MGSV was the same, it even happened to me. At first I thought it was fantastic but the more I played week after week I started to see the problems.

I think some reviewers were just scared the same shit that happened with the Gamespot Skyward Sword 7.5 review would happen again. I mean Jim Sterling just got a DDoS attack over his review and 7 is still a decent score.

A big problem for the guy was the weapon sway in the guns despite the fact you upgraded them in the game...they were old, used weapons from the old world of course they needed repaired

Agree 100%. This campaign against Zelda and the integrity of reviewers is akin to what happened to Overwatch when it won GOTY at the game awards last year and all because it beat Uncharted 4 for it. Strange how 10's were given out to TLG despites it's design issues and yet it was hailed by some as a master piece. Hardly anyone saw the controversy or complained as hard as some are here doing right now for Zelda.

I remember giving one in a comments section for the first Gears of War. Gears of War existed in a genre that I wasn't terribly fond of(action shooter, later to morph into cover shooter), and had the dudebro space marine motif that i really dislike. I wasn't even a huge fan of Epic games or Unreal tournament.

But despite that, after playing it, was more than capable of looking at the game on it's technical merits, and putting myself into the shoes of it's intended audience. I was capable of looking at it's flaws, and discussing said flaws as well as putting those flaws into context of the overall experience.

Now, I enjoyed the game enough to complete it. But i wouldn't say it was my favorite game of all time. Good game, and a technical masterpiece for it's time. As a personal score, I'd give it a 7, because I found it fun enough, but didn't care for the motif or the story. Game play was solid as they come though. On an object scale though, I'd give it a 9, because I recognized how someone who is into those kind of games would likely enjoy such things.

So this idea that reviews are just subject opinions is flawed, and it needs to stop being used. Instead of dismissing review scores that you don't agree with as one persons opinion, demand better ethics and consistency in reviews overall. The idea of a review is that subjective analysis is based on objective review. If the reviewer doesn't get the objective part right, then the subjective part is just an opinion piece, not a review.

Bottom line, if one really cares about one person's opinion that much, they need help. Reviews aren't there to validate the writer, they're there to serve the readers interest. They stopped doing that in the internet age.

You are right, it's not clickbait. I've been reading gamer.no's reviews for years and they use the 1-10 scale as it should be used. A 5 is considered a average game while a 6 is a good game but with some flaws. The score gamer gives is usually a point or two lower than what another site with the same opinion would give.

When reviewers say that they has heavy framedrops, don't like the new breaking system for weapons and dismiss all the problems to say hey it's a Zelda game let's give it a perfect score, than yes, it's diased. I'm assuming that 10 score means out of just Nintendo games. For once I would love to start seeing unbiased reviews of games, but I guess this is the best you can get from hack sites.

Haven't even clicked the article and saw "along with polish that you just don't see much of anymore". Really? Optimization issues? Open world with major pop ins, frame drops with 30 fps (MAX) and that's using non-photorealistic art style...awesome in 2007.

I love the game with at least 40 hours in it, but I am no Loyal-Branding Warrior. I own all consoles, but do most of my gaming on a PC where it's suppose to be. Tons of content and loving every minute of it and would give it a solid 8/10, but that's mostly due to the fact with optimization issues and because the game is not ground breaking in terms of innovation. Been there, done that before, another new adventure. Maybe it's new for a Zelda game or even for Nintendo, but not new for the gaming world.

Can't wait for the sequel of Fable: Breath of the Wild to come out for the Switch U in 6-7 years! I joke, but anyone older than 10 knows this is the spiritual successor to Fable in the Zelda universe.

I apologize in advanced for hurt feelings, sometimes the truth hurts, but if you enjoy the game that's what matters most. Worth the buy!

I have been seeing that comparison a lot. I am assuming you mean Primal, which I found to be the worst of the Far Cry games. Far Cry is more of an Open World FPS and basically only compares with the open world tag and mountains.

I have also seen Witcher 3 comparisons, but they couldn't be any more different. Where as they are both open world, tons of content and 3rd person perspective that is where the comparisons end. Witcher 3 has an abundance of RPG elements that BotW lack greatly.

Why Fable? I am not trying to say one did something before the other, but the Fable influence is there. The story backdrop Hyrule/Albion, the towns/shops element, combat and camera control, even how Zelda picks up a Cucco and runs is similar to picking up a chicken. There really is a lot. It took me about 15-20 hours to pinpoint why Zelda felt so familiar, but then it hit me. It is a modern day Fable. Zelda did do an incredible job with the vertical gameplay though.

EDIT: Even the maps are similar.

No I mean Far Cry/Ubi open world games, yes there are other influences but to me it carries the hallmarks of Ubi style open world games. 50 ish hours on BotW, I would say that the chicken picking up etc. is from Ocarina as that predated Fable by quite a bit.

