One of my favorite studios. The amount of hype they generate with a game announcement is insane.

naruga2549d ago (Edited 2549d ago )

Crash Bandicoot will always be considered for me a Naughty Dog/Playstation character ...no matter which owns the IP now or where he will end ....the only games that should bear the Crash Bandicoot name are only the first 4 ND developped games...every other garbage that followed from other devs should have never been related to the 4 original legendary games ....unfortunately Crash 's fate was very similar to Sonic's -->first games were so good that nearly nothing (from their genre)could ever touch them and afterwards a violent downfall to trash quality and oblivion

Sony should have spent some more money to buy Crash back and immediately give it to Japan Studio(i m sure that after the short success of the recent remaster release, Activison are so damn clueless about gaming that will return Crash to its previous garbage status) ...

Nivekki2549d ago

'Sony should have spent some more money to buy Crash back'

They never owned it in the first place.

Gunstar752548d ago

Crash's first outing on ps1 was average at best. It w as originally supposed to be an open world game bit was changed to the linear version that was released.

It went up against Mario 64 at the time and paled in comparison.

I don't get the Crash hype....

Kribwalker2548d ago

@gunstar
I agree. They are saying the first one completely changed the platform genre...I'd say mario 64 is the one that changed the genre

naruga2548d ago (Edited 2548d ago )

@Gunstar ...Mario64 has his own feeling that also hasnt changed until today and well done to Nintendo Soft teams that managed to retain the transition intact from 2D to 3D..its very well done game but you know its Nintendo- mario ..you r playing it since Snes and you know you cant go wrong ....CrasB 1 on the other was smthing compltely new (from aesthetic perception) but with same levels of quality and attention to gameplay/ visuals/mechanics , making it addictive and fun to play even today (and easily destroying any contemporary platform)....it was like a new challenger to the genre of platfomers had born with the same status (or even better) of Sonic and Mario

Mine is Crash Team Racing
Jak 2
Uncharted 4

BlakHavoc2548d ago

Honestly I never played Crash team racing and do not recall playing Jak either. My acknowledgment of ND started with UC1.

YodaCracker2548d ago

They are only rivaled by Rockstar.

QUIMICOMORTAL2548d ago

Easily the best developer of the last 10 years!

Before anyone says Nintendo, remember that before this last Zelda, they also made Mario tennis, amiibo festival, Mario party 10 and 1,2, switch (this one wasn't before but it's still crap)

While naughty dog had 4 GOTYs in their last 4 games! It really doesn't get better than that!

I don't have a top 10 "Best Naughty Dog Games" I do have a top 3 of their best games "in my opinion"

3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - This game will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was such a massive leap compared to the first Uncharted game, not just on a graphics front, but the improvements to gameplay & story were extremely impressive. The graphics were a "Generational Leap" compared to the first game. Many were so in shock by the visual difference, they couldn't believe it was running on the PS3. Also, the way ND handled the snow tech in the game was absolutely stunning. The way it would react to Drake & the enemies movements was holy impressive.
On the story front, I was disappointed Sully wasn't featured in the game as much as I would've liked, seeing Elena again was wonderful, as was getting to know & love Chloe Frazier, a friend/lover of Drake's past. The pacing was just perfect as well.

2. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - My personal favorite game in the series. The more grounded story is something I truly appreciate. All of the cast were at their best here. The gameplay is the best by far, and the gameplay animations are so fluid & wonderful. The graphics are incredible. Technical Marvel.

1. TLoU - Naughty Dogs best work. Never has a game effected me in the way this game did, and still does to this day. Never have I been so blown away & left in awe of performances before. It changed how I look at video games from an acting standpoint. Every line of dialogue was genuinely honest & true to what was happening "in my opinion" Joel & Ellie were brought to life with perfection from Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson. Along with the rest of the cast. Truly on another level. The Cabin scene, anyone? So raw & emotional. The gameplay was brutal and intense as well. ND has a pedigree like nobody else "in my opinion"

BlakHavoc2549d ago

TLOU legitimately has about 5 scenes I like to see ppl react to. No game has touched me emotionally the way that game did, not before its release and not even after. The voice acting and facial animations were just so raw and realistic. I'm so jacked for the sequel.

ClayRules20122549d ago (Edited 2549d ago )

Yeah, their are many scenes.

The one with Tess gets to me. Gosh, it does have many emotional scenes. I agree with you, the voice acting and facial animations were so raw and realistic. And now, with the updated UC4 engine, I can't imagine the level of quality the facial animations/animations in general will look like on TLoU Part 2.
How do you feel about Ellie being the main character?

