AMD VP says Fallout 4 VR will change the industry

It's no secret that Bethesda has been hard at work on a VR version of Fallout 4, but if their strategic partners at AMD are to be believed, it could be bigger, badder, and more important for VR as a whole than anything we've seen yet.

I love that they are implementing so many different ways of traveling. Can't wait!

Aenea2571d ago

And those ways of traveling are? 'cos I can't find them in the article or linked articles....

ji32002571d ago

I rid of my triple screens after i tried Dirt Rally VR at my friend's house. Dirt Rally is must for psvr owners. sense the real size of driving road and field of depth really gives immersion!!!!!!!!!

Aenea2571d ago

@the disagrees

Thorstein mentions something about them "implementing so many different ways of traveling" which I can't seem to find in the article, why disagree with a question?

--------

@ji3200

Wrong article or wrong post since this is about Fallout 4 VR, not about VR in general or racing games...

Ron_Danger2571d ago (Edited 2571d ago )

The last i heard they were using point-to-point teleporting (Batman VR or Mortal Blitz), not free movement (Resident evil 7 VR). In my opinion I think that point-to-point is not the right direction for FO4:VR.

Edit:
Here's a recent article:

https://uploadvr.com/fallou...

Hopefully they figure out full movement like RE7. I was terribly motion sick the first few times I played it, but Dramamine helped and now I can play any vr game fine.

thorstein2570d ago

I hadn't seen it in this article. I have just been reading every shred of copy about the Fallout 4 VR. Over the course of reading all of those, I learned that they are going to do point to point, free movement, possibly vehicles, and that you would be allowed to choose which method of movement you want to use.

I am a huge fan of free movement because it doesn't bother me at all. The only time I ever felt nauseous was after eating a pepperoni and sausage pizza, hot wings and guzzling down 3 beers when watching hockey, then putting on Eve Valkyrie and playing for a few hours.

i blame it more on the diet than the tech.

And as for the disagrees, welcome to N4G.

Too bad I may not get to see it in action. Maybe I will see it on someone else's headset. I am a huge Bethesda fan though and one of the few who really, really enjoyed Fallout4

Patriot4Life2571d ago

Love everything Fall Out but as long as the VR headsets have wires I won't be getting one any time soon.

I have some sort of OCD where I can't stand seeing wires in living room space.

thorstein2570d ago

I bought the charging stand and I put it on the shelf next to the TV so the wires are hidden behind the TV stand. The wires are only out when I am wearing the helmet (in which case I can't see them).

But I get you, I zip tie all wires because they MUST BE NEAT!!!

Patriot4Life2571d ago

Wow seems like you can't say anything negative about VR on here.

Number_92571d ago

The Hoard don't like it when you you critique VR

Uglyday2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

Or maybe it is because you can't see the wires when you have the headset on? Then you store it away like you should a multi hundred dollar contraption, OCD VR issues solved.

Patriot4Life2570d ago

Its not just about seeing them...the fact that they are in your way is annoying.

ApocalypseShadow2571d ago

Not really. It will help VR. Which is great. But it won't be the "Mario" of VR. What if you don't like games like fallout? What if, like me, you never bought a current Bethesda game because of their games being buggy and unfinished? Seeing as most gamers don't have a VR headset yet. The PR hype from AMD is just that:PR hype. Their wireless streaming they acquired is more Mario that fallout is.

Even if Horizon could be done in VR. As good as that game is, it wouldn't be for everybody. It would just be one game among other games and applications that help VR be successful. Perfect example is the PlayStation. Gamers keep looking for that one game that defines PlayStation. Be it GT, Ratchet, GOW, Uncharted, etc. But, not everyone plays each of those games. But those games together and the variety of games that speaks to Sony's fan base, is what makes the PlayStation brand great.

It's no longer like the old days where Mario, Sonic or Bonk were the mascots of a game system. Gaming has evolved beyond that to think one game is going to be the face of gaming or platform. Even Xbox has evolved. Halo was the face of Xbox. Now, it's the collection of games on the platform that makes Xbox what it is. *Personally*, it would be a Robotech/Macross game that would be *my* "Mario."
https://m.youtube.com/watch...
https://m.youtube.com/watch...
Or, an action RPG game based off of the 80's Dungeon's and Dragons cartoon where I can fight Venger and Tiamat.
https://m.youtube.com/watch...
But that doesn't represent everybody else.

Same will be for VR.It will be VR's multiple applications and multiple games and media content that will, together, make VR great.