I assumed when you said Far Cry you were focusing on "region towers" and saying Ubisoft games just confirmed that. Yes, BotW does use that open up sections of the map. Besides that, there is nothing else in any of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and especially nothing in the Division or Wildlands that would even put them in the same genre of games.

You do realize Far Cry is an Open World First-Person Shooter? That's like comparing the new Mario with Crysis or GTAV. As for "region towers", that is just a design choice Ubisoft implemented in their in house game engine, which is why you see most of their games utilize that mechanic.

Games similar to Zelda...Bastion, Kameo, Beyond Good & Evil, Shadow of the Colossus. Other than Beyond Good & Evil, you will never see an Ubisoft game compared to it because they don't develop games in the same genre class.

Technically speaking, if a reviewer gives their score and explains how they reached it (and they aren't just complaining or showing signs of ineptitude) then I think, as long as the game is working, a score from 6-10 shouldn't receive an outcry. Outbursts happen far to quickly now when there's a score that doesn't follow the trend.

We've seen obvious clickbait scores here and there. But now people are using the term, whenever they see a score they just can't agree with.

If you love a game, that's wonderful. But even games we love have their faults. For some people those faults stand out more, lowering their enjoyment or, breaking their emersion.

For example, I was addicted to FF15. Still love it, but would I give it a 10/10? No. I'd give it a 7.5/10. For others who don't love it, they'd probably look at the same issues and give it a lower score. That applies to every game, including the fabled and loved franchise we know as The Legend of Zelda.

As long as the review has concise reasoning, and has a clear indication of how they reached their score (As best as possible) then, the outbursts are just childish. It shouldn't diminish your own enjoyment of the purchase/game.

We can easily dismiss the scores as outliers, but, as I mentioned above, we would be better off without scores and simply address pros, cons, and do you recommend the game.

As far as comments go, it's ridiculous to see the reactions to these types of reviews when it's quite apparent that the "finally, an honest review" people very likely haven't even played it. The Wii U didn't sell well and Switch, with its limited quantities, is hard to come by (not to mention that many people on this site were pretty vocal in being disinterested in it). How are those people experiencing a game they haven't played for themselves? I'm sure you'll get a lot of "I have a friend/relative" reasons. The review itself, finetc. Reason that how you will. I don't think the game deserved anything below an 8.5 because, personally, it's amazing. If they can back up their reasoning in an official review, okay. Again though, there are far too many people who can't just admit the game doesn't look appealing to them and admit they never played it. That's fine. But to say, "yes, I agree with this low score because I've been vocal in my opposition of Nintendo and don't own one, but for the sake of this comment, I magically own one now and say this review is amazing." It's silly.

I understand what you are saying and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I didn't like Bioshock but I know it was a good game, the quality was there but it did not appeal to me.

My issue is more with this site and their obsession with hating on Zelda when a large majority have probably never even spent 5 minutes with the game. So many people are claiming "paid reviews" and that the game receives a bump in score because of the title "Zelda". Why the blind Nintendo/Zelda hate? I don't get it and I never will, and to a point it's become absolutely childish.

I played a few hours of Skyward Sword and did not find it enjoyable, so I moved on. It seems as though uttering any positive word about Zelda is met with massive backlash, and for what reason? People are enjoying a game that helped revolutionize the industry 30 years ago. Obviously there is a special place in most people's hearts with Zelda, and that isn't because the game is trash. It's because the franchise has produced so many quality games and great memories, and BotW is another amazing addition to the franchise.

Breath of the wild is only in fourth place when it comes to the highest-rated games of all time now. Pffft, goes to show how bad the game really is. As a sony fanboy it makes me extremely happy to see that almost 5% of all Zelda reviews are below the score 9/10, as i'm extremely insecure about my PS4 game Horizon, and how Zelda is in a completely different league compared to it.

No, it's more because every single article posted on here that reviews Zelda positively gets flamed, and every single negative one people jump for joy. It's all perspective but 7 is pretty ridiculous. I would give it a 9 and when the frame rates act out of whack I'd drop it to a 8.5. Eliminate the fact it's a "Zelda" game would these outlandish scores still exist. I just feel some people go into games in general with a bias view. This game easily will still be playable months from now without any help of DLC, that says a whole lot. Yes it isn't revolutionary but it's a damn good take on a game where so many people got to the point where the same of the same became an issue, Nintendo answered back with this game and took it to a whole new level and route. I honestly never had an issue with past Zelda's and the so called "milking" of the game, the journeys were all unique. On the other hand something like uncharted is easily milked, rinse and repeat formula completely blows deku nuts. I agree. All Zelda games have been unique. They dont try to fit all sorts of things into their games and instead focus of fun gameplay mechanics. And a concise clear narrative with little complication.

As far as uncharted. I thought the first and second were great. Definitely boosted story telling in gaming. The last 2 were just repetitions of the previous ones with much of the same dialogue too.

