Wonder what MK8's attach rate is going to be.

mcstorm2560d ago

Looking like it will be close to the install base like Zelda. I wonder how many have/had the wiiu version and got this I know I'm one.

Nyxus2560d ago

I have the Wii U version but I haven't bought Deluxe yet, I'm planning to do so in the future but right now I'm still busy with Zelda.

mcstorm2559d ago

I'm still busy with Zelda but sold my wiiu version of mario kart so picked this one up to play with the family. Loving the changes in it to battle mode is also great.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2559d ago

I had the Wii U version, got the Switch version the portability factor on this device is 2nd to none.

RosweeSon2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

Me too it's a great game and to be able to play on the go 👍🏻 I will start Zelda soon 🤞🏻😉 got it day one but wasn't in a rush for new Zelda having done Skyward sword and couple of others in last year or 2 might save it for chrimbo.

gedden72559d ago

Not many.. I saw a stat that most people who have a switch didn't purchase a wiiu

mcstorm2559d ago

@gedden7 really I cant see that being right. Everyone I know who had/has a WiiU has a Switch.

Neonridr2559d ago

definitely have the Wii U version, although I never put in the amount of time I have already with my Switch version.

silkylove2559d ago

I double dipped as well. Couldn't resist.

Don't u have to pay for online?

mcstorm2558d ago

Not at the moment no its coming later on this year. It free until then.

XiNatsuDragnel2559d ago

Who says that exclusives don't dominate.are just silly.

Imalwaysright2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

On nintendo platforms its usually the exclusives that dominate. On the other 2 consoles its the multiplatform games that dominate.

Nyxus2559d ago

It doesn't help that some of the best selling multiplatform games aren't available on Nintendo systems, or not until much later and for a higher price than on the competing platforms.

_-EDMIX-_2559d ago

Pretty much.

They have a higher install base of several Platforms.

Doesn't help that the only games to purchase on Nintendo platforms that are actually even good are simply just Nintendo games.

I guess it's a situation that Nintendo doesn't mind too much. In doing so they've accepted to lose a significant amount of market share but I assume they have to have some sort of plan to fill out that Gap.

DAEMONIFEAR2559d ago

They don't so people thst think they do are retards

_-EDMIX-_2559d ago

Yeah but you would also have to consider that Nintendo is the only big publisher even making games on their own platform based on lack of other titles, that doesn't really apply all that much to Sony or Microsoft actually have a large amount of third-party or basically all the third-party support.

Nintendo's exclusives on their platforms will clearly generally sell higher because you're also talking about an install base that has to deeply rely on one publisher for any worthwhile content.

Literally the best games coming out for the switch this entire year are all published by Nintendo.

The same thing is debatable by Sony and Microsoft.

I'm sure lots will buy Crackdown 3 and lots like Horizon zero Dawn but it doesn't mean that shadow of war or Red Dead Redemption 2 or anything like that is going to be ignored this year.

So I'm sure anybody that made a comment about exclusive not dominating likely we're not talking about a Nintendo platform, I mean you're going to have to consider that those are the only games that are even worth purchasing on Nintendo platforms in the first place considering their lack of third party.

Nintendo doing really well this year

Gemmol2559d ago

I told someone in Another topic Zelda out pacing horizon....and its doing it every week now, i would not be surprise its ahead by 500k with less systems sold for nintendo

Nyxus2559d ago

The weird thing is, in the individual formats chart Horizon is at 5 and Zelda at 6, but in the combined chart Zelda charts above Horizon. It can't be the Wii U version, right? That one isn't even in the top 40 of the individual formats chart.

Gemmol2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

I was talking about the combined switch and wii u zelda out pacing horizon...........crazy part switch and wii u equal probably 15 million hardware and still out pacing a game on 60 million hardware

Movefasta19932559d ago

I got bashed for saying Zelda will have a higher metacritic score and sell more than horizon, even with the 50+ million PS4s in the world.

Razzer2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

Too much emphasis is put on install base here. Batman Arkham City shipped ONLY 6 million copies on 360 and PS3 despite those two platforms having nearly 150 million consoles sold. The vast majority of games do not sell over a million regardless of how large the install base is. The more games available for a system means the more sales will be spread out among the titles. Switch launched with Zelda and is the definition of system seller. Comparing Zelda sales to Horizon (new IP) doesn't make much sense to me.

_-EDMIX-_2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

It might not be in the top 40 but it likely sold just enough to put it above Horizon.

