Sure, we have some good exceptions such as Resident Evil VII, The Evil Within 2, and Detention, but we’re also getting a ton of games completely plagued with lots and lots of frustrating horror game clichés."
Ugh, too many walking sim jump scare games lately. Hence why I really didn't enjoy Until Dawn. Not only was it bad jump scares, but the butterfly effect thing was pointless. All that changes is who runs out the front door at the end.
How about turning them into action shooters with tons of ammo at your disposal and your character an unstoppable bullet magnet...
"Vaccine fails to be competent as a rogue-lite as well. Nothing carries over upon death. The randomized manor never really changes significantly. The rooms, weapons and enemies you’ll find remain the same on each run. Each failed run feels like a waste of time. Luckily, most end well before the game’s allotted 30 minute time limit thanks to the unfair difficulty. But even with the short runs there’s not a lot to make you want to come back."