Sm30002571d ago

You're biased towards bethesda so of course you wouldn't agree

freshslicepizza2571d ago (Edited 2571d ago )

he is preparing himself to be disappointed that it may not get psvr support. this game will take quite a bit of resources and psvr must work on the regular ps4.

this guy will at a snap of a finger change his whole tune about vr if there is a chance it's not being supported on psvr which is quite amazing given how much he loves vr and is always selling it to everyone. as long as psvr is included of course.

what he should be saying is this, awesome news, another high profile title giving recognition to vr and help push it forward by using mainstream titles that are sellers. what he also neglects to mention is fallout 4 sold over 7.5 million copies on the ps4 alone. so why is he now bashing the game and trying to quantify it as just a buggy mess of a game?

it really is embarassing how someone who thinks he is an ambassador for vr can flick a switch all because it may be part of an exclusive deal that may alienate psvr. the irony of course is he had no qualms at all about resident evil 7 being psvr timed exclusive and raves all the time about how big that title is.

_-EDMIX-_2571d ago (Edited 2571d ago )

Well I like Fallout 4 and Bethesda and I kinda agree.

Fallout 4 is no RE7. From what I've read about VR, lots of people like it yes, but it can over use its welcome pretty quickly. RE7 is the perfect amount of time for the feature, I just don't know if a 100 hour game is really the best use of that. I don't even know who is going to be playing 100 hours of Fallout 4 in 2017. I love the game, but I'm all Fallout 4'ed out lol

If it came to PSVR in terms of an update, I'd probably try it out if I had PSVR of course, but I wouldn't see me doing a whole new game using it.

@Moldy- Probably.

I don't really see the team spending that much time getting this to work on PSVR, but I also don't think this would be the best fit for it. Those would be some long gaming sessions with it.

Patriot4Life2571d ago

You sound like an intelligent individual but its hard to take you serious since most of the times you seem to be pro Sony and anti MS.

I agree with everything you said and it will take more than one game to make VR a standard when it comes to gaming.

VR is more immersive than playing on your TV but as it stands VR is best played in sessions of 2 hours at most. This year will make or break VR and going wireless is a most.

Athos2570d ago

For me I tire of using it fairly quickly. In fact I enjoyed RE7 more without the headset which was my deciding factor in selling it. I still have my Oculus, but it doesn't get a ton of use. I wanted VR all my life but IMO it isn't there yet. Poor resolutions, tracking issues, poor motion controls (PS4), screen door effect (Oculus), and wires everywhere left me short of impressed. Most I know that have it feel the same as I do, you get tired of it fairly quickly once the first impressions wear off. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't buy it.

ApocalypseShadow2571d ago (Edited 2571d ago )

I might lean towards Sony yes because of their policies and exclusives, but it doesn't change the facts.

Even if fallout 4 sold 7.5 million on PlayStation,52 million PS4 /PS4 Pro owners ***DIDN'T*** buy the game.

1.4 million on PC. But hundreds of millions **DIDN'T** buy it on PC.

4.8 million estimated on Xbox one. But 21 *estimated million Xbox one owners ***DIDN'T***.

While Mario included or not with Nintendo's console, almost sells 1 to 1 with a Nintendo system.

So, liking fallout or not, fallout is not the Mario game you're looking for for VR. You can want it to be, and think it will change the industry. But it won't. VR is about the whole, not one game that one group of gamers like.

Bigpappy2571d ago

@Shadow. There are no games like Mario except wii-sports for the wii and Zelda for the Switch of course. But Nintendo is so different, that causal would spend $300 to play just that 1 game.

But getting to the significance of Fallout4 VR. If that game get a lot of press talking about how impressive and immersive it is, how it must be seen to appreciate. Then the people who have VR and have played it come away blown away, do you not think that many other will buy a headset to try the experience for themselves?

You mentioned that 7.5mil fallout sales on PS4 alone isn't that impressive given the install base. But this is true of all games on PS4, even the beloved and worshipped EXCLUSIVES mostly fair much worst.

freshslicepizza2571d ago (Edited 2571d ago )

@Apocalypse Shadow
"Even if fallout 4 sold 7.5 million on PlayStation,52 million PS4 /PS4 Pro owners ***DIDN'T*** buy the game."

and less than 2 million ps4 owners bought psvr. that means more than 57.5 million ***DIDN'T***

vr needs as many flagship titles as it can get to go beyond being a niche product.

ApocalypseShadow2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

Pappy, how many gamers have a VR headset? Let's say 800 thousand Vive/oculus on PC. How many of those users will buy this game? Gamers are already saying VR is too expensive for them to buy. Fallout won't change that.

I'm not expecting fallout VR to be on PSVR. So that's 1 million or so gamers not playing it.

