Xbox One Store will offer The Ability to Gift Games

"Microsoft is bringing game gifting to the Xbox One store, giving shoppers the ability to purchase titles for their friends. Mike Ybarra, Xbox vice president, confirmed the news on Twitter, and said the feature’s release is “not far” off."

Microsoft continues to give consumers more options and updates

4Sh0w2502d ago

Yep, gonna be easier to give my nephews games now.

Null19802502d ago

Awesome. Sep I'm going to write up a Christmas list of XB1 games for you to gift me. ;D

(I'll mail you some socks.)

Null19802502d ago

Lol Sep, these people are hatin' on our friendship. At least you know I'm playing around.

Eonjay2502d ago

This is something I would like to see on PlayStation

Gazondaily2502d ago

Otter, quick, disassociate yourself from.me before it's too late! 🤣

"Microsoft continues to give consumers more options and updates"

They are giving consumers other options rather than exclusive games. I saw a lot of people getting excited about Microsoft supposedly making a game like horizon zero dawn which won't be out for about 3 to 5 years which is pathetic. They should have had a lot of games being made to launch with Xbox one x. If Microsoft Xbox one gets outsold 2.5 to 1 by the PlayStation 4 when they launched at the same time can you imagine how a ps5 will trounce the next xbox that most likely will launch a year after the ps5. Microsoft probably won't launch a new console because of all the perks Sony will get for selling a lot of ps4. I highly doubt Microsoft will get any exclusive deals from third party devs.

The Xbox one is a waste and the xbox one x is a massive waste. Some people think 4k resolution and 4k assets on xbox one x will render all ps4 games rubbish and make them look like super Nintendo games. I had high hopes when I bought my Xbox one at launch but Microsoft has made and broken too many promises. They'll do everything except bring exclusive games.

Null19802502d ago

Yea? My XB1 library is on PC & runs better. Boom. Distanced, Sep. XD

pinkcrocodile752502d ago (Edited 2502d ago )

@JaguarEvolved JESUS! Talk about bile.

On topic: Great idea from Xbox, lets hope PlayStation follow suit.

indysurfn2501d ago

Micorosoft needs to give me the option to browse their games without seeing the same game in the list 20 times. Just to make it look like they have as many game as Sony. That is annoying and is only fooling the most blindly loyal fan. Come on. I want to just look at GENRE fighting games and I also dont want to see the same game in their 20 times.

This is definitely a cool idea. Props

I've been waiting for this

babadivad2502d ago

Do they allow you to "gift" already purchased games? Like transfer your license to another person? If so, that's some next level shit right there. I would be ALL over that.

The way things are now, since I buy nearly 100% of my games digitally, I have to do the clunky game share thing on Xbox.

I can share all my games and even play online with my brother with the same game. Only thing is, I will need to be online to play my purchased games when sharing them out.

There are pros and cons to both approaches, but I would much rather be able to just give away the licence to a game I don't want anymore so I can play all my digital games regardless of my internet connection.

Come on MS. Get it done.

LOGICWINS2502d ago

That's a good idea, but people would abuse it somehow

fenome2502d ago

That would be badass, even if they charged your friend $20 and you only got like $5, it would still be cool. I know they're all worried about the "used game" market, but it would be cool if you could just pass around your "digital licensing agreement" just like you can a disk. You pay the same price, so why not?

Palitera2502d ago

That was included in their always online plan. It was severely miscommunicated and people didn't even want to consider it.
The plan was somewhat bad, though, as retailers were somehow involved in this resell practice.

So, considering this:
1. I don't think MS will do it "for free".
2. I don't believe in their good will of doing this in a consumer friendly manner.

But yeah, resellable digital copies would be a heavy shake on the industry.

joab7772502d ago

It's one of those ideas ya wonder why it hasn't been introduces before. Like when I got a DS4, I wondered why previous controllers were so bad lol!

Microsoft has implementing a ton of consumer/gamer friendly features this generation, and I have to say I'm really loving it. For a company that was thought to be anti consumer at the beginning of the generation, under the leadership of Phil Spencer, they have really stepped it up.

BiggerBoss2502d ago

Nobody can deny that Phil has been implementing a lot of consumer features. It's just a shame he doesn't seem interested in investing in first party studios.

LOGICWINS2502d ago

That's not true. Phils only been Head of Xbox for 3-4 years. Building first-party relationships/games takes time. So

Kiwi662502d ago

How do you know that he isn't interested as he does have to answer to his boss and the shareholders, so its not as easy as simply saying "lets spend millions of dollars on something that may or may not pan out" as they would have to way up the risk vs reward, but if you think that you could do better then why not try and convince MS to replace him with you

BiggerBoss2502d ago

@Logic

What new studios has he opened/bought? All he's done is close studios.

@KIWI

Sony has much less money than Microsoft and they don't seem to have the same problem (lack of studios). Soooo

timotim2502d ago

If all fails, push the "no games" talking points huh? 😕

First party games is not the topic of discussion here, but even there, I like what I'm seeing. Microsoft has always been more about providing games to there eco system vs just raw quantity of internal studio games. At E3 they showed a ton of games I can't wait to play on Xbox and will be doing so first before other platforms. Even more is coming and I can't wait to see what they bring.

BiggerBoss2502d ago

@Timotim

Did you just say you're fine that Xbox doesn't have AAA exclusives, because it gets timed indie exclusives? Is that the point you're trying to make?

4Sh0w2502d ago (Edited 2502d ago )

Nah BiggerBoss,

It's just a time and place for everything, it's like no matter what good news there is you show up and turn on the broken record of "no games"....and while most have admitted a thousand times this year hasn't produced enough AAA games for my taste, the no games is BS. Also contrary to ps fanboys belief Sony themselves have admitted to the ps4 being "sparse" in terms of exclusive games. https://www.gamespot.com/ar...
Now Sony drops a couple of good games then you ps fanboys conveniently try act like ps is the only console with games, pffft ps still has LESS games I like compared to Xbox so nobody cares what you think in Xbox threads, go play your "tons" of 1st party ps games.

Prince_TFK2502d ago (Edited 2502d ago )

As much as I love it, exclusive is not the end all be all of a console. Look at the WiiU, great exclusive but the lack of 3rd parties came to its demise.

Whenever MS does something right, all we hear from this site is "But Exclusivezzzz!" That word seem to be gospel around here. I love exclusives as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous and starting to sound like a broken record.

timotim2502d ago (Edited 2502d ago )

No, I didn't say that. What I said is I like both AAA and indie exclusives that see from Microsoft and look forward to more in the future. But keep pushing those talking points.

LandoCalrissiano2502d ago

They did invest in first party studios, then lionhead took more than 4 years to make fable 4 (which is a crap load of dead money) so they axed them..WHICH PISSES ME OFF! I want fable 4 dammit. One of my all time favorites and they killed it! Another group really needs to revive it.

I don't know how all the consoles don't have this! Multiple times I've wanted to gift a game to a buddy quick so we could play together

BiggerBoss2502d ago

I'm pretty sure PayPal allows a gifting option. It's an extra step, but it's something.

If my friend doesn't have XBL Gold then I'd have to send him enough to buy a game full price as opposed to buying a game at a discount because I have Gold and then sending it to my silver peasant of a friend.
