looks interesting. I hope we hear more about it at E3

Blu3_Berry2554d ago

Recently played through I Am Setsuna which is also made by Tokyo RPG Factory. I thought it was pretty decent, but I do hope the story is better and have more diversity with the location and music this time around.

ninsigma2554d ago

Was considering getting it for the Switch but didn't wanna spend 40 euro on it. Is it worth it??

_-EDMIX-_2554d ago

I would wait for a price drop.

I played it on PS4 and its really, really good. Granted, its very bare, but if you like turned based JRPGs, its a great playthrough.

I feel 40 is a bit much and I think Square is legit taking advantage. Wait for a price drop, I don't know how many will really like I Am Setsuna as it really is very bare, but I was ok with that going in.

Blu3_Berry2554d ago

As EDMIX said, I would wait for a price drop as $40 is a bit much. To me, I think it is more worth it around $15-25. It's by no means a bad game, but don't expect anything unique. The story is pretty standard and predictable. Music is good but I feel it gets repetitive after a while since most is soft and mellow. Combat is pretty entertaining and has a decent amount of depth to it. Graphics and style was very nice though.

ninsigma2554d ago

Nice. Thanks guys. I wasn't really expecting it to be ground-breaking or anything. It definitely looks like a throw back to older games that follows a lot of the same formulas hence why I didn't want to pay that much for it. If definitely pick it up for 20 euro because it does look good. If lost sphere turns out to be any good though I'll probably just get that one instead. Looks quite nice.

Teflon022553d ago

Wait till it's like 20 or under. Remember it was made to run like a vita/ phone game brought to consoles. Not that it necessarily is bad but it doesn't make it feel worth more than the average download title

_-EDMIX-_2553d ago

Agreed with everyone.

Its a great JRPG, but I don't know if I would say spend 40 on it.

I had a great time with it and it was rather short. I ended up beating it around 25 hours.

Its not bad, but I don't know if its 40 hours good lol I don't to tell you go ahead and buy it full price and you end up not feeling you got your money's worth.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B...

DEAR GOD WTF? I almost had a heart attack lol

Wait til a sale comes for the digital version. This is just insane what they are asking for a physical copy for Switch.

Testfire2553d ago

I paid over $60usd for my physical copy from Play Asia. I'm about 10hrs in and I love it. I don't regret my purchase at all. Needless to say, I'll be picking up a physical copy of Lost Sphear as well.

indysurfn2553d ago (Edited 2553d ago )

PS4 and SWITCH........I'm noticing a common theme. With Square Enix and Other RPG companies. No XBOX

_-EDMIX-_2553d ago

@Test- WOW! That is just a bit much.

I love the game, but not $60 love lol, not for 25 hours JRPG.

Its not a bad game, but I don't think this should be 40 pounds and the prices I saw online where just insane.

I'm getting Lost Sphere too, but I'll wait til its around $25 or $30.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd hate to tell someone to buy this full price with them expecting something more. Folks can disagree all they want, but trust me....this isn't a $60 game or even $70, the prices I saw online were people legit trying to price gouge, no way is this game $70 in terms of worth. If you like JRPGs, sure, but even then I just can't say buy this for 40.

Persona 5
Nier
Horizon
Zelda

etc, lots of ace JRPG's this year, I just can't tell someone in all honesty to buy this at such a ridiculous price. Its no where near the level of quality as those other games.

Testfire2552d ago

@_-EDMIX-_ , I don't really judge whether or not I buy games by the length. Whether it's 8 hrs or 100 hrs to complete doesn't really matter as long as the story is good. As far as I Am Setsuna is concerned, it's a good story and very charming. Is it on the level of the ones you mentioned, no of course not. But I can tell you I have been playing it a lot and am currently on the last dungeon. It's one of those games for me that I think about when I'm not playing it and by my standards that makes a game where my purchase is justified. Not to mention that the Japanese Switch version is the only physical version out there, so from a collectors standpoint that's a big plus.

