It really seems like such an odd decision of Nintendo to not have direct connection of the joycons when they are clicked onto the switch. They obviously make an electrical connection, because you have to have them connected in order to charge but it's a shame they did not make it where when the joycons are attached, the wireless is turned off and you have direct connection.

Another missed opportunity is that regardless of being connected to the switch... the batteries in the joycon do not add power to the switch like you would think other devices do when you link them together. So the joycons being attached, they all still drain power individually instead of create one pool of power for all three to use collectively.

Another fix for the wireless issue was if nintendo had not put the receiver inside the metal shielding of the unit. Most any other device that has any sort of wireless receiver has it positioned just outside of any sort of shielding inside the unit.

yeah I am with you there on why there wasn't a physical connection made. All they would have needed was some metal connector pins on the inside to come into contact with each other.

Seems strange. I wouldn't worry about joy cons running out of juice though. Those things can hold quite the charge..

I figured they held a pretty good charge but why didnt they make it where all the batteries combine power overall? If they all need to be connected to charge together then they could have been made to discharge together instead of the switch running out of power before the joycons do.

Seems like such a simple design to make it where the power in the joycon batteries adds to the power of the switch to give it a bit of extra time to play on the go.

@darthv72 - yeah agree with you there.. they could have pooled everything together to give you some extra juice, no doubt.

I like the idea of using the joycon's batteries to power Switch, but I think the decision was made for practicality/usability reasons.

The biggest issue being that how much more will those batteries give you playtime vs should that be reserved for the several hours you want to/could use the joycons? DS4's battery was 1000 mAh IIRC so thats probably around the same ballpark as Switches Joycons.

My phone has a 3200 mAh battery, which should be comparable to or lesser than Switches. Since the chip is considerably beefier than my phones, lets say Switch has a 4000 mAh battery.

Now, if you can get that 3 hours with 4000, an additional 1000 only increases the playtime by 40 minutes or so if all conditions are ideal.

Next you gotta see if you have a method of charging the Switch through Joycons efficiently enough with minimal transfer loss. For example, my external 10 400 mAh battery can only charge my phone barely (3 200 mAh) twice at the charge rate of 2 Ah, and almost 3 with the slower 1Ah. My smaller emergency 2 500 mAh charger manages only a 35-40% charge of my phone.

I do think that the option should be there, but a small 2 500 mAh battery pack could provide more with the downside of having one cable tethered to your machine. 2 500 mAh packs cost often like 5-10€ from my experience, so its fairly cost effective too, if its just compatible with the Switch.

I thought this was going to be a satirical article that told me to move to the desert or something.

Have to reset your console after doing other things... What a great fix.

Fire Emblem: The Three Houses Review - Analog Stick Gaming

"When Three Houses was announced for the Nintendo Switch, I was more hyped for this than almost any game currently available on the platform. While its story doesn’t quite live up to the previous entries I’ve enjoyed, mostly due to some poorly handled reveals and its failure to offer us up a compelling villain, Three Houses succeeds greatly due to its vast replayability with new game plus, and yet another memorable cast to add to the franchise.