I mentioned 7.5 million fallout sales on PS4 because moldy always brings it up as if this figure matters. But, if I throw back at him the fact that 52 million PlayStation owners didn't buy fallout, he's nowhere to be found.

Fallout might be fun. But it's for a group of gamers who liked the original fallout on PC and it's sequels. While Mario is liked by everyone and their mom. To compare fallout to Mario is ridiculous because fallout is not in Mario's league.

I don't know this guy, but watch his video
https://m.youtube.com/watch...

He thinks along the same lines as I do. VR does overlap with gaming. But gamers are expecting to play the exact way they are currently playing games. Or the same games But, gaming has to be written for what VR can do. Fallout shoehorned to play in VR is not going to change the world. It will only for those who like fallout to begin with.

freshslicepizza2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

@Apocalypse Shadow
"Pappy, how many gamers have a VR headset? Let's say 800 thousand Vive/oculus on PC. How many of those users will buy this game? Gamers are already saying VR is too expensive for them to buy. Fallout won't change that."

its not just about how many will buy the game, its about using a title of fallout 4's pedigree to bring more attention to vr and expand that audience.

"I'm not expecting fallout VR to be on PSVR. So that's 1 million or so gamers not playing it."

which relates to my first comment and your desire now to act like fallout 4 is not really big news.

"I mentioned 7.5 million fallout sales on PS4 because moldy always brings it up as if this figure matters. But, if I throw back at him the fact that 52 million PlayStation owners didn't buy fallout, he's nowhere to be found."

really? is that why my comment was already there above as a response? my oh my how much you like to embellish things.

"Fallout might be fun. But it's for a group of gamers who liked the original fallout on PC and it's sequels. While Mario is liked by everyone and their mom. To compare fallout to Mario is ridiculous because fallout is not in Mario's league."

it is still a huge and successful franchise. how many of those do we currently have trying to bring attention to the masses for vr? the fallout franchise sold in the tens of millions and fallout 4 sold better than the last mario game. keep grasping at straws.

"He thinks along the same lines as I do. VR does overlap with gaming. But gamers are expecting to play the exact way they are currently playing games. Or the same games But, gaming has to be written for what VR can do. Fallout shoehorned to play in VR is not going to change the world. It will only for those who like fallout to begin with."

not many think the way you do because we all know you'd be happy if fallout 4 came to psvr. speaking of shoehorning vr, why are you so happy about dirt rally and the upcoming gt sport? those game still exist without vr added on but you seem to say positive things about those two games. oh that's right, they are both psvr supported. silly me.

How To Solve Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Performance Issue On OLED Steam Deck

Despite being verified for the Steam Deck, Fallout 4 has issues running on the OLED version of Valve's handheld device. Here's how it works.

Isn't this a better and easier work around?...

There is a partial workaround that adds the Fallout 4 launcher back  ;to the Steam Deck version of the game. Players need to add “SteamDeck=0 %command%” to Fallout 4’s launch options in the game’s settings on Steam Deck. But it’s wild and not great that players have to do this just to change visual settings while playing on Valve’s portable PC.

yup, worked for me a few hours ago

MrDead2d ago

This update on PC kills mods, they still didn't improve or fix the draw calls and if you have an RTX card the game still crashes unless you turn off debris.
So if you mod the game it now looks worse, plays worse, all of your saves are broken and the game breaking bugs are still present.

Good work detective

Bethesda strikes again, always thought their games were a tad boring anyway, this was even before Microsoft brought them. Used to quake 3 team arena to death, on an old pc, at the time it was new, fresh, fast paced and innovative, their games these days, are none-of-the-above

Michiel19891d 18h ago

Ever heard of a game called Doom or Wolfenstein, detective?
Also quake 3 arena was made by ID, which at the time wasn't part of Bethesda.

Profchaos1d 21h ago

Yeah I've had friends rebuy the game because the ps plus didn't work and they used to own the last gen version sold off the physical after the PS plus pack included fallout when they got the ps5.

So overall I know ms has likely warned quote a bit from this error.

Barlos1d 14h ago

This game hasn't aged well. I was really looking forward to the update, but I'm just not enjoying it. I never did get on with the settlement building and raiders, and I still don't. I won't be going back to this now.

mkis0071d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Settlement stuff was way undercooked. Too many settlements and QOL updates are needed, and can only be added by mods...which disable achievements. The game does 2 things better than past games: Gunplay and scavenging.

Profchaos1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

Have to agree settlement stuff was boring and dull but I loved the game outside of that still do. But next to other games is it's era like witcher 3 it always felt a little stuck in the mid 2000s

anast1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

They aren't really missing much. I've been playing it for awhile and it's just a polished turd. Low effort, hyped up like a full release.