BlakHavoc2549d ago

@clay

I love it, she was the highlight of the first imo, although Joel was a phenomenal character as well. I'm curious to see how the world has taken a toll on her and how she's changed as a person. According to Drukkman the theme of part II is hate, so I expect her to have moments of violence and emotional instability. If they can meet expectations and deliver emotional scenes again while also improving upon the gameplay, then I think we're in for a treat. I expect the facial animations to be even more jarring then in UC4, since they're using new tech that was shown off at the PSX panel. Btw my favorite scene from the original is either the ranch scene with Joel and Ellie, or the one with Sam and Henry when they bite the dust. Or maybe it's the one where Ellie kills David lol, idk they're all good, even the interaction between Joel and Tommy.

BIGWILLDX2548d ago

No mention of TLOU multiplayer. Are you serious?

ClayRules20122548d ago

Lol, I'm sorry I didn't include any comment on the MP portion of the game.

The MP in TLoU was brutal, intense, and extremely fun ( when you had a team ) that would work together, as a "TEAM" I constantly had to be on my toes when I had the opportunity to play with friends. I certainly enjoyed it a great deal, with the little amount of time I had with it. Sticking a shiv in another players neck when they didn't expect it was always entertaining lol.

I hope that makes you happy, bud lol. Hope you had a great time with it as well.

medman2548d ago

+clayrules
TLOU is it for me as well.....no. 1 with a bullet. And a shiv. And an axe, oh that sweet, sweet axe. And a molotov. And.....

ClayRules20122548d ago

Lol, that's awesome, bud. I forgot the axe. It's sweet! So glad to hear you loved TLoU as well.

BIGWILLDX2547d ago (Edited 2547d ago )

Thanks for that bro tlou multiplayer is dope. I've played it for countless hours with friends. Glad you enjoyed it as well.

Don't make me laugh

UCForce2548d ago (Edited 2548d ago )

Should I believe you or not ? And @Deep_Throat "sigh" it's like you wished them to go back, but that not happening. Naughty Dog is still Naughty Dog, they're just improve and do better than ever.

Deep-throat2548d ago

@UCForce I disagree, I don't think they are better than ever!

S2Killinit2549d ago

Oh man I honestly can't decide between Uncharted 2 and 4 and The Last of Us. I mean, how can you really be happy with whichever one you put on top of the other? But I guess, personally, for me, The Last of Us would take number 1 spot. And I already feel guilty...

ClayRules20122548d ago

Lol, I understand what you mean. All 3 games are special gaming experiences in their own right.

I mean, I don't feel guilty putting The Last of Us over UC2 or UC4, because what ND achieved with that TLoU "in my opinion" has effected me more on a whole other level than what ND has even achieved with even the Uncharted series ( which has offered some of my absolute fav gaming experiences ) of all time, in story & gameplay.
Either way tho, I wouldn't fault anyone for putting TLoU, UC2, UC4 in any order they chose to. I can understand their reasoning. Naughty Dog continues to push their talents & improve on their skills & don't get lazy & consider this to be good enough.

I genuinely have faith Neil, Troy, Ashley, and the rest of the team at ND will do their absolute best to deliver an experience that's worthy of a sequel. Part 2, I believe will be heart wrenching & pull at the heartstrings once again.

BlakHavoc2548d ago

Lol it really is tough to decide especially if you're indecisive like myself. Idk how ppl have a favorite movie or food, i have like 10 favorite movies lol. But for me i think it'd have to be TLOU, followed by UC4, UC2, UC3, then 1. Haven't played any of their previous games.

ClayRules20122548d ago

Story wise, do you prefer 3 over UC Drake's Fortune?

BlakHavoc2548d ago

@Clay
No can't say that I do, I think what I enjoyed more tho were the action sequences, and set pieces (best in the series). So basically the gameplay which is king to me.

QUIMICOMORTAL2548d ago

ChronoJoe2549d ago

Really scraping the barrel for articles here. Naughtydog haven't released many more than 10 games. Either way, my favourites are CTR, Uncharted 4, Uncharted 2, and TLOU.

AspiringProGenji2549d ago (Edited 2549d ago )

They have actually, even more than 10 games: The way of the Warrior, 4 Crash games, 4 Jak and Daxter games, 4 Uncharted, and 2 TLoU (Part 2 hasn't released yet, but still counts towards).

ChronoJoe2549d ago (Edited 2549d ago )

Yeah of course. That's why I said 'haven't released many more than 10 games'.

I can't imagine many people would be picking games like Keef the Theif for their top 10 either!

And no, of course games that haven't released yet, do not count. The list intends to offer the ten 'best' you can't make that judgement, before the studio has 10 games.

ND have released 20 games in total, 17 if we take away their pre-PS1 titles (most of which were okay, but not great). Not a bad number or anything like that, but the list still includes considerably more titles than it excludes, which doesn't make it all that informative on the authors opinion.