Zelda has mostly always been a perfect game in my opinion. I cant find much inherently wrong with them. Is the gameplay bad? Dialogue? Music? Graphics? No...all good.

Yea they do try there best to have each iteration unique to its self. One of the main reasons Wind Waker is my favorite one, completely broke the mold, from exploration graphics and the way the story made each character feel important. I also loved the relationship Ganon played with the others, he spoke, it felt personal, he just wasn't some unknown figure you have to wait to the end to meet. Definitely the cream of crop in my opinion. Honestly the only gripe I have with Zelda games is the arch they play on, "save the princess" not to sound like a broken record and go back to wind waker but man it had a Zelda who was spunky, independent and it was bad ass seeing her help you in the end and landing that final blow ‼️Epic‼️. Zelda could definitely succeed without that notion of saving her. I definitely see the next Zelda game switching it up, Zelda being more of a wisdom figure not so. Ugh damsel in distress and you face off a new villain

Gives 6 to a game for not being revolutionary when it wasn't trying to be. Gives 9 to a set piece simulator thoroughly stuck in modern gaming's tropes. Convinced graphics over substance is the way to go. I get it. The Switch is something of a let down on a lot of ends, Zelda on the other hand was a perfectly fine game. Just a quick summary on positives and negatives from this review:

Positive:
- Very good first impression
- Massive, mysticque world
- Enjoyable main-story (biggest positive)
- Compares BotW with games like Jak and Daxter: Precursors Legacy (world), Shadow of the Colossus (monsters) and Dark Souls (some enemies hit hard).
- Many small touches like using Link's shield as a snowboard, attaching bombs to balloons and sending them into enemy territory and using huge leafs to give the boat speed.
- Enemies react differently. Some run away in fear for example.
- Climbing feels very good
- Dynamic weather

Negatives:
- Combat is alright but feels too heavy and unpredictable. Its very much like the combat system Ocarina of Time uses with a few new additions, but with other games like Dark Souls out there where you can doge attacks with ease, BotW feels sluggish in comparison.
- Big and beautiful world with areas who feel soul-less. Barren places with nothing to do but either walk for a long period of time on horseback or on foot. He compares the world to other games like The Witcher 3 where you always have things to do and attend to, with a much more beautiful scenery when traveling.
- Starting to feel boring after a while with too much repetition.
- Charming artstyle and graphics; but almost noen-existent aliasing and 900p resolution makes the picture quality feel washed out. Far behind other open world games we have today.
- World NPCs were exciting first time meeting them, until he realized they dont offer anything interesting, with no character building and little interesting to say, walking in the same pattern over and over again.
- Horse riding feels old and clunky which is not good considering you'll be riding that horse for many hours during the game.
- Climate changes is cool, but the novelety wears off quickly. And with little to nothing interesting to do it doesn't offer anything enjoyable.
- Huge framerate dips makes the game less enjoyable.

The reviewer is entitled to put whatever number they want on the game, but it seems to me like its become popular at the moment to give click-bait-worthy low reviews that the game is clearly not deserving of. 6/10 is what I think when Ubisoft pops into my head, not the grandest, largest scale development effort Nintendo has ever produced. This guy wanted to get clicks and the best way to do so was to write a bad review for a game that is going to be game of the year no doubt. Every other reviewer played more than 50 hours and didn't see the same problems. I have played the game plenty and didn't see the same issues at all. Complaining about graphics and antialiasing when the 900p was easily sharp enough for my 50 inch tv, was very immature for some one who is supposed to be a gamer. Empty lands were not problem in skyrim and witcher for him due to nice graphics but were for Zelda, considering that this had less emptines than those two Not to forget that this one has moving enemies that might not be in the same place all the time, this game has people with daily routines moving from place to place etc with npc's getting into fights against monsters accidentally in random moments or tons of dynamic incidences can make the fight or gameplay situation completely different to each player in same circumstances. This is the most revolutionary game I have seen in years even if one might not like it. This is a trolling review nothing more. Open world games are not the same again and games like witcher and horizon feel clumsy now in their gameplay department and their sequels might leanr a thing or two from zelda or they won't be able to keep innovating anything.

No game will get a perfect score from EVERY reviewer. A review is just an opinion. Not everyone will agree on someone's opinion of a game. I'm a little over 15 hours in and I'd give the game a perfect score as I am having fun and it has managed to keep me playing beyond 4 hours.

What amazes me is sites getting DDOSed for not giving a perfect score or sites that give perfect scores being accused of being paid. If you love the game, great. If you don't, great. It really doesn't matter if someone you never met online gives it a 10/10 or a 6/10. If you're enjoying the game, keep at it. If not, go onto the next game.

What people consider an average good game 7-8 should actually be 5-7. 5 being what is considered a 7.
