Paladins Producer on Scorpio: "Looks Like Great Technology"; No Nintendo Switch Version Considered

Hi-Rez Studio is "scoping effort" on possible Project Scorpio support for Paladins, but no Nintendo Switch port is being considered for the moment.

the BIG developers like EA, Activision, etc are using a new kit that works a pinch differently that what they were use to. programmable buttons to jump between One/S/Scorpio/PC isnt something that was always there.. a box that is already pre-programmed to know a lot of the current engines on the market now...

i would say big pappy is correct... developing should be easier for the big publishing/development houses...

Yeah, I'm looking forward to those high resolution textures you find on PC on my console now. The game will probably perform better on Scorpio than most PCs to boot. That said, the big developers are already working on Scorpio. Scorpio is ahead of schedule.

The 'problem' I had with papy's statement was that it will attract big developers which is silly 'cos all the big developers are already developing for the X1 and thus Scorpio, it's just a silly, meaningless thing to say...

The upgrades in the game aren't going to be something that requires copious optimizations. People who are expecting major changes to the game or anything other than graphics or performance upgrades are going to be sorely disappointed. It'll be just like it is on the Pro now.

There is no reason to think that "optimization" will be arduous, and it's pretty common sense it will be simple, because the least amount of effort will be taken to support Scorpio. Just like it is on the PS4P now. Same scenario, just with more power, so you'll see more improvements over the stock version.

It's kind of a shame because the Scorpio is really impressive on the hardware side, and could achieve great things with games....even if it's just performance or graphics improvements. But history has shown that spending lots of money or resources to cater to a rather marginal part of the market just won't be done with enough fervor to really utilize that power to it's fullest.

One day, when Scorpio becomes the defacto console to develop for, we'll see some bigger improvements, but then whatever becomes the next upgrade in this new paradigm will face the same problem.

Heck yeah it supports my purchase. Xbox delivers the games and online experiences i like. Can't wait to try out crackdown and others with the apparent games push (yes we will see) by MS again. Most people that seem to be positive about the Scorpio are the XBox fans though. He's not wrong to say that it needs to appeal to more than just the fans, and even Xbox fans should hope it appeals to a broader market than the current install base. If it only appeals to the current install base(Xbox fans), then there is no way it will sell in sufficient numbers to actually get meaningful support. It'll play all those Xbox games of course, but developers aren't going to take excessive time to give improvements if the install base is too small. They'll do the least amount possible to keep games in compliance. PS4P suffers from this now, and it should be concerning....particularly how much people seem to think that the improvements are going to be mind blowing. Im sorry, but a lot of the reasons that some Xbox fans throw out there to imply that the Scorpio will sell well are just misguided, and I do hope that the system impresses....or rather appeals to more than just Xbox fans, because then it can sell well, and gain support.

Xbox delivers what you want, and that's great. That would make you an Xbox fan. But where does that leave Scorpio if it only appeals to you and others who feel the way you do? It leaves it a niche console within a relatively small install base compared to the competition....which means less support for Scorpio.

I ask these because I am a consumer of product that could be worth my playtime in the future, I bought Ps4 and pro, switch, and Wii U, and Xb1 this gen. I just want if my purchase is worth it because with the lack 1 party ips scaries me because I based on variety of genres and games as well. Well.. I just know if it meet my criteria in a objective, rational way.

Of course its not going to appeal to everyone just like PlayStation or Nintendo do not. Nobody knows enough about its up and coming games or plans so until then none of us know anything. Odds are if you're already claiming not to like it after the impressive specs released you probably will never like it anyway. His comment was more fanboy nonsense as usual. It hasn't released yet but for some odd reason we are constantly hearing the now new attack being "it's only going to appeal to xbox fans". Well no sh!t Sherlock lol. It will appeal to Xbox fans first and if games live up to expectations (and not just high review scores) the console could possibly restore its image and bring back those who left in the beginning while gaining new customers. To say "it's only going to appeal to Xbox gamers" is a fanboy tactic because nobody even myself knows a dang thing. Once it releases we will know but until then, the concerns of those that dont really care can now relax.I get that E3 is around the corner so the down play is to be expected. True that I admit the tech, specs, and everything else is a step forward but two steps back could be as you mentioned prices, another is lack of 1P IPs with diversity, and more. So that's what I mean and it's not like Sony, or Nintendo isn't as innocent eg PS3, or Wii U, N64, etc..

Agreed. Microsoft does need to tread softly at this point. Lack of new or a diverse portfolio of IP at their E3 showcase could spell doom out of the gate, but right now I'll just be excited for a new console which hopefully will bring with it an impressive launch lineup that Microsoft has held back specifically for Scorpios launch.

that may come more from MS long history of over promising, excessive PR statements which don't actually represent their product, and failing to deliver on products or services to any relevant meaningful degree, and generally being a shady company that bullies the industry to bow to it's whims in order to maintain control of markets with which they operate in.

Google doesn't have a long history of doing all this, and despite the YouTube thing, they are generally a well respected company. Their search engine is also the best out there, and while it has it's annoyances, all the others pale in comparison to it. But on their search engine, they have indeed received criticism over how they now put ads at the top of searches in place of meaningful results.

So, it's more a matter of history and operating principals of the companies in question. Apple has had it's share of hate. Sony gets plenty of criticism. But, outside of some examples, they still deliver on what they promise, even if it's stuff wrapped up in hyperbole. MS, OTOH, says things, and it's easy to question the validity of it, because they are not always straight forward with what they say, or value some things more than the consumer does, while they try to influence the market by making things people don't care about, or don't need as something that is somehow the most important thing to them...even though it's really only important to MS itself for the industry to go in that particular direction.

MS "hate" is of their own doing. Not all the criticisms lobbed at them is warranted, but the hate aimed at them has been around long before Xbox existed, and it was only since Xbox came into existence that they had people who defended their questionable actions, and it's only the Xbox fan boys who do so. The fact that there is only a small group of people, in a community known to have extreme fan boys on all sides, should be a pretty good indication that the overall hate for MS....even outside the XBox realm....is not just a matter of console fan boys, and that MS has done things wrong or poorly at many points in their history.
