IGN writes: "Author Tad Williams' science fiction series Otherland is being developed into a new massively multiplayer online game. Developed by DTP Entertainment of Germany and its games studio Real U in Singapore, the game promises a new and unique gamer experience. The gameplay is distinguished by a unique narrative structure. Instead of herding players through the story, players will experience their own individual stories within the Otherland universe, and the game world will change dynamically around them during the course of the game.
In Williams' own words, Otherland is The Lord of the Rings epic of our era. In the near future, a group of rich and powerful people have created a virtual reality (VR) world for themselves. What they discover is that people can get trapped in this VR universe. What happens to you in this VR universe is real and dangerous. So does this mean this is an MMO about playing an MMO? Not quite. "The book," said Williams, 'is about the future of interactivity. The game takes ideas from it and uses it as a jump-off point. You don't have to have read the books to be able to understand or to play the game.'"
Otherland is a free to play fantasy-SciFi action MMORPG based on the novels written by Tad Williams. In it, you embark on an adventure spanning multiple universes throughout various types of worlds. Join the PVP fray or relax and battle the hordes of PVE enemies that are bound to get in your way.
In honor of the Otherland IP's 21st anniversary, a number of Otherland MMO announcements are planned over the next few weeks.
They should just remake the game in Unreal Engine 4. So much wasted potential with this IP.
The Otherland free-to-play open beta test is announced with dates, community events and a brief on what's been added to the multiverse MMO.
I don't know about the game but the books were fantastic. I hope they can pull it off.