_-EDMIX-_2548d ago

@Testfire- Nothing to do with just length.

It is a barebones JRPG.

It isn't worth $60

Looks interesting. Hopefully it isn't as boring as "I Am Setsuna" was.

AznGaara2554d ago

Absolutely loved I am Setsuna, hyped as hell for this!

FallenAngel19842554d ago

Square Enix gives no fucks for Xbox One anymore

BlahBlahWhatever2554d ago

Can't blame them what's the point to release a JRPG in a console that is dead from the start in Japan? & also all JRPG fans out of Japan have a PS4 who play JRPGs on xbone?

Segata2554d ago

Sadly this would probably sell better on Wii U in Japan than Xbox One if Square wasted time releasing it there. Wii U has 3 million sold there. No this isn't port begging. I have a PS4.

_-EDMIX-_2554d ago

lol, well when did they ever?

Last gen they released less XB stuff, so clearly this gen they are going to continue to release less XB stuff.

Nintendo and PS and even PC have shown to buy more Square JRPGs then XB.

If you own a Switch or PS4 or even PC, you are good on JRPGs, own an XB?.......good luck lol

EddieNX 2553d ago

I hate my XB1 right now, its junk I might get a ps4 pro

TekoIie2553d ago

@EddieNX

Probably worth holding onto it until after E3. If MS shows nothing there that interests you then yeh no point having one.

XiNatsuDragnel2553d ago

Eddie

Just get the pro, it's worth it.

_-EDMIX-_2553d ago

@Eddie- lol

I don't own a XONE, but I would wait til E3 before selling anything.

Knowing how you like Japanese games, seriously....legit consider selling that XONE if E3 yields yet another year of "meh"

EddieNX 2553d ago

The only problem is all the digital stuff ive got, like 70 games.... But Im THIS close lol

badz1492553d ago (Edited 2553d ago )

no. just wait for E3 before purchasing anything. if we get lucky, Sony might drop the price of all PS4 variants. I am holding off to by a Pro myself. my 4KTV is ready

JRPG's don't sell on xbox and Nintendo/Playstation fans love them, so why waste money developing for that platform.

sk8ofmnd2553d ago

None at all lol. Esp after tomb raider deal went sour they said never again. Pretty much what will happen if 3rd partys on switch fails to be profitable or even worth the time and man power... 3rd partys will give no fncks

What do you need to know about Tokyo RPG Factory

There are certain smaller studios out there making Japanese games that are gradually growing in notoriety. One of them is Tokyo RPG Factory, a developer that most people probably know as the one that is owned by Square Enix. (Other acceptable answers include “the one that makes sad games” or “the one where all the games look a lot alike.” It’s been five years since its founding in 2014, and the company has kept on trucking. In fact, it has a new game coming out this year! Which means now is the perfect time to figure out more about it and why you may want to take an interest in the team’s games.

I recommend I Am Setsuna. Great little JRPG with an amazing soundtrack.

Tapani1900d ago

How does it compare to say, FFIV or Chrono Trigger?

Segata1900d ago

Not at all. Tokyo RPG factories games are average at best. Just try Octopath Traveler. The game is fantastic.

Tapani1899d ago (Edited 1899d ago )

I’ve been thinking about it, but heard that it is also mediocre. I didn’t like Bravely Default either. Been lately playing again Xenogears, Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy Tactics, and none of the new games don’t even come close. I did enjoy Saga Frontier 1-2. Would you say I should still try Octopath Traveler?

Segata1899d ago

Where have you heard Octopath is Mediocre? because everyone praises the game. It's not the same developer as BD. I hated BD. Ocotpath has the best original OST of 2018 bar none. It's truly a great game and the best non 1st party Switch game of 2018

CDbiggen1899d ago (Edited 1899d ago )

The thing that has personally turned me off of Octopath is how the other party members basically have nothing to do with the story of your currently chosen protagonist. I've not played the game but that's what I've read and seen. I know it's the kind of thing that would take me right out of the experience.
