to put out Wii U's sucessor a bit earlier than usual, and the Switch is STILL considered part of this gen. It's weird.

All in all, we're almost 4 years into the current generation (5 if you count Wii U), and the total of consoles sold is still very far behind that of last gen. About 160 million short, in fact.

Definitely too soon to say that this gen is doing better than last. Last gen was insane in terms of sales numbers overall, especially if you consider that last gen also sold more than 150 million DS units and more than 80 million PSPs... and this gen, Vita is barely 16 million and 3DS around 65 million...

MVGeneral2487d ago

Deafdani.
Most of the Wii's 100 million were casuals and mom and pops /grandpas and ma's. They didn't buy games that weren't Nintendo made. So it really didn't make a difference because they didn't drive game sales all that much.
The new crowd actually buys games. Even the 60million ps4. Check vgchartz the most sold games of all time are ps4 launches.

badz1492487d ago

the PS4 single handedly carry this whole gen much like the PS2 did during the 6th Gen. the Wii U is a failure while the Xbone is slowly falling behind the 360 in terms of sales in the same period. last gen can't be replicated again if you count handhelds because if the 3DS is struggling to achieve PSP numbers, nothing else can do anything to revitalize that segment of the market. mobile is taking over and it looks to continue that way.

XanderZane2487d ago

@deafdani
The Switch is 9th gen. It has nothing to do with the Wii or Wii U. (Wii was 7th gen, Wii U was 8th gen).
Yes, I forgot the OG Wii was last gen. I was only adding the Wii U sales (with is this gen). So you're right. This gen is behind last gen in sales. Still kind of proves my point that last gen we already had huge sales and a lot of that carried over to this gen.

@MVGeneral
The Nintendo Wii had not only more hardware sales, but also more software sales then the XBox 360 and PS3 last gen. So yes, it did drive software sales through the roof. Mario Kart (Wii) sold over 35 million copies. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sold over 7 million. If that's not driving sales, I don't know what it. Last gen gamers bought way more games then this gen so far. They have a long ways to go.

AmUnRa2487d ago

Yes but the biggest part of that sold consolemarket is in the hands of Sony.
So yeah Sony is doing better with the PS4 as with the PS3.

And Microsoft is doing worse with the Xbox One than they did with the Xbox360😉

XanderZane2487d ago

@AmUnRa
The Wii U is doing even worse then the Wii. For some reason you failed to mention that though. lol!!
Obviously... just another fanboy troll. SPAM. Your bridge is over there.

Glad to knoe NiOh is still selling great. Good job PS4 owners for supporting this game. Bring on NiOh 2.

Phill-Spencer2487d ago

Agreed. Nioh is still my goty so far!

Segata2487d ago

Japan X means Cross. So whenever you see a title of a game with X in the title it means cross with the exception of games like FFX. X is also cancel. Xbox One in Japan is just Crossboxcancel One.

MegamanXXX2487d ago

The One X is not going to do anything for gaming or the console market imo

RAM0N 2487d ago

nioh is good just started replaying it again.

Istolla2487d ago

Breath of the Wild is my favorite game of all time. I'm playing Horizon Zero Dawn now and it's beautiful but I wish the physics was as good as BotW though.

badz1492487d ago

so...you prefer cartoon physics?

The 10th Rider2487d ago

I mean, I think his complaint is a bit stupid as the physics are a big part of Breath of the Wild and they're obviously not a huge part of the gameplay of Horizon Zero Dawn, so the comparison is unnecessary and pointless. It's like saying the shooting mechanics are better in Call of Duty than in Metroid or something.

But besides that, what the heck is "cartoon physics" supposed to mean?

Istolla2487d ago

I prefer if my character jumps in water there be an actual splash.

badz1492487d ago

what I meant by cartoon physics is physics that look like they make sense but unrealistic. it's like preferring NFS driving mechanics to GT for example

EddieNX 2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

Cartoon physics? BOTW has amazing physics, better than most games and certainly way better than Horizon. Zelda is clearly a much better game. Next you will be saying Knack is better than Mario 😆😆😆

badz1492487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

@EddieNX

that's rich coming from someone who said Mario Kart 8 is better than any racing game this gen.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

Yeah wait til you see these two videos then.

So much for setting grass or plants on fire and it not burning.

EddieNX 2487d ago

Badz Mario kart 8 is the best racing game this gen, the best racing sim is Forza 6 so far, neither of which are on your precious PS4. Go and get past 5000 vr on MK8 an come back to me

remixx1162487d ago

@otaku

Ok now lets make a video comparing their combat, voice acting, story, music and bosses.