Would have been better if it were just 'ranking Naughty Dog's video games, from best to worst' or something like that, to be honest. I mean, if you're going to make a relatively boring listicle, might as well go the whole hog.

BlakHavoc2548d ago

Omg I remember playing Way of the Warrior back in the day and loving it! Of coarse at the time i didn't care about the devs lol

Sony And Bend Studio Need To Bring Back Syphon Filter, Not Some Vain Live Service

The iconic stealth-action Syphon Filter series is nowhere to be seen, while Sony's busy planning more ridiculous live services.

Sometimes bringing back an old IP is like digging up a corpse and peeing on it, just look at Duke Nukem Forever, be careful what you wish for.

I loved Rollerdrome and was looking forward to a Rollerdrome 2. 😐

Don't want to be melodramatic but as far you can be upset over video-game news ... bit heartbroken.

I feel like there's a trend of well made games like this going largely ignored by the gaming audience. It's quite frustrating. I hope the devs form a new studio but I suppose they'd have to start again from scratch.

JEECE2d ago

"I feel like there's a trend of well made games like this going largely ignored by the gaming audience."

Yep. I'd love to know how many of us actually bought this game, rather than just getting it on Gamepass or PS Plus. Probably a shockingly low number. Steam concurrents topped out at 419.

I know it's anecdotal, but when I think of my favorite indie games, I still largely think of titles that came out in the 2009-2015 range. Maybe with less competition it was easier to stand out then, but I just felt like at that time there was more recognition of the really great indie games that were worth your time.

senorfartcushion2d ago

Plus would have gotten them some extra money.

TheLigX2d ago

Olliolli 2, olliolli world and rollerdrome are some of my favorite indies of all time. This industry is disgusting lately.

solideagle2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

it's not industry's fault, it's the consumers fault. Audience just wants to play shooter/Battle Royale etc...

Christopher2d ago

No. It's the publisher's fixation on profit margins. They only want the most profitable of products. It's greed.

Inverno2d ago

I wouldn't blame consumers entirely either. If shooters and Battle Royal is all we're given then it's all we've got to buy. If the AAA industry wouldn't follow trends so obsessively it'd be better varied.

JEECE2d ago

There is fault to go around. Some of it is on consumers for sure. We whine constantly about live service games, but then we play them anyway and ignore better smaller titles.

But publishers and platform holders bear some responsibility too. You hear stories come out from indie devs who had big hits in the late PS3/360 to early PS4/XONE window who can barely move units now, and some of that is definitely failure to advertise and poor discoverability. During that era I felt like I reliably heard about the worthwhile indies, and now I don't.

Then there is the game pass effect (and PS Plus to a lesser extent). So many consumers have now been trained to expect to get indies with their subscriptions, they don't want to pay $20-$40 for them anymore.

ZeekQuattro2d ago

When voting with one's wallet goes wrong. I prsonally have no problem with AA or indie games. Often times those are some of the best experiences to be had in gaming. Unfortunately a lot of gamers thumb their noses at indies however. There are success stories but there are just as many casualties or at least it feels that way sometimes.

LordoftheCritics2d ago

It's the game.

Was fun for 10 minutes

JackBNimble2d ago

Has anyone actually taken a look at the economy? If you're really looking to blame someone for layoffs and closers, then maybe blame the people at the top making the bad decisions tanking the economies.
It's like some of you live in a little bubble oblivious to what's going on around the globe.

TheLigX1d 4h ago

Gamble202d ago

If the games made money the studios wouldn’t be closing. Blame consumers for not supporting “indies”

TheLigX1d 4h ago

The games were profitable, you ding dong.

Killer2020UK2d ago

I've got to disagree with the comments blaming consumers. Yes that is a part of it but by and large the money men are closing studios and sacking staff to increase profitability. Let's not forget the obscene salaries they're on compared to the people who actually make the games. Take 2 are not short of cash, this didn't have to happen.

JEECE2d ago

The thing is, some of the Indie devs closing are really independent. In other words, we can blame Take 2 here, but who can we blame other than the consumers when a fully independent dev shuts down because their games aren't selling? There is an answer to that question, it just isn't greedy publishers, even if they are the most fun to blame.

CantThinkOfAUsername1d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

Last year, Take-Two president and CEO both got paid 72M combined as a bonus. They could have paid the 600 employees they laid off 60K a year and still get half of that (36M). Strauss' compensation alone is 578:1 compared to a T2 employee's.

TiredGamer2d ago

We created the industry by our purchasing decisions/actions. The industry is slowly imploding. At some point we may be left only with safe mainstays (COD, Fortnite) and franchise/movie tie-ins (Indiana Jones, Spiderman, Batman, Star Wars), along with a contingent of very low budget indie stuff if it can turn a profit.

Sad.