Also comparing install bases in regards to sales is actually kind of ridiculous and irrelevant if you consider Horizon zero Dawn is not going to keep selling the PlayStation 4 for the entire year when you have the possibility of God of War releasing as well as Destiny 2 Battlefront 2 and a bunch of other titles.

Right now because of the switch just releasing of course you're going to have an attached rate higher for something like Zelda on a platform that traditionally doesn't receive third-party games.

Whereas on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One it's receiving all the major third party games which means the competition is much more fierce.

It might be better for Nintendo if they're getting a ridiculous amount of software sales but as a consumer bragging about one game doesn't really mean Jack when your competitors are getting more games coming.

This is a situation where it makes more sense to Simply on both platforms.

Zelda having a higher attach rate simply has to do with most people purchasing that platform to only play one Publishers games if you're purchasing an Xbox or Playstation your purchasing it for a multitude of publishers.

That's because:

1. Zelda is the biggest franchise for Nintendo other than Mario, and there is almost nothing else to play that is exclusive on the system, so gamers are having to buy MK8 and Zelda, because there isn't anything else. While on other platforms there are plenty of games.
2. Zelda is an established franchise and has been around for decades, Horizon came out this year in March, from a developer that was known for FPS so it's a given that people would be wary.
3. The only thing Nintendo fans care about is Zelda and Mario, and Metroid. No other game, other than the odd casual fad, sells anywhere near as much as these games. If you compare this to Sony, they've got a wide range of franchises e.g. God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, inFamous, Horizon, Killzone, Gravity Rush, LittleBigPlanet, MLB The Show, Bloodborne, The Order, Tearaway, , and are continually investing in new games.

In summary, Zelda sells because, despite it being a good game, is mainly because there isn't much else to play. IT'S THE LAUNCH WINDOW! As an example, look at Resistance 1 sales on PS3, that's because it was a launch game and there was hardly anything to play.

_-EDMIX-_2559d ago

Agreed I mean Horizon zero Dawn is basically competing with Persona 5, Yakuza Zero, Ghost Recon wildlands, Nier, Mass Effect Andromeda to a degree etc

I would say it has a lot to do with the community on PlayStation and Xbox are more varied and diverse in regards to Gamers that play different games if you're purchasing a switch the chances are it's only to play something like Zelda based on the lack of anything else to play in the first place.

Anybody purchasing a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One literally could have dozens of reasons on why they're purchasing it in regards to games...

CaptainObvious8782559d ago

I don't know why nin fans are happy this full priced port is selling so well.

IIFloodyII2559d ago

The only 2 games to outsell Horizon in Q1 in the UK were Wildlands and GTA5, so congrats on being wrong I guess.

Gemmol2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

dude you do know the 1st quarter of the year is January, February, March right????

it do not count april sales and I assume you seen topics on here how Horzion was beating zelda in march right??? which goes along with the magazine you just show me so the numbers is correct up to March Horizon was winning

April, May and June is 2nd quarter.......and as of April since Nintendo double their shipment (theres an article on here talking about them doubling their shipment starting April if you want more proof)....but back to what I was saying.....as of April Zelda have been out pacing Horizon, while Horizon sold less, and right now Sony have a discount to help with slow sales............so congrats on not using your head before you post, I actually take that back I do not want to stoop to your level, I am just happy I can clear things up for you......have a great day

IIFloodyII2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

@Gemmol
In April they were both trading places each week and Horizon has constantly outsold it on the individual charts meaning they are both very close each week, I very much doubt BoTW did enough to overtake it, probably 4th now though. Also Horizon would have sold significantly better digitally than BoTW did too, acting like BoTW has unquestionably outsold it is just dumb.

And Sony had it on sale because it's 2 months old and unlike Nintendo understand how digital stores work, do you think Wildlands needed help when it went on sale for a weekend (like Horizon) 2 weeks after launch? It's currently the best selling game of the year and released after both HZD and BoTW, crazy that using your logic it's done that with slow sales the majority of the time.

Mario Kart 8 will do significantly better than both though, so you'll have that to brag about soon, that filthy new I.P won't stand a chance!!!

RosweeSon2559d ago

I'm pleasantly surprised by my own country for once but glad mario Kart has kept top spot I did grab Prey however Mario Kart selling well is great its not a massive shock tho it's an amazing game and apart from launch when I saw maybe 2-3 adverts for Zelda ever since it's been Mario Kart adverts literally for the last 5-6 weeks.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake29d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
