2.2 GB for launch version, thought it would be much more

IamTylerDurden12555d ago

Wow, that tells me there isn't much going on technically. I know compression but c'mon Vita games are bigger.

IamTylerDurden12555d ago

Please, if u disagree then have the stones to explain why. 2.2gb is tiny, it's more akin to an indie game. The reason why indie games typically have much smaller install sizes is bc they typically are smaller games with less polygons, assets, and tech. It doesn't mean they are bad games, but just smaller games in a sense. ARMS clearly will not have huge AAA production values and that's fine, but it's also true. Please, tell me otherwise, tell me that the devs are simply compression MASTERS or that file size in no way indicates game size/poly count/ overall technical prowess.

@IamTylerDurden1

My goodness, we're talking about having stones on the internet in a comment section.

People only care about the install size of a game in regards to how much storage space it will take up on a system. Your comment vaguely implies that its small download size is a hindrance on the quality of the title.
I can name a bunch of games that are 2GB or less that have released in recent years which are better than 95% of AAA titles that release this gen.

"Please, tell me otherwise, tell me that the devs are simply compression MASTERS or that file size in no way indicates game size/poly count/ overall technical prowess."

You're arguing with yourself.

@Tekolie

Yes, typically ppl only care about file size when it's too large bc that entails longer downloads and more HDD space. However, if you are aware of the nuances you will understand that file size tells you much more than how long it'll take to download. File size gives you a general impression of scale and total assets ect in the game. This is why AAAs typically are 30 to 60gb this gen bc they are huge scale production with high poly counts, high quality cutscenes, advanced lighting, and a large number of assets. This is the reason a budget RPG like Technomancer (i love Spiders/Focus Home) is only 9gb and an RPG like Horizon is 40+. Sure, some games compress better than others but generally you can go on PS or xbox store ect and look at game after game comparing file size. Look at indies, AAAs, and everything between and generally file size matches up with how big a production it is.

Like i said, size doesn't indicate whether it'll be a good game or not, but it does somewhat dictate the scale and production value of the game. ARMS is clearly a smaller scale game than i was expecting. I just find it funny at all the disagrees bc Nintendo fans are mad thinking that i'm implying ARMS will be a bad game.

I'm not arguing with myself, those points i made about compression ect were facetious.

You didn't watch the ARMS Nintendo Direct did you.

TekoIie2555d ago (Edited 2555d ago )

@IamTylerDurden1

Did you just try to explain why a larger texture will have a larger file size? I mean what does that have to do with the reasoning I gave for why people are disagreeing with you...

You asked why people were disagreeing with you and I explained why. You seem to have just run right passed the reasoning I offered and started to talk about how H: ZD is 40gb's for whatever reason.

IamTylerDurden12555d ago

Ok u guys win, ARMS is a huge AAA. It's bigger than Injustice 2.

TekoIie2554d ago

@IamTylerDurden1

"ARMS is a huge AAA. It's bigger than Injustice 2."

You've done it again dude. No one's claimed ARM's is AAA and you've brought up Injustice 2 for no reason.

You're just talking past me and not engaging with what I've said.

Nintendo Select: 5 Switch Games That Deserve A Second Chance

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "The Nintendo Switch has been one Nintendo’s most successful systems ever, both measured by the number of units sold and the quality of its titles, but if there’s one thing this generation has been missing it would have to be the Nintendo Selects line, bringing existing titles that had paid their dues back at bargain prices. With the Switch now entering its twilight years, and there being few new titles in store for the foreseeable future, what better time could there be to bring back this tried-and-true tradition? While the actual realization of it may be doubtful given how rigid both hardware and software prices have become in recent years, that only gives us all the more reason to dream up a hypothetical lineup of our own.

For this article the specific focus will not be on those massive multi-million evergreens that the lineup would no doubt contain a few of to cement its value, but instead on games that for one reason or another fell short of their full potential the first time around and deserve a second chance to reach more players at an affordable price. Let’s get started."

I really want Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch, can't believe that hasen't been ported. I'm playing Skyward Sword at the moment and I'm almost finished, but it's so long and the controls are so bad, even without motion. Astral Chain is fantastic though, they should make a sequel.

A bunch of Nintendo Switch games just got the same patch, but no one’s quite sure why

ARMS has received its first update in five years, but we'd prefer if it got a sequel

I got the same for Splatoon 2. Nintendo's release notes should be more detailed. Interesting.
