Cuphead will also be on Steam and GOG, not just Xbox One and Windows Store

Cuphead was heard to be only releasing on Xbox One and Windows Store, but it seems that this is not the case. StudioMDHR confirmed on NeoGAF that the PC version of Cuphead will be launching on Steam and GOG, not just on Windows Store.

It's a completely refreshing game, with an old 30's era cartoon artstyle, plus it's gonna be available on Xbox, pc Windows and Steam. So no excuses let's make it successful vs complaining about too many sequels, cash grab remakes and copycat games.

I highly doubt Steam will have much interest in cross-play with Microsoft given that Microsoft has basically put themselves in direct competition with Steam with the UWP and the Windows store and Steam and Gabe's statements in the past about Microsoft's plans pretty much confirm that.

So great to hear that Cuphead isn't a true exclusive as I have some PC gamer friends who only ever buy from Steam! Kudos to Microsoft for featuring the game on the Xbox E3 stage multiple times and giving the game exposure. I read the story about how the developers remortgaged their houses to pay for the game and now they will have a chance to make their money back. If the game turns out to be good the developers could make a lot of money!

Yeah, it's a great move by them....a lot of pc gamers hate the windows store. It'll likely sale more on steam than Windows and xbox combined. Glad to see these guys have a good chance to make money. They sacrificed a lot to make it.

Xbox is not competing with PC. Consoles in general are not competing with PC. Nothing MS could do short of just making the Xbox a PC could make me get one. I'd pay more money for less powerful hardware to own a PC instead, just because the games have proper options menus and it's backwards compatible back to like the mid 1960s.

Putting it on PC is not doing any harm to Xbox.

No, you don't need Xbox only content to sell it. You can sell things with the actual hardware, you can sell things with customer service, you can sell things with pricing, ect. No platform needs exclusies to sell it or make it worth picking over any other in order to justify owning it. Exclusives are a way to attempt to coerce you into buying it not because they actually offer anything better, but because they hold games hostage.

From what I understand Microsoft helped foot the bill of the development process for the game. They probably worked a deal to benefit both sides to keep it limited to PC and Xbox, even if it's for a limited time.

I mean Aenea's comment points out that it being exclusive to Xbox and PC means they are missing out on 60mil ps owners BUT so what if you have made the game available to essentially 500+mil potential install base. Honestly even optimistic sells are about 3-4mil lifetime fir a game like this, who cares of how you get there, ps4 wouldnt drastically change that since most ps4 fans intetested dont even need a powerful pc to play it. I mean more is more but by that logic why doesn't Microsoft just fund games and sell them on Xbox, pc AND playstation???? He'll why doesn't Sony put their games on every platform too???

Also it doesn't make sense to suggest that every 3rd party should go with the larger install base either because that doesnt consider factors such as people in the business form relationships based on who believed in their project when no one else did, and when you consider that relationship gave you the ability to make the game you are passionate about, let you sell it on a console and plus a huge install base like the pc platform, why do I NEED to sell it on the competing platform?
