The Surge releases next week on Xbox One, PS4, PC and having spent several hours wandering about the wastelands it’s clear Deck 13 has drawn influence from a certain Dark Souls series. The design is almost carbon copy although it does have a unique take on the formula with its combat. Players are tasked with cutting body parts from their adversaries which in turn nets supplies for upgrades, weapons and bits of mech suit – all handy stuff when out in the field. This means that although it’s easy to chop and slice away at enemies (and as you grow in power becomes easier to take them down) one has to be mindful of which body part to hack off adding a neat layer to the combat.
The Humble Focus Entertainment Legends and Visions Bundle just launched today. It includes seven different games on multiple operating systems that you can redeem and play on Steam. As always, a portion of proceeds from the bundle supports charity.
DSOGaming writes: "Lords of the Fallen was one of the first successful Souls-like games. LOTF was created by Deck13 Interactive and CI Games, with the former creating another Souls-like game, The Surge. And earlier this month, modder ‘Jeff B’ released two mods that enable a God Mode to them."

First time seeing gameplay of this. It actually looks like it could be pretty fun.
When ever I see 4K now, I think Scorpio version. But any way, as for this demo, I don't like that the AI don't seem to be able to hear when there is a fight going on within yards of them. Make is seem too scripted and looses immersion for me. But I do like Melee combat even though it looks like it could also use some range weaponry.
Plays and feels nothing like a Souls series game. If you buy this game with the idea that you are going to have a souls like experience, you will be disappointed. Its a good game if you dont compare it.
The game is showing some promise, so I'll definitely be giving it a try.
"Post Apocalyptic Dark Souls?"
How original. I have only seen that line a hundred times in reference to this game. Game industry writing. The worst.
