NoobFeed writes: "Every E3 is always full of surprises, but it seems that E3 2017 is likely to be the most unexpected event in years. All the publishers and companies have grown and learned from their past experiences, which lead to some streamlining for some and experimentation for others."
Skewed and Reviewed kick off 2024 with a look at the need for in-person game conventions with the End of E3 and compares the cost-cutting methods of Hollywood who still value in-person events.
so, this article didnt tell me why we NEED to have in-person shows like e3, other than the authors nostalgia and remembrance of covering one of these shows.
but it also doesnt mention everyone outside of america who have never had the chance to see it in person either haha
we had to watch the darn livestream, if they had it available, at 3am in the morning haha with lags amd crashes (not all the time)
while i think these shows are great and all, i dont really "need" to have them. people are busy, im busy. id rather watch a livestream than to book a flight, a hotel etc.
but theres still pax and all of that.
I'd rather publishers send out closed betas to garner gamer concern and interest like how we had demos back in the day.
I don't miss E3 as much as I loved it at one point but that era is long gone.
Sad to see it go. It was a great event for gamers and developers all around the world getting together and celebrate gaming as a community.
The announcements of new games/hardware, hype, surprises and seeing live audience reactions, it's something only events like E3 are able to bring. It will be missed...
if its going to be anything like the game awards where celebrities that dont even play games are there and its just full of fluff and commercial crap than no we dont need in person shows. we just end up watching the trailer montages the next day anyway.
To be honest E3 was one of my favorite times of the years when I was younger. I couldn't wait for all the big conferences and new announcements. It was hype even if nothing good was announced we had cringe moments to laugh at.
Rest in peace, E3. It may be easy to understand why you wasted away, but you will be missed.
E3 pre-2005 will be missed, everything after than ain't even close or worthy of mention to be missed. Late 90's E3's were phenominal, especially the after parties.
Those that scoff and hand-wave it away are kids that were never there. Peak E3 was peak gaming.
It already IS missed.
Pour one out for E3; it's finally deader than the dodo.
My list would be 6) Sony ( Even though the games looked good that they showed, all they showed was just game trailers on a video screen and nothing else, so that could have been done without being on an e3 stage, Their conference felt very rushed as if they had no interest in e3 this year and there was no live game play of any games shown. Since then, Sony have admitted that they kept many big game announcements back from e3 which proves e3 wasn't that important for them this year. It just lacked something big time, The atmosphere during it was underwhelming, and even the audience looked bored. Unusual BORING! conference. Normally Sony's e3 showing is the best for me or at-least in the top two. For me this year there conference was DRY and unfortunately last place, which is a bit sad since I have two PS4 Pro's in my house with one of them connected to a Sony Bravia 65" 4K HDR TV, so I do like Sony.) 5) Bethesda, 4) EA, 3) Ubisoft, 2) Nintendo 1) Microsoft( Will pre-order an Xbox One X soon)
Whoever that 'youtoober' was at the EA show choked it big time.
For me it would be
1. Sony
2. Nintendo
3. Microsoft
4. Ubisoft
5. EA
I was kinda disappointed in this year e3, but it was cool. I would rank them like this:
1. Nintendo (awesome Mario gameplay, Metroid 3ds gameplay plus big title announcements. Sadly, not much is going on in 2017)
2. Sony (The best exlcusives, nice gameplay videos but no surprises. Their 2017 titles mostly got videos but not during the conference)
3. Ubisoft (BGE2 was a great surprise, Assassin's Creed looks great, good momemtum for a company that struggled recently)
4. Microsoft (Cool indie games but the biggest games were multiplat, and an overpriced console. I still think the Xbox One S is the better choice)
5. Bethesda
6: EA (Battlefront 2 looked great though)
Man, the hate on Sony is unbelievable. Yes, I know they didn't show anything new or give you teasers that blew your mind. However, of all the conferences Sony was the one that kept it consistently entertaining. God of War and Spider-Man were easily 2 of the best trailers this E3... and think of it this way, if those trailers nearly beat out any new announcements that's pretty telling.
Not to mention Sony has the PS Experience event... probably saved a few surprises for that show.
I think Anthem was my favorite of E3 showings, but if I had to pick a conference it'd go to Sony. I'd rather re-watch Days Gone, God of War, and Spider-Man than any of the other announcements this year... though Wolfenstein was also exceptional, but Bethesda's event is a whole different can of worms.
