Oh boy!
When are Microsoft going to learn?

tyasia02488d ago

From the billions they spent on the NFL deal.

4Sh0w2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

Nothing to learn except advertising works. Of course content to back it up matters more but that said Microsoft used to advertise alot more than they have this gen, in fact Sony has out advertised Microsoft this gen so far.

Major_Glitch2487d ago

@4show "advertising works"? Oh, is that why MS is losing this gen?

4Sh0w2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

"Oh, is that why MS is losing this gen?"

-When did I say that?...Never even implied it, what I did say is:

"Of course content to back it up matters more"

-So my comment only means that advertising is important but not the be all end all of the equation. Surely more content=games AND advertising would help Xbox, right? -If Im wrong, please by all means, I love to hear your counter arguement to that. ???? Just as I thought Crickets.

lol, reading comprehension kid, try harder next time.

Microsoft spent 400 million on the NFL marketing deal, not billions. This deal sounds different though. More like a sponsor for events and such.

lxeasy2487d ago

Soccer is a popular sport which is why Fifa sells so we'll. It's smart that they sponsor them.

RommyReigns2487d ago

FIFA sells so well every year because of the licensing. If football/soccer games sell on the quality of the gameplay then PES would be winning the sales battle since 2014.

EatCrow2487d ago

Yes. You must be right. Who wants sponsorship. Screw companies looking for sponsors.

Major_Glitch2487d ago

Instead of spending that money advertising, maybe they should try spending that money on, I don't know, making games? They kinda need it...desperately.

2pacalypsenow2487d ago

They have budgets for marketing set aside.

Interesting marketing tactic.

S2Killinit2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

Love the team. But dont care much for the console one way or another.

I think its smart business, but then i remember that the money could have been used to make games. So i dont know.

81BX2487d ago

So if you spend money on advertising you can't spend it on devs?

S2Killinit2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

Apparently not going by how Microsoft handles xbox. Otherwise whats the hold up?

Here is the new 2017 porsche gts and we made it exclusive to forza... and im like... why???

And you have to wonder. Why not place your trust in GAMING developers instead. I know its not sexy, but spend that money on a geeky looking young developer who might create something classic.

81BX2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

I guess you haven't been around much this gen. Trust in devs is shown by the number of new games coming from MS this gen, not to mention their investment in indies or backward compatibility. Those are all backed by devs... devs who feed their families with the money they get from those projects. Now maybe MS isn't pumping out the correct # of games for you, but let's not act like they aren't dev friendly.

rainslacker2487d ago

Since you're a soccer guy, I have an off topic question.

I've seen this Real Madrid mentioned a lot, but was curious if there's a fake Madrid.

The Real qualifier to the team title always seemed odd to me.

RommyReigns2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

The 'Real' (pronounced 'Ray-aal') in Real Madrid means 'Royal', so basically it's 'Royal Madrid'. There is no 'fake Madrid' because the term 'Real' in Real Madrid is used as a Spanish word and not as the English word. There are other teams which use the word 'Real' including Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Real Zaragoza. Other teams have the word associated with them but are not as commonly used like Celta Vigo (Real Club Celta Vigo), Deportivo La Coruna (Real Club Deportivo La Coruna) and Espanyol (Real Club Deportivo Espanyol (or RCD Espanyol)).

Hope that helps :)

rainslacker2486d ago

Thanks for clearing that up. All these years I just thought it was being pretentious.:)

Nice to learn something new.

RommyReigns2487d ago

Hala Madrid!

Yeah it kinda feels the same as loving PES but seeing their advertising and partnerships with the enemy Barcelona.

alb18992487d ago

Incredible, even that is bad thing to do because is MS? Some here must have mind problem.

Ricegum2487d ago

I agree. I'm a Sony fan but this is a good deal for Microsoft. I'm sure it'll pay off for them.

one2thr2487d ago

Good deal yes, but why isn't this same effort being put towards acquiring or creating 1st party studios?

Thats the mind problem.

Perjoss2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

Not the kind of team they should be signing up with right now. Unless those players also know how to program, voice act, model and animate.

2pacalypsenow2487d ago (Edited 2487d ago )

What does that have to do with anything? Real Madrid is one the biggest clubs in Europe with a huge fanbase, or do you think gaming companies only partner with game developers?

andrewsquall2487d ago

......Who are disgusted or not by the Xbox brand and deal like this won't make a single difference to change that.

Christopher2487d ago

I think he's referring to their 'acting' on the pitch as opposed to their football skills on the pitch.

Perjoss2487d ago

I know who Real Madrid are, I just think they should be investing in creating some first party teams to make some exclusives for the 1x, because right now they have everyone a little confused by their strategy to sell that console.

AzubuEntus2487d ago

Had Sony made the partnership with Real Madrid instead of Microsoft, Sony fanboys would be partying throughout this entire weekend.

PlayStation Had The Chance To Steal FIFA From EA In The '90s, But Passed

"I think EA would have responded quite badly to that"

If there’s an organization that is more corrupt than EA, it’s for sure FIFA.

I also agree that EA has done more for FIFA on brand awareness too. I know of people that thought FIFA was an EA brand similar to Madden instead of their own independent organization.

Profchaos214d ago

Probably a good call on Sony's part given the relationship they needed to build with ea over time and given the era if EA didn't want something they found ways around it such as building their own unlicensed games and bypassing console copyright protection on 16 bit systems to avoid paying licensing

XiNatsuDragnel214d ago

Fifa with playstation I would've preferred that over EA now tbh.

Seraphim214d ago

guess you don't remember how bad those Sony sports titles were in the 90s. The only exception would be NBA Shootout '97 which was phenomenal.

shinoff2183213d ago

Idk what that means. Nfl GameDay was fun as fk.

FinalFantasyFanatic214d ago

I never liked sports games personally, except for ESPN Extreme Games, that was fun for me back in the day.

gold_drake213d ago

the Fifa people are some of the scummiest people there is, even outside of the gaming industry.

good on that sony ceo for actually talking to EA first and letting them know what happened.

anast213d ago

The career mode would have been way better.

First I don't think ms would get the nod, they wouldn't be able to get away with it being exclusives. Second it's to big of a game to just put on gamepass and call it a day. I think Konami , sega or 2k could do it justice.

Knightofelemia395d ago

Konami made or should I say farmed out a soccer game and it was a piece of broken shit.

XbladeTeddy394d ago

Konami making a football game? Just no. They dropped the ball on that one with their poor version.

EA have cemented a name for themselves with football games. Minus the crappy practises the core gameplay is unbeaten.

badboyz09395d ago

2K are the best option they also just purchased The Top Eleven Developer's in 2021.

TheColbertinator395d ago

Even if you get the license, what matters is getting the clubs and leagues that matter to fans. I'd pay good money to anyone who can get every team in the Top 5 Leagues and their stadiums to boot. EA has come close.

XbladeTeddy394d ago

"Even if you get the license, what matters is getting the clubs and leagues that matter to fans"

No, gameplay matters most. EA will do that without a license.

franwex395d ago

They could, but the price is obscene.

FIFA’s New Game Decisions Make EA Games Looks Better

Gamerterra writes: "FIFA recently announced its first four games after its long-term partnership with EA ended, and these new games make EA games look really consumer friendly. All four ‘games’ are blockchain projects built with Web 3.0 for the 2022 World Cup."

That's like saying Mephistopheles is nicer than Satan.

anast545d ago

This is funny, even EA thought FIFIA's blockchain proposal was too much.
