WipEout Omega Collection Sells an Estimated 99K Units First Week at Retail

The futuristic anti-gravity racing collection game from Sony Interactive Entertainment - WipEout Omega Collection - sold 98,647 units first week at retail on the PlayStation 4, according to VGChartz estimates.

This is just retail, and this release will have legs due to its huge content making it a great value proposal, particularly at around $19.90 or 17.49€. I would imagine that between the original Wipeout HD PS3 release and now, the retail and digital purchase barometers have switched their positions, especially for these kind of low cost, good value, rich content titles that takes only third of an AAA titles HDD / SSD space and is otherwise suited for digital distribution much better. It's a good showcase for 4K native TVs in HDR, so when people buy Pro and 4K TVs more, then this title will be purchased to show them off.

Furthermore, it took probably around nine to twelve months to make the title, and given the amount of the assets they had available (possibly even some high resolution textures ready for 4K), they probably are making a nice profit out of let's say a guestimate: 200.000 copies.

GT6 was released when there was a good 75-80 million PS3's out there. Doesn't matter that the PS4 was released at a similar time. Sales have been on the decrease with every iteration.

I never said that the games don't still sell well, you are mistaking my facts as some sort of defense here. Merely pointing out that Gran Turismo sales have gone down with each release. Maybe that will change with GT Sport, maybe not.

For me the only reason i bought this collection was to see it in 4K on my Pro.
People would of played the various Wipeout games found in the collection either last gen, or on there Vita.
I'm not too surprised by the number but it seems a massive shame, a full Next Gen Wipeout game would of performed better.

You cant win them all but to those who have not picked this up do yourself the favour, its a great fast paced racer and highly addictive. Now I know if you are working on a budget like myself its not always possible but if do get it, you wont regret it.

It's priced to high is the first problem. The second problem is these types of racers have lost popularity over the years. I use to love the wipe out series and would have bought this game without hesitation if it were say $20.

This is a remaster of a ps3 digital only title, who on earth expected more? This is better than I even thought it'd do. Great racer but it's not a new game or hyped. It's all bonus money.