Of course you don't wanna see your precious game lose that fight.

Also @Eddie, you claim those 2 games aren't on ps4, we'll what about the myriad of games that aren't on your precious switch. horizon, persona 5, nier, nioh, uncharted, the last guardian etc etc have all scored amazingly.

You people need to get the bias outta your ads and just admit both have great games.

The 10th Rider2487d ago

@badz149,

Breath of the Wild has about as realistic of a physics system as you're going to get in an open-world adventure game. You're asking if Istolla would prefer those "cartoon physics" . . . So you would prefer physics that perfectly mimic real-life instead of physics that support the gameplay in the best way possible? It's a game, not a simulation. Some racing games are different because they are a simulation. You'd be hard pressed to find ANY adventure game that is aims to be a simulation.

Silly gameAr2487d ago

@EddieNX

Ok, I enjoyed Breath of the Wild too, but I'm tired of people overrating this game. It's not the greatest game of all time, and honestly it's not the best Zelda game that I've played. That's only my opinion, but stop with this bs please.

Segata2487d ago

HZD on this Sony fansite is god so disagreeing with anything other than that will get the boos here. Don't worry about it. You're right the Physics are phenomenal in BotW. It's what allows the player so much freedom in creativity unlike any other game we have seen in years let alone this gen.

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. "

Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware.

Xeofate18h ago

"Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware."

It's for the best.

Quit stringing along xbox fans and screwing over PlayStation owners.

crazyCoconuts13h ago

Take good care of those Xboxes if you have 'em ...

outsider162413h ago

An Xbox game on a Playstation. Never in my years of gaming did i ever thought this was gonna happen.

jznrpg9h ago

It is dying anyway so doesn’t make much of a difference

VersusDMC8h ago

No way can they get rid of the hardware as probably 90% of game pass subscribers are hardware users.

Highly doubtful those users will move to PC or Cloud to subscribe there and the competition (Sony and Nin) will never have gamepass on their system.

If they want to keep the current subscribers, they need to keep releasing new hardware.

PSPSA21m ago

I'm not convinced, why then announce that they're actually working on the next-generation Xbox with “the largest technical leap”, and also looking into handhelds now?

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit17h ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS14h ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies12h ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

shadowT19h ago

"Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation"

Forza and Starfield next?

Skuletor17h ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff218317h ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.

-Foxtrot18h ago

In the words of Phil Spencer when he was talking about Nintendo last year

“It's just taking a long time for Microsoft to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

S2Killinit17h ago

Yup. MS are a cancer to console gaming.

Aloymetal16h ago

100%!!
I wonder what happened to that dude that was always here posting those court articles with cartoons about MS spending all those billions in studios. He suddenly disappeared, I guess he doesn't like bad news when the green brand is in trouble. No new articles from him as of late...

PRIMORDUS14h ago

Yup, and it's only going to keep spreading.

Phil Spencer's words always comes back to bite him lol

Epic Games Faces $1.2 Million Fine Over "Unfair Practices," Plans to Fight Back

Epic Games is facing a $1.2 million fine by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets over "unfair practices" in the Fortnite shop.

Sciurus_vulgaris1d 11h ago

It might be cheaper to simply pay the fine. Fighting said fine could cost millions due to court and lawyer fees. Fortnite generates well over a 100 million in each month, so Epic has plenty of cash.

franwex1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

But if they did pay it, then they are basically admitting that they did something they weren’t supposed to be doing. If they fight it, they may win and continue to have a sense of urgency for their micro transactions thus making more money long term.

Goodguy0119h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Meaning more suits to follow from others if they don't fight as well.

Not a fan of Epic nor fortnite and their micro transactions. But the game is heavily supported and is free to play, all store items are completely cosmetic.

1d 1h ago
Furesis22h ago

I'd fight back too. These are kinda meaningless reasons to fine someone like really for THAT. It's like they just wanted to make money or something.

Sephiroushin12h ago

There is a law for something, but even if its stupid follow it because if you break it you pay for it; if they knew they cant place a “buy now” in NL then just dont do it!

Yeaaa... no. It's cool to say that you got it running as a bragging right, but this is completely unusable. I like how he hits the screen while trying to type! X'D

Vits20h ago

I mean it always start like this. Ubuntu was the same, started with just being able to load the GUI, now people can play classic PC titles like Fable and Warcraft 3 as well as emulate GC, Wii, 3DS and PS2 on their Switch. With Windows things are definitely harder because Windows on Arm is pretty garbo, but who knows in a couple of years.
