If you had a PC that had 16 GB of DDR4 and a GTX 1070, you would have a far more powerful device than an XBX. First of all, a GTX 1070 has 6.5 teraflops, not 6 teraflops. Furthermore, the card itself has 8 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory and then you're adding another 16 GB of DDR4 which is far more memory than the XBX.

Also, the XBX has a processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, and if anyone is building a PC, pretty much any processor at this point is above 3.0 GHz, unless you're using a Xeon processor or something from the early 2000's.

Good on 'em for making something more powerful, but in no way does this compare to a PC with a GTX 1070 in it and 16 GB of RAM; that's straight clickbait.

X isn't a minor upgrade. Going with a 6 teraflop GPU on it's face seems like it. Usually consoles jump six to ten times in power. This is more like four. But, the results are a big step up in how it performs.

We had started seeing games dropping from 1080p/60. One didn't even hit that consistently. Now we're talking 4k/60 on some games. While PS4 and One gave us lower midrange PC performance at launch, X takes us back to when consoles gave us lower end high performance PC quality.

It will be interesting to see what will be engineered into the real next generation. We'll see Vega or Navi GPUs and Ryzen CPUs for sure. 4k/60 solid for sure. Wonder if someone will push 8k or will we finally get the changes in game mechanics they always promise.

With all of the theoretical modeling done virtually we will see some monster consoles next generation. Scorpio is just the beginning.

Microsoft has no clue about game engines or coding efficient software.
They need that power to push their unoptimized games to 4k.
Their time to shine at e3 and they did not show one game that looked better than a base PS4 game except for the 4k shine.
Xbox one games with a 4k shine will still be Xbox one games. The only players that are going to get shafted are base Xbox one owners by being left out with graphic perks and if, like ark, have such better performance compared to the 15fps average on Xbox one.

If you read anything Digital Foundry did on the design of the console or any of the tech sites take on the information you'd know X actually outperforms a PC with similar specs. Microsoft made changes to the hardware using a system at Stanford and tested every API and engine to find all of the potential bottlenecks in the original equipment. They made the system around the software. X is extremely efficient. So maybe you need to learn to drive. All indications are that Microsoft is doing fine.

Btw, Microsoft doesn't program all of the games on their console. The developers of the game do. So unless it's first party, it's the developers code. Rude and wrong.

Not quite. The GPU side may be similar to a 1070, but the CPU doesn't come close to current PC CPUs. Also, a 16GB game PC with a 1070 also has 8 GB of dedicated video RAM (24 total). That's double what the XOX has. And then there's the "OS overhead" claim. Overhead depends on how well the user can optimize the OS, and that's almost entirely under his control. There is a lot that can be disabled, suspended or outright deleted. Thread priorities are under user control as well. I could go on to how much faster SSDs are, compared to mechanical drive in the XOX.

Those are clearly the minimum requirements, and they are hilariously optimistic. I haven't tried on my new PC, but on my old rig with an OCed i5 2500k and GTX 970, that game ran horrifically. The loading was truly insane as well, had to put it on my boot SSD to keep from falling asleep since apparently the engine hand delivers the binary from the platter to system components on HDDs.

This game also appears to have 4 development studios attached to it, so that doesn't scream easy optimization either lol

The point of this post is the fact that this game isn't even demanding, they are slack devs, wasting resources and not optimizing their code period, this game shouldn't be struggling to run 1080p 60fps on either console, the assets within this game is subpar at best. Ark is a trash game with useless devs anyway, no point worrying about their misadventures in optimising it for any platform.. that being said Horizon is upscaled from 1080 using checkerboarding to 1800 and from there they do the same to create a dynamic resolution. there's very little difference between 1800 and 2160 anyway.

It's actually more common that games are utilizing a fuller extent of pc gpu's (and cpu's) these days with the DX12/Vulkan api- The X's gpu is probably closer to an AMD RX480 or so with some more Vram, less mhz but faster bandwidth.

Point is, the general idea of pc games being poorly optimised for gpu's is an old fashioned one, especially when consoles are getting ever closer to using the exact same components with the same architecture on the same api's.

What a crock. They are using these settings as example very well knowing that the detail graphic settings on both are not maxed out. Actually its not. According to digital foundry the ps4 pro is roughly equivelant to an rx480. The x is closer to the 1070. This has now been mentioned by 2 external sources The ark survival developers and digital foundry.
Go and look at the equivelant xbox one or ps4 gpus, compare what they can do vs the consoles. Consoles are always more efficient and games always better optimised.
Of course i still think 1070 will outperform the xbox x, but this is probably the closest gpu in terms of performance.

Yes but you are looking at it wrong. To get the same performance out of a pc you will need a 1070. Consoles are always far more efficient. To get the same performance from a pc you need an extra tier of power.
Think of the ps4. It has the equivelant of an r7 360. Do you think you could run uncharted with this. Not without changes. So while the xbox x is in line with an rx 580 in terms of numbers it will be closer to the 1070 for performance.

Wow. If the Xbox X can run the incredibly shitty and unoptimized piece of turd like Ark at 60 FPS when the Pro can only muster 30 FPS then that's a huge sign of its power. This game started on the PC and to this day it still runs like shit. Milking 60 FPS from this game is incredibly impressive for a console.

Console looked great, in an ideal world I'd own every console going but I'm happy with my PS4 Pro.
Be interested to see what developers can push out of this console, the trailers at E3 really didn't do it justice in a lot of cases (I mean, minecraft? c'mon now...) except probably Forza & Crackdown.

Luckily I just upgraded my PC so don't miss out on the Xbox exclusives :D

It should be a powerhouse.. Its a fantastic console.. It doesnt matter to me if there's no exclusives i want on it though.. That can change in the future but Crackdown didnt sell me on that november 7th launch.. Maybe if they get a new game i want and it comes with the elite controller, ill consider it.. A bundled game might help too.. The BC & UHD, are bonus'

As a PC/ Xbox gamer, I'd take frame rate over resolution any day of the week.....However as a PC builder I know that double the frame rate doesn't necessarily mean twice the power. All it takes is a bad driver or an over ambitious toggle in the settings menu and a game can grind to an unplayable halt. So I'm happy to buy an Xbox one X, quite looking forward to it actually, but I'm not getting carried away. This is the console I thought I was buying 3 years ago. It'll be nice to finally play those old launch titles like BF4 at 1080p, imagine that.

A 6.5 tflop 1070 with an I7 / 32gb RAM /SSD / which collectively is a FAR more powerful PC than X1X still can't get anywhere near 4k/60 on the latest AAA games so the X1X has no chance.

Less intensive and dialled down games like Forza and Minecraft yeah
