CliffyB: Crossplay Is Dumb; LawBreakers Will Run at 60FPS on PlayStation 4

Cliff Bleszinski confirmed that LawBreakers will run at 60FPS on Sony's PS4. He also said there won't be any crossplay with PC, calling the feature "dumb".

How, when this is console-to-console rather than console-to-PC.

So long as a game has set frame rate rather than resolution, a resolution that adjusts to keep a balanced frame rate, there shouldn't be an issue. But because graphics have become more important than game mechanics, with 1080p something devs still struggle with on the migration to 4k, it has.

Yes and no, they could do what GTA V does in it's MP part, it only let's players with a controller play against others with a controller (unless they choose not to), that would be a fair thing to do and then I wouldn't mind playing FPS games against PC gamers...

Cross-play does favor PC, but it would also enable a much larger matchmaking pool. I'll use the original Titanfall as a point of reference. The PC version of Titanfall had to remove certain game types because there weren't enough players. Now if it was cross-play compatible with the Xbox version this wouldn't have been an issue.

Just have it be opt-in.. then if you get salty from PC players owning you, opt back out.

As a PC gamer myself, I've never understood this comment. To casuals yes. But to more hardcore gamers, if you're good with a gamepad and have a nice pair of FPS Freaks or something equivalent, you'll be just fine. I'm probably the 1% that is a HUGE PC gamer, but hates M/K. I will ALWAYS use a controller if I can. Honestly, I've flat out not purchased MP focused games that don't support controllers (or intuitive controls with input mapper) because that's how I like to play. Never once have I felt at a disadvantage and often I do rather well if not top 3. I'm not the greatest by all means, but I'm not that guy with 0-15 either.

To me it's no different then console users changing their sensitivity to 10 while the other half of the room is sitting at 3 or 5. Being able to spin around fast isn't much help if you can't aim in the first place.

For YOU, maybe. I'm not trying to take that away. All I'm saying is this whole conspiracy theory of using M/K is highly superior is a load of BS. Yes, more precision. But there's many other factors when gaming on M/K compared to using a mouse to click on webpages. If me and you played a match, I would get embarrassed using M/K. I've gotten better over the years, but I'm hot garbage. With a controller, I'll hold my own. I use to play ROTT (Remake) which if you're unfamiliar with is an old school PC FPS, which is also super fast. I held my own against the devs and other players a like. Of course they made fun of me, but it didn't stop me from being on top of the scoreboard.

The difference is massive regardless on how skilled you are on a controller. I managed to play Doom, Destiny and Overwatch on a XIM4 setup demo in a store and the results were outstanding to unfair levels. I don't consider myself a good fps player at all especially on a controller I am pretty much the guy you don't need to revive.

Cross play players on console will be slaughtered playing against PC players.

There's a lower barrier of entry for M/KB. Much less muscle memory that has to be developed compared to a controller.

While I think someone who is good at a game will be superior regardless of their input choice, it doesn't mean that people who aren't that keen on getting good can't perform better with a M/KB combination. I can take a lot of time learning how a controller works with every game, but when it comes to M/KB, it's all pretty much the same to the point where it's easier to aim and move around, thus easier to play the game, thus I tend to perform better.

Don't know about Xbone since I don't own one, but the PS4 does support M/K but only for typing (to my knowledge). But based of logic, they would have to create a separate UI or at least icons for M/K to be used in gameplay and I highly doubt many if any are willing to do that for such a low percentage of users that would actually use it.

You do know that Destiny 2 will be impossible to achieve 60 frames because regular Xbone and PS4 and they can't have an elite console to have more advantage than the regular console but if they do then it's going to divide the fanbase. So regular Xbone and PS4 is holding back Destiny 2 so can't blame Bungie because they can clearly do 60 frames which I believe the PC version is going to achieve that.

If you did the same for me, I'm sure you'd find me saying some harsh things about things I disagree with him on. However, if you actually read everything that I ever said in an article that reported something he said, you'd find I actually admire his work, respect what he's achieved, and while I often don't appreciate his tone when talking about gamers, I actually think he's right about his opinions more often than I feel he's wrong. Not gonna lie but PC doesn't play normal they never have and never will, using a mouse to flick your screen in a split second with no animation involved is really the only advantage they have besides using mods and cheating in other ways. If I was to move the analogue stick that turns my screen flick it from front to back without turning it won't work. It's either the way the controllers are or it's just the difference between the games; Such movements is fround upon. This is the prime example why some games won't be cross play, besides Rocket league that game you have to turn completely forcing all players to play alike. This is the differences that would keep a game from playing fairly.

Crossplay isn't dumb in general, but for the type of title, I understand why he said it. Without crossplay, I wouldn't be able to play a game that he originated though, Gears of War 4. This is because Microsoft refuses to not lock it to the Windows Store for the PC version, even though they KNOW it means it'll always release DOA for PC.

I can't play ranked, until the crossplay toggle arrives, only all other modes which have crossplay enabled. I use a gamepad for GOW4, so I don't have the massive mouse advantage. In that sense, thank god Cliffy didn't have control over the decision of crossplay integration in GOW4.
